PINK GOES RED FOR HEART HEALTH
February 7, 2020

It’s been our long tradition to don the colors pink and
green, but on National Wear Red Day®, Friday, February
7, 2020 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Epsilon Sigma
Omega Chapter sorors will join millions of Americans in

the fight against heart disease in women by wearing
RED!

Heart disease is still the No. 1 killer of women, taking the
life of one in three women each year, and this is

especially important for African American women, who
are increased risk due to factors such as high blood
pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and diabetes.

February Hodegos Report

February, the second month of the year is affectionately known as
the month of LOVE. Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14th) is the number 1 day
celebrating romance and LOVE, and dates back to the 14th century!

As African Americans, we also celebrate OUR history in February,
which dates back to the late 19th century. (because it coincided with
Frederick Douglass’s birthday on the 14th) Black history month, which

began as a week and later became a monthlong celebration, was
finally recognized and accepted in the mid 1970’s. And in recent
years, February has also become synonymous with Heart Health.
Which is the perfect time to learn about heart disease which impacts

AA women disproportionately.

February is a special month! Whether you are
celebrating LOVE, our history, Or OUR health...

February means to Purify And what better time is there
to purify out hearts towards one another?

Love yourself, Love others…
Did you know? Those born in February tend to be outgoing, witty, and

intelligent...Known as peace makers, they also enjoy spreading

Let’s celebrate and wish a very Happy Birthday to our Sorors born during
the month of February.
