Salute to JOHN WOOD
a great unsung hero,
volunteer, designer & producer

Thank you for your unwavering dedication, amazing talent and

endless hard work on 20 Years of Pines Party Events and Creative Tents!

DJ ABEL: Born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised

in Miami, Florida, Abel Aguilera has always had a
passion for House music. His production and remixing
team, Rosabel, continues to churn out #1 Billboard dance
hits including their Grammy Award Nominated remix of
Rihanna’s “Only Girl in the World”, ”Wepa” by Gloria Estefan
“Papi” by Jennifer Lopez, Madonna’s “Bitch Im’ Maddonna
with Nicki Menage, and the insanely huge anthem “Chacha
Heels” by Rosabel featuring Jeanie Tracy. The team has
also worked with the likes of Donna Summer, Janet
Jackson, and who could forget their remix of Cher’s
“Different Kind of Love” and so many others.

THE SCUMFROG: The Dutch/American artist

The Scumfrog has been a household name in the
underground Dance Music scene since 2000. His brand is
known for many traits; music production, musicianship,
DJing, featured vocalist, music coach, radio host, and
remixing.

From his timeless early works like Watersong and We
Love You, to dubbed-out remixes of songs by mainstream
artists like Kylie Minogue, Annie Lennox, Missy Elliott, to
collaborations with David Bowie, Sting, and Cyndi Lauper
(resulting in a Grammy nomination), he has been featured
on virtually every prominent independent Dance label,
from Bedrock to 1605, from Positiva to Knee Deep In
Sound.

Jeff Hall: I am thrilled to be asked back for my 7th

year as the opening DJ for the Pines Party. For me, the
Pines Party, and the Friday night VIP Party in particular,
have always felt like a community block party. There’s
a sense of shared experience here in the Pines that knits
the community together in ways that not many other
communities can relate to. And that makes this event and
all of the people who make it possible something very
special. I’ll be opening this year’s VIP Party with a deep and
welcoming soulful vibe and then handing over the decks
to DJ Aaron Aanenson who has already proven himself
to be a crowd favorite here in the Pines and elsewhere.
See you on the dance floor!

Aaron Aanenson: Aaron’s love affair with house

music began at an early age in the 90s after being
introduced to electronic dance music by the local radio
station where he grew up. At 18 Aaron moved to New York
City to pursue an education in technology. During that
time he experienced New York nightlife, starting in 2006
at Peter Rauhofer’s WORK! party. His appreciation for
all forms of electronic music influence his music style,
which is intended to move audiences along an emotion-
laid journey.

Time Travel - Pines Party 20th Anniversary

“ If you want to be invited to the party – throw the party yourself. “
The Pines continues to provide this profound wisdom, a foundational ethos, for the queer
community. Before my first visit to the Pines in 1972, I heard tales of myriad themed parties
thrown by individuals or houses each summer.
In 1973, the first summer I had a share, the Pines Pantry sold out of red Ritts dye the weekend
of the PINK party. Later that summer, for the Egyptian party, one reveler arrived in a Pharaoh’s
Sarcophagus shipped over from a costume house in New York. Slave boys came in a minimal
amount of white cotton and a bit of black eyeliner. Summer after summer these private

nightlong dance parties escalated. They just felt so
damn good – so right for us.
At Just a Party in 1978, Charles de’ Rohan invited
the whole island was invited to his home where
a dance floor bridged the pool and his garden
became a private meat rack. We danced all starlit
night with hundreds of our brothers and lovers –
surrounded by glistening bodies – vision augmented
perhaps (most likely). When we looked around
ourselves we saw the world was gorgeous - as we
knew it could be – must be. We came from a sick
world where our lives and joy were frowned upon
while the frowners were – still are - mired in the
miasma of their warrior, racist, and misogynistic
cultures. We invented an alternate – better -
reality.
And then we were plunged into monumental grief.
AIDS. We applied what we’d learned on the dance
floor to our current circumstances. We confronted
the plague by becoming our own caregivers. We
formed our own organizations to feed, shelter, educate and love one another. Our parties
became fundraisers to fuel these efforts.
The Pines Party continues the tradition of ritual celebrations tasked with funding the welfare of
our community. The party began one Arabian Night 20 years ago. And now, we celebrate the
survival of the tradition and dance with friends present as well as those past, who we keep in our
hearts. This is how we Time Travel.
