patient safety especially for the geriatric community while adhering to hospital policy and
procedures.

Course Overview: This ten-week online course is presented with a descriptive course outline
highlighting each topic. This program will utilize lecture, Prezi presentations, discussion boards,
You Tube videos, and Wiki responses.

Course Objectives: At the completion of this lecture, the new employee will be able to:

Teaching and Learning: Lecture, You Tube videos, Prezi presentations, discussion boards,
Wiki responses, self-reflection, evaluation, grading and follow up information.

I look forward to presenting an adult learner-centered program. Throughout the program, the
learner will be introduced to pertinent information throughout the course; lecture, utilizing Prezi
presentations, You Tube video, discussion boards, and Wiki responses. The learner will have the
opportunity to visualize different types of videos and presentations to increase their knowledge
of the geriatric surgical patient during the preoperative and perioperative period. After the
course, a measurement will be given to the learner with feedback from the instructor to evaluate
the effectiveness of the course and the ability to increase knowledge in this important area.

Grading:
Discussion Board: Total points awarded will be 10 points for each discussion board for a total
of 50 points. Points will be deducted if learner does not respond to at least two other learners
and make one response to another learner who responded to them.

Wiki: Learner must post one response to each Wiki. Total points awarded will be 10 points for
each discussion board for a total of 50 points. Wiki #5 will be graded; one point for each
arrhythmia identified correctly.

Participation and Attendance: 7.5 CEU credits will be awarded at the end of the course after
discussion board and Wiki responses are evaluated and graded.
