“Not one of us can rest, be happy, be at home,
be at peace with ourselves, until we end hatred
and division.”
From the desk of the
Director-Principal - Ms. Anita Malhotra
Advancing peace education within a formal school context
requires a multifaceted approach. The ethos of LVIS fosters
healthy relationships and a peaceful school culture taking
account of the way education is delivered within and beyond the
four walls of the classroom.
In the words of the world's most iconic figure of peace, the Dalai
Lama, 'Only through compassion and inner peace can one spread peace in the world.
'Inner peace leads to a peaceful individual who can in turn build a peaceful family, a
peaceful community and hence a peaceful world.
I applaud the continuous efforts of the team of learners who ensure each edition is
better than the previous one. The theme of the magazine, 'Celebrating PEACE' is well
thought of and beautifully projected!
Let us find that inner peace by being compassionate with ourselves when we fail to
deliver results or when the impact that we are looking for, seems to be taking a bit
longer to come to fruition. Let us model kindness and empathy, appreciating the unique
strengths and needs of each member of our school community.
Let us model kindness and empathy, appreciating the unique strengths and
needs of each member of our school community!

“When you make peace with yourself, you make
peace with the world.”
What is feminism?
Feminism means to establish political, economic, cultural, and social
equality for all. But did you know that many people still don’t know
what feminism is? When the word feminism is brought up in a
conversation some people can think about is a bunch of angry
women. But that isn’t what it is; Feminism means that no matter what
your gender is you will be given an opportunity to showcase your
talent. It is not about pushing other people down to get to your goal.
I feel it is about respecting everyone no matter their gender, caste,
creed, religion, race, cultural background, or economic status and
giving them all a fair chance. Psuedo feminism has damaged true
feminism’s meaning. As it relates to women being superior and
everyone else including men being inferior. True feminism is nothing
about that. I feel feminism is about equality. I am aware that we lived
and still live in a patriarchal society but it isn’t 1965 any more women
have started rais
ing their voices and now it is your duty to listen to
those voices. And the good thing is that it isn’t just women people
belonging to all communities have now started raising their voices.
Now it is your responsibility to listen to them.
In totality feminism means to establish political, economic, cultural,
and social equality for all.

“I took a deep breath and listened to the old
bray of my heart. I am. I am. I am.”
STORY OF A STREET HAWKER
Born in an impoverished neighbourhood of UP, my father used to do menial jobs, and my
mother was a maid. We figuratively had a hand to mouth existence. As a gawky nine year old
with stars in my eyes, I started by polishing shoes to pitch in financially. Once, I was
lounging in the backyard of our tiny shabby hut, when my father barged in to announce that
our uncle would be visiting us soon.
When he arrived, seeing us in such penury, he felt miserable. He offered to take me to
Gurgaon and take care of my needs and education. My father, who was struggling to make
ends meet, agreed immediately. The next day I left with my uncle, for Gurgaon.
My uncle and aunt were a childless couple and they showered me with a lot of love. Never
once did I feel homesick and every day, at the crack of dawn, he used to sell vegetables on
his cart in the market. Selling vegetables is a Herculean task because the produce bought has
to be sold on the same day or else, the vegetables get spoilt. My uncle was an honest man
who believed in quality. The customers really trusted him and flocked to buy fruits and
vegetables from him.
This continued for days on end and our uncle provided us with all the money for food and for
my education. I was indebted to my uncle as he was helping me to fulfill my dream of
studying and making it big in life. In fact, I was also obligated and used to accompany my
uncle every day in the morning.
On one such trip with my uncle when we were busy selling our vegetables, suddenly we saw
a bunch of policemen come to our vegetable cart. They roughed up my uncle. One of the
customers had made a complaint that my uncle had stolen his gold chain. He had lost it the
previous day and he felt that my uncle had taken it. The police interrogated my uncle and
dragged him to the police station. I was at my wit’s end! I was flummoxed. By some means I
sold the day's stock and took the cart home and narrated the harrowing incident to my aunt.
She started wailing inconsolably. I somehow mustered up courage and went to the police
station where my uncle was detained. There I saw him, with handcuffs and being spoken to
with utter disdain. My uncle was pleading and trying to prove his innocence in vain. The
policemen refused to believe him. Suddenly, a person walked in . This was the same person
who had lodged the complaint.

Oh Peace! You double edged ©Lotus Valley International School, Gurugram
sword
Till when shall I yearn for your
reward,
As I walked on the blood
drenched pavement
I wept tears of
disheartenment;
Why must you be fingertips
away?
Yet light years away in your
own way,
From the worshippers of
Eirene
To the people gathered in
Dionysus’ Skene,
All await your reckoning,
Yet you keep them waiting.
What for I shan’t understand
But in your service I shall
stand,
Oh Peace! You double edged
sword
How dearly I await your global
reward.

Depression is truly the illness of life
One that chops your confidence into pieces,
it is that deadly knife It’s the small pox of the youth
Depression is today’s sad truth
I had an exam today and I missed it due to stress
Now it seems as if my life is a mess
What shall I do about it, I am in a fix
Shall I sob about it all day or forget and have a Twix?
Stress is the poison that needs to be discarded
Ones who stay optimistic will surely be rewarded
I gotta take it out before it traps me
From this instant, the bright side is where I’ll see
Life’s much better without any woe
The light of success will surely glow
Let’s rise because life is short
Live it KING-SIZE, attain what you sought
I have stepped out of the darkness, doing what I do
Others who saw me promptly said me too
Let’s inspire others to give up depression
Cause it’s the only way to achieve eternal salvation
The small pox of the youth has now been eradicated
Life and success have come together and mated
Depression is no more the problem of the youth
Optimism is today’s TRIUMPHANT truth
