PART V – FINAL GRACE

With Colors Extended;
21 Guns Sounded;

Taps in the Background,
Your surviving Brothers Salute You.

Day is done,
Gone the sun
From the lakes
From the hills
From the sky.
All is well!
Safely rest.
God is nigh.

ODE TO KOREAN VETS

In a far off corner of the world;
Oft called "The Land of the Morning Calm”

A place they called "Korea"
We dedicate this psalm.

It was called America’s forgotten war;
A "Police Action” if you will

But there thousands of men fought and died,
And many remain there still.

To those who served, and for those who died,
Obeying their duty call.

Take now your rightful honored place.
Be proud, and stand up tall.

For the blood and sweat, and tears we shed,
Our memories now unfold;

No longer dwell just within ourselves,
For now our story’s told.

On this hallowed ground, we set our mark,
Among the others who have served

And ask God’s blessing, that this place,
May always be preserved.

Forever carved upon this stone,
Are those who gave their all;
And forever they are entered,
Into America’s honored hall.

As to us who remain until the last,
Our duty has not ended;

'Til all who serve in far off lands,
Are rightfully commended.

So stand up tall you "Korean Vets”
For you have come so far.

Stand up and take your honored place,
For they know now who you are.

U.S. ARMY, KOREA 1951-52

PART VI - ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

A tip of the hat to all who generously contributed to the research.

Acknowledgements

The gathering of the names of our Fallen Brothers and the details of their demise came
from several helpful sources:

• In the early months of 2000 a team of volunteers from the Korean War Veterans
of Lycoming County perused the micro-film collection of the James V. Brown
Library. This team- Wilbur Emig, Robert Dauber and William Witmer, Fred
Schaefer-spent countless hours searching the obituaries that appeared in the local
papers. Copies were made of the targeted obituaries and the names became the
basis for the muster roll of the monument. These copies were preserved through
the years by Robert Dauber, KWV, and thus was not only an excellent start but
they also provided necessary details.

• Several web sites on the Internet were a valuable source in confirming and adding
to the information uncovered and should be recognized:

- Korean War Project, www.koreanwar.org

- AII POW-MIA, Korean War Casualties, www.aiipowmia.com/koreacw

- The National Archives, www.archives.gov/research/korean-war/casualty-
list

• Joan C. Blank, Administrative Specialist, Lycoming County Office of
Veterans Affairs, Donald L. Cohick, Director

• Interviews with relatives, friends and veteran offices.

The article titled “ The Monument and Memories” by Wilbur M. Emig and the poem
“Ode to Korean Vets” by Galen W. Seaman were reprinted from the “50th Anniversary of
the Korean War, June 25, 2000” program booklet with the permission of the authors.

The genesis of the, Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County, Inc., occurred in 1998 by
the combined talents and efforts of five Korean War veterans: Wm. Kast, John
Kellenstine, Fred Schaefer, Wm. Welter and Howard Wilt. In addition, they each
contributed $20 to begin the start-up budget.

We were unable to obtain photographs for several of our Fallen Brothers. If any reader
