CPJ SEM 2 TERM 2

a wrap of this semester's frustration

FINAL OUTCOME

CHARACTER INSPIRATIONS & BRAINSTORMING

CHARACTER INSPIRATIONS (main character) As you can see, I lean more towards disney style rather than anime style

CHARACTER INSPIRATIONS (side character) Finding the best inspo for the father is waaayy harder than the one for the daughter. For some reason I just couldn’t find the expected look of “kind father” like the one i have in my head

First-hand INSPIRATIONS MY COUSIN! MY UNCLE I called with my mom and told her about my frustration in finding the best fitting look for the father character And she replied with, “why don’t you draw your uncle?” AND I WAS LIKE OH YEAHHHHH THATS A GOOD IDEA! Anyways, my uncle is best fitted for this because in real life, he is also such a loving single father!

SETTING INSPIRATIONS At first i wanted to make the setting and whole theme kind of modern-like and social class I would say is mid to high. But then I thought about it again, and there are already lots of stories that hole that kind of concept. And so I want to try to go with country-side & village type of style. I also referred to my home country, Indonesia for the environment

HOSPITAL INSPIRATIONS

AFTER A LOOOONG LONG PROCESS OF BRAIN DAMAGING BRAINSTORMING... I finally came up with several character designs! This was especially the hardest part: APPLICATION of what has been brainstormed. Never in my life I ever created an original character.

VOILA!!! Instead of a hoodie, I gave the character a stronger background from the clothing. Since I’m planning to make her seem like a village girl, I used what high schoolers in Indonesia use Since this story also contains the coming of age aspect, I created different looks for different ages.

these are the ideas that I came up with for last term. AND I CHANGED IT TO... *definitely boring and basic* what kind of clothing is this????

HOWEVER, I asked everyone regarding my character and they all said it looks just like 10000 other highschool characters and doesn’t quite resemble anything AND SO... I MADE A LAST MINUTE CHANGE TO THE CHARACTER This was by far the craziest decision I’ve ever made. Because I actually drew the emotions with my previous character’s look. It was a hassle but it was worth it I created braids to give a village and countryside feeling. This is so much more relatable to the story compared to the short hair look. I also purposely made the hair messy so that it fits the character’s personality.

For the father, I was inspired mainly by my uncle. YES HE GOT A HUGE BELLY! Why I chose him is because he has kind facial features. You can definitely tell if a character looks mean or not! For instance, I created a low arch brows, big nose, and round face SHAPE LANGUAGE! After analyzing several case studies from creating content, I learned that shape language does matter, and in this case I use a circular shape to show the father’s personality as a kind and approachable person.

FINAL LOOK! Maya (Main Character) Papa Rudy (Side Character) I am finally satisfied with how the characters look. In comparison to my first idea, these ones definitely suit the story and my expected setting more.

A2 BOARD FINAL ASSESSMENT BRAINSTORM

First-hand INSPIRATIONS These are several of the important aspects in the actual story. Surprisingly after I scrolled through my gallery, I found fitting pictures! A few of them were actual moments in the hospital with my passing father

After scrolling deeeep, I finally started drawing for each pieces of the layout. As of now I’m still coloring them grayscale just to see what fits best for the layout. I also made 8 sketches of layouts (next page)

These are the colored backgrounds. I chose two different color scheme to see which one i like best. Turns out, I lean more towards warm colors!

CONSULTATION RESULT: MS LYE COMPLETELY DISCARDED MY PIECE AND SHE FLAMED ME:”) I CLEARLY REMEMBER HER SAYING “THIS IS NOT RENDERING, THIS IS ONLY OUTLINING” However, in all honestly, I agree 100% with Ms Lye. I dont think I should take her input personally. I just started drawing digitally a few months ago and I truly don’t know how to render properly. And so SOLUTION: I learned how to render from 0 which is so shameful but worth the pain

These are the colored backgrounds. I chose two different color scheme to see which one i like best. Turns out, I lean more towards warm colors! I have always always been bad with coloring digitally. I never quite knew how to color block and do flatsfor environment. So, despite Ms Lye’s critique, I knew this day (THE DAY WHERE I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO COLOR AND RENDER PROPERLY) would come.

Ȅ ƌȵɋǠȽɋǠƩ ǒǠȵǹ ɋǚƌɋ ȽɋȵɓǒǒǹƷȽ ɋȏ ˟ɱ ǚƷȵ ȵƷǹƌɋǠȏȄȽǚǠȲ ɬǠɋǚ ǚƷȵ ưƌư FINAL A2 YUP I DID IT! YAY!!! PROUD AND GRATEFUL. I am still in awe knowing I was the one who colored the background FULL.

REFLECTION CRAFTING OF SKILLS CRAFTING OF SKILLS WAS BY FAR THE MOST TIME CONSUMING!!! It’s crazy how much my brain was forced to think and think and find more ideas TO THINK OF AGAIN. I have a total of 147 pins of ideas on my pinterest just to find the best parts for my short story. This was a crazy awesome journey!

PRACTICE 1

For our first PR practice, we were asked to move that cyan box based on an instruction guide sheet. INSPITE HAVING THAT, I STILL STRUGGLE. In my friend groups, I was always known as the least tech savvy. I just can’t seem to cmprehend how these key frames worked

So for our second Premiere Pro practice, we were asked to create an animated video based off a storyboard. We will be learning how to place psd layers into pr. I think this was such a huge MUST to do because it helps us learn what happens IF this or that happens PRACTICE 2

ANIMATICS ASSESSMENT *heart-beating intensifies*

So mr roi gave us this reference for camera movement and it definitely helped me in the making of animatics!

I’m really bad at visualizing camera shots and figures, AND SO i just took pictures myself! I wanted to draw the roof of the character’s room to show that she is looking up but couldn’t find any reference online, SO I MADE ONE:)

These are the organized folders on procreate for ALL 3 ACTS. Animating is tough, sometimes I wonder why WHY WHY WHY did I choose this course. And then I watch an anime and I’m like OH YEAH I WANT TO BE ABLE TO MAKE A FIGHT SCENE. Things can be so frustrating sometimes, but I learned to PUSH THROUGH AND FINISH STRONG!

STRUGGLES Being consistent with the character WHILST animating their moving their emotion is the HARDEST THING EVER. I had to at least repeat this 20x because the dad looks old at some and looks grumpier at the other

MORE STRUGGLES! YUP the struggle didn’t end there, My files went missing because I thought if I deleted the vids from my computer to prevent decreasing storage it won’t matter. Turns out the footage from PR IS ALSO GONE. but good thing i had backup I was also frustrated with the amount of sequences that have the same name. and when I rename it, it doesn’t change anything so yeah this was the struggle that I just had to shrug off in the end.

REFLECTION UNDERSTANDING MOTION LET ME TELL YOU. THIS CLASS WAS A CRAZY CRAZY RIDE. Never have I went through so much mental breakdowns in my whole life for school. I barely know how to draw digitally and I’m animating at once?! woah, this was honestly a different yet meaningful experience. I was in war with myself for the WHOLE SEMESTER. note for mr roi: you are literally the most UNDERSTANDING teacher (pun intended). If I am not motivated by you, I wouldn’t have gone this far. I currently am still struggling with my overthinking-but-no-applying thing, but talking to you last time truly helped. soooo thankyou and thankyou cher!

AAANDDD THAT’S A WRAP! WAR HAS FINALLY ENDED:) *for now* Thank You Mr Roi, Ms Lye, and Mr Christopher for the amazing semester!
