Social Bullying Cyber Bullying TYPES OF BULLYING Verbal Bullying Physical Bullying you ugly little crybaby !! Physical bullying involves using physical force or actions to harm or intimidate another person. It can take various forms, including hitting, kicking, tripping, pinching, pushing, or even damaging someone's property. Verbal bulling includes name calling, insults, teasing, intimidation, homophobic or racist remarks, or verbal abuse towards a person. Cyberbullying refers to the use of digital technologies, such as computers, smartphones, social media, instant messaging, texts, websites, and other online platforms, to participate in bullying behaviors. Social bullying, occasionally referred to as covert bullying, is often harder to recognise and can be performed behind the bullied person’s back. It is to harm someone’s social reputation and / or cause humiliation. 2
BULLYING MAY BE PHYSICAL, VERBAL, AND/OR VISUAL Physical bullying includes hitting, slugging, kicking, pushing, shoving, pulling, and restraining the target. Name-calling, insults, belittling, taunting, gossiping, and threatening are examples of verbal bullying. CYBERBULLYING IS BECOMING AN EPIDEMIC The use of technology to bully is out of control: emails, phone calls, texting, use of social media such as Facebook, Vine, Instagram, Ask.fm, and other apps. Internet communications are 24/7. BULLYING MAY BE CLEARLY DISCRIMINATORY Bullies often consider one’s race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, and disability to select targets. As well, almost any real or imaged difference can be used as an excuse to bully. BULLYING IS AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOUR Bullying is unprovoked, hostile, forceful, sometimes violent, and often threatening behavior. Bullies seek to hurt, harm, threaten, harass, intimidate and/or terrorize the “target(s).” BULLYING IS INTENTIONAL One or more young people choose to bully a single or many other students. The target is not to blame. Bullies are responsible for their actions. BULLIES SEEK POWER Bullying is not simple or innocent play. It is not fun for the target and many peers who are watching the behaviors. Generally, the bully seeks domination and control over the target(s), as well as witnesses and bystanders. PART 2 : PERSONAL RESPONSES ON THE ISSUE BULLYING REMAINS A PERSISTENT PROBLEM IN MALAYSIAN'S SCHOOLS A) OPINIONS / REACTIONS / COMMENTARY / COMPARISONS / CAUSES AND EFFECTS OPINIONS 1. AYRIL IMAN BIN YUSOF (MS2311170144) 2. NUR ALEEYA NATASYA BINTI ABDULLAH (MS2311170197) 3. MAIZATUL AKMA BINTI SAPRY (MS2319180366) In my opinion, bully acts should not be compromised in under any circumstances. I think the authorities should handle this matter with a sense of justice and professionalism. In my opinion, bullying is becoming more prevalent because of the normalization of this matter. Bullies think this is just a joke but they don't know that their victim is mentally disturbed by their actions. From my point of view, anyone who were or is a bully victim needs to have the guts to seek for help from teachers, parents and counselors and not just hide in silence , alone. 4
REACTIONS Although there are many saddening things involving bully victims , I am happy upon hearing there are ways to prevent these bully victim from hurting themselves due to preassure and stress of being bullied such as talking to the school counselours. I feel infuriated upon hearing about these bully cases especially in schools. Some school wants to protect the good name of the school by not taking action against the bullying case. I feel like this is not fair for the bullied victim as they will continue to be bullied I feel unhappy knowing that bully cases are still increasing among students. Moreover, its worrisome to me that the bully's parents as they never assume or thought that their child is not doing any shenanigans at school. 5
0 COMMENTARY The things that happen in the article “ Boy who choked his younger brother to death” are because the child felt that his problem was not heard by his parents. All children want to be heard by their parent even if it is not a big deal. As parent,we need to ask about our child`s condition because sometimes they feel that the problems they face are not important for us to hear. No matter how small the problem is, as parents we need to listen to it. ''He had complained that he was bullied by two seniors at school where he was choked while he was sleeping, splashed with water, and also kicked apart from being beaten up, '' 45 year old man , father of the victim (2023). Based on this statement given by the father of the victim it is a known fact that the school and students who knew about this case did not take any effort to voice out this matter to the higher ups. This shows that society needs to step up and be brave to help these bully victims so that they don't turn for the worse outcome. 1. 2. 3. 6 "He called his mother quite frequently but initially I thought that it was normal for children who study in boarding school up until he had injury marks and scars”. 45 year old man , father of the victim (2023). I’d say that parents should not take lightly of what their child says if it involves bullying regardless of how small or big the issue is. As good parents, they should take quick actions and write a report to the police for further investigation.
STUDENT BEFORE BEING BULLIED STUDENT AFTER BEING BULLIED Students who weren't bullied , often uses the public transport to commute from the house to school as they are excited to meet their friends. Furthermore, they seem more approachable and energetic. We can definitely see the difference aftereffect of being bullied in students. They become more timid, have changes in sleep patterns and refuses to talk about what is wrong. These students who were bullied often have mood swings, continually ‘loses’ money or starts stealing. They also tend to become aggressive and unreasonable. COMPARISONS Before being bullied, most of the students are eager to go to school as well as having good grades because they do not have any fear of going to school and they are happy to be at school. After being bullied, most of these students shows a change of behaviour such as not wanting to go to school, school grades going downhill. These students becomes terrified at school and their mental health will to deteriorate. Before being bullied, students usually have a cheerful character and talk a lot at school. Apart from that, students will also like to tell stories to the people around them 7
CAUSES EFFECTS Verbal bullying and its effects are the ones that leave internal scars that we carry for the rest of our lives. A wound will heal and the scar will fade, but the emotional and mental pain will continue for years to come. One of the types of bullying is social bully which can be caused by misleading or untrue rumours being spread in schools, social media and other mediums. This type of bullying can also be a factor from students playing unpleasant jokes to humiliate someone. Cyber bullying is known to be one of the type of bully. Lets say that your sister is are among the bully victim, as the older sibling , you should tell your parents regarding the aggression that had inflicted on to your sister. There is no reason for you to cower and hide any words. If its left without any actions taken, a chain reaction of bullying in further generation wont stop. NUR ALEEYA NATASYA BINTI ABDULLAH (MS2311170197) Parent should help kids understand bullying. Also talk about whhat bullying is and how to stand up to it safely so that kids do not become victims of bullying. We also have to tell the kids that bullying is unacceptable and make sure kids know how to get help. If you are being threatened by a particular person, talk to your friend. It could be someone you are comfortable to talk with or your closest friends. Speak up about the thoughts you have been having when you were bullied. Surely they will try to help as much as they dont want your life in danger. A friend in need is a friend indeed. B) RECOMMENDATIONS / SUGGESTIONS /SOLUTIONS / PREDICTIONS MAIZATUL AKMA BINTI SAPRY (MS2319180366) AYRIL IMAN BIN YUSOF (MS2311170144) RECOMMENDATIONS 9
To overcome this issue as parents, we should always ask about our children's condition at school so that our children know that we are willing to listen to their problems. Children's burden will be reduced when they feel heard., SUGGESTIONS I suggest, the school must take immediate action on bullying cases. This is because when this case is ignored it will cause the victim to be bullied even worse. This will also cause the school's reputation to be bad If you are being bullied or sees someone being bullied, don't be afraid to tell the teacher about it, because if the matter is ignored, the cases of bullying will increase and someone's life will be at stake. 10
SOLUTIONS Schools and public organizations should put together anti-bullying programs. When schools and public organizations make a move and take a good look at the type of bullying that occurs among the students and how it has an effect on students in that situation, they can come up with more effective solutions that stands a better chance of success. It is important not to assume that your child will feel comfortable talking to you about being bullied. There may be a tremendous amount of shame surrounding what they are experiencing. Try to pay attention to signs such as loss of appetite, avoiding social situations, loss of personal items, unexplained injuries and general changes in behaviour and attitude. Until there are lights at the end of the tunnel, this situation should be handled appropriately by parents to create empathy in their child's heart and way of thinking. It is important to make sure children understand how their actions can affect others and as an effect, these children will grow and have a happy friendship with everyone. 11
PREDICTIONS Technology has enabled the development of reporting mechanisms and intervention tools to address cyberbullying and online harassment. I wish and hope that the higher ups can make use of this technology. This is because anonymous reporting systems can empower individuals to speak up about bullying. Simple acts of kindness can make a significant difference in combating bullying. Acts of kindness and inclusivity can create a positive ripple effect within communities. I hope that everyone shows acts of kindness to anyone younger, older, big or small so that the world especially schools can be a safe place for childrens specifically as they are still growing, There is growing recognition of the importance of providing support to both individuals who experience bullying and those who may engage in bullying behavior. I hope in the near future, both victims of bully and the person ho bullies gets treated as per needed. Mental health services and counseling needs to be increasingly available to help individuals navigate these challenges. 12
PART 3 : CONCLUSION In conclusion, bullying is a pervasive and serious issue that can have profound and lasting effects on individuals, families, and communities. It encompasses various forms of aggressive behavior, including physical, verbal, social, and cyberbullying, and can occur in various settings, such as schools, workplaces, and online platforms. Addressing and preventing bullying requires a multi-faceted approach that involves individuals, communities, educational institutions, and policymakers. We should raise awareness about the consequences of bullying and educating individuals about empathy, conflict resolution, and the importance of treating others with respect are essential steps in preventing and addressing bullying. 13
