Gajah di Dalam Rumah
Author: Sam Wilson
Illustrator: Michael Tymbios
Translator: Maharani Aulia
Pada suatu pagi, Lindi mendapati seekor
gajah di kamarnya.
"Lihat!" teriaknya. "Ada gajah di kamarku!"
"Tidak mungkin," sahut Ibu. "Gajah tidak
hidup di dalam rumah. Semua orang juga
tahu."
Si gajah menguap.
2/15
Waktu sarapan, Ayah meminta Lindi
mengambilkan susu.
"Tidak bisa, Ayah," kata Lindi. "Si gajah sudah
meminumnya sampai habis."
"Mana ada gajah?" sahut Ayah. "Gajah tidak
hidup di tengah kota. Semua orang juga
tahu."
Si gajah bersendawa.
3/15
Di sekolah, Pak Guru mengeluh. "Kenapa
papan tulis ini tiba-tiba jadi keriput?"
"Itu bukan papan tulis, Pak Guru. Itu gajah
saya," kata Lindi.
"Mana mungkin ada gajah di sekolah?" kata
Pak Guru. "Semua orang juga tahu."
Si gajah melahap roti isi milik Pak Guru.
4/15
Pada jam istirahat si gajah mengikuti Lindi ke
taman bermain.
Tanpa sengaja si gajah menubruk ayunan.
"Pergilah!" seru Lindi. "Kamu tidak nyata dan
tidak seharusnya ada di sini. Semua orang
juga tahu."
Si gajah muram. Ia pergi sambil mengusap air
mata dengan belalainya.
5/15
Pulang sekolah, Lindi tidak melihat si gajah.
"Gajah!" panggilnya. "Kamu di mana?"
6/15
Lindi pulang tanpa ditemani
si gajah.
Ia merasa sepi.
Ia pun keluar dan duduk di
beranda. Ia menunggu.
Terus menunggu.
Masih menunggu.
7/15
Kemudian...
Ia melihat belalai.
Dan gading.
Dan telinga yang lebar.
Si gajah kembali!
8/15
Lindi berlari dan
memeluknya.
"Maafkan aku," kata Lindi.
"Aku tidak ingin
menyakitimu! Aku tahu
kamu nyata. Kamu
gajahku."
Si gajah menaikkan Lindi ke
punggungnya. Mereka
berjalan-jalan.
9/15
Lindi menyapa tetangganya.
"Hai, Pak Green! Hai, Bu
Green!"
"Lihat Lindi!" seru Pak
Green. "Bagaimana dia bisa
melayang di atas sana?
Mungkin dia punya
kekuatan super!"
"Mana mungkin?" sahut Bu
Green. "Gadis kecil tidak
akan melayang setinggi itu.
Semua orang juga tahu."
10/15
Si gajah mengajak Lindi ke danau. Lindi
menuruni belalainya, seolah turun dari
perosotan.
"Waaaaa!" serunya.
Mereka bermain sepanjang sore, tertawa
bersama, dan saling memercikkan air.
11/15
Malam itu, si gajah
mengantar Lindi ke tempat
tidurnya.
"Selamat malam, Gajah,"
kata Lindi. "Terima kasih
untuk satu hari yang
menyenangkan."
Si gajah mengusap kepala
Lindi, dan meringkuk di luar
kamar untuk tidur.
12/15
"Gajah adalah sahabat paling baik sedunia," Lindi bergumam sendiri.
"Tidak ada yang mengerti hal itu, kecuali aku dan gajahku."
