Stage Challenge

Last Thursday, 75 girls
from Years 7-13 gathered
together at the very early
hour of 6:45am, ready to
go off to Stage Challenge.

At the beginning of the year,
a group of Year 13 leaders
consisting of Annika Anderson,
Caitlin Ashdown, Sarah
Shanahan, and Lauren Hunter
came together to create an
idea that the audience could
easily relate to, as well as be
enlightened from. Thus, our
theme of ‘Cindypendent’ was
born, wherein we put our own
modern twist on the classic
fairytale, ‘Cinderella’. We did
this in order to portray a message that is important to us as young women today; “You don’t need a prince to be a princess.” From a
young age, we have been taught that in order to have a happily-ever-after, the princess needs to marry the prince. However, we wanted
to show that girls like Cindy can take control over their own happy ending and gain the independence and courage to be themselves.

With the invaluable guidance from our supervising teachers Ms Buddle, Ms Palmer, and Ms Kelly, and the help of Year 11 students Hannah
Jang, Morgan Johnson and Vileshka Karunaratne, we created a performance that showcased the girls’ impressive talents, as well as give
those new to dancing a chance to shine and develop their skills, while also creating new friends in a safe, fun, and comfortable environment.
After two terms of organising, choreographing, producing, and teaching, the leaders,
dancers, and the crew who helped behind the scenes left it all on stage, and therefore,
can all be extremely proud of what they achieved and the family they created.

Carmel came away with 4 awards on the night;

Award of Excellence for Choreography

Award of Excellence for Performance skill

Award of Excellence for Concept

Award of Excellence for Costuming

Congratulations to everyone and a special mention to Claudia Lee in charge
of costumes, and the Choreographers, Annika Anderson, Caitlin Ashdown,
Sarah Shanahan, Vileshka Karunaratne, Hannah Jang, and Morgan Johnson.
