Spring Round Up
Welcome to our Second Newsletter!
Ethel’s last trip was on Tuesday 17th
March, a lovely sunny day but tinged
with sadness as we were all aware that
it was going to be some time before
normal service resumed. However, we
were heartened that 18 groups had
enjoyed hugely successful trips since
our 2020 season started at the
beginning of February. Let’s have a little
look back at what’s been happening
since the last newsletter . . .
New Skippers
Congratulations to Tony, Roger, Alan &
John! Following a three day course run
by the National Community Boats
Association, we are pleased to
announce that we now have four more
qualified skippers. The course started at
Eastwood, Rotherham doing boat
handling on the river Don and the canal. This involved
being assessed on electric and manual locks and then
bringing Ethel back through the Tinsley flight and back
to the marina. The new skippers will spend some time
being mentored by Ethel’s senior skippers then they will
be all set for leading trips on their own.

Christmas Trips Talbot School sharing the
love with their Ethel
For the 3rd year Wristbands
running, Ethel was
decked out for Stephen enjoying Wilsic
Christmas and turned Hall Christmas trip
into a fabulous Grotto.
Father Christmas,
Mother Christmas and
their helper Elf were
there to welcome
Sparkle members.
Children who wouldn’t
cope with a busy Santa’s Grotto got to enjoy precious time
alone with Santa, along with
their families. Wilsic Hall
School also enjoyed a pre
Christmas day trip with a very
special guest giving out
presents, looking out for
reindeers and even showing
his steering prowess.
