INTRODUCTION
After the fasting Ramadan
month end, Muslims will
welcome the month of Syawal
and will celebrate the Happy Eid.
Happy Eid Al-Fitr means
“celebration day,” and the day
that marks the end of the fasting
month of Ramadan (Nazri Abdul
Raji et al,2017). The end of
Ramadhan is not the end but a
start point for a new journey
towards Jannah.
THE JOURNEY BEGIN
My family live
d in Shah Alam.
However, my mother and my father
were born in Kedah village. Every year,
my family always celebrated Happy Eid
in the village which is situated in
Kedah. We always arrive a day early
before the arrival of the first day of
Happy Eid. The journey back to the
village was very tiring because people
will return to their hometown before
the festival arrives. The highway was
congested with cars and buses. But, I
felt very excited that day as we as a
family would gather with other family
members at grandparents' house to
celebrate this celebration together while
listening to hymns in the car.
Our arrival at 3 pm was
warmly welcomed by
grandparents and all the other
family members at the
grandparents’ house. After that,
we lifted the stuff into the
grandparent board bungalow
house, we as a family would help
what was necessary and I help put
up the curtains, cook the 'ketupat',
'rendang', and so on. Then, I would
mop the floor of my grandparents'
house until it was shiny. Around
the yard of my grandparent's
house is very big, many trees are
planted such as rambutan, and
durian.
At night, after breaking fast, my
cousin and I played fireworks
together in the yard of the house.
Fireworks are small containers
filled with explosive chemicals
that make a loud noise when
they explode and sometimes
produce bright (Cambridge
Dictionary, 2021). The
environment at that time was
very lively followed by hymns
that were played loudly and
filled with laughter.
FIRST DAY OF
HAPPY EID FITR
On the first day of Happy Eid,
I woke up early on my own
without being woken up by my
mother. After bathing and
performing the dawn prayers, I
got ready to put on the new
clothes I bought recently. My
family wears shirts of the same
colour. After that, we went to
the mosque on foot for Eid
prayers.
After the prayers, we all gathered
in the living room and forgave each
other. That was the most meaningful
time. We all make mistakes
sometimes, sometimes we do bad
things. But this doesn’t mean we’re
evil, or we can’t be trusted afterward.
Most of my family members cried. One
thing that I like the most is my
grandparents and relatives would give
me the Happy Eid money. I get a lot of
money because I am the last
grandchild. Then, we will eat food for
Eid and I like eating 'ketupat' with
'rendang'. A variety of delicious and
cookies are available at the dining table.
I ate up and added many times because
food like this is only available on Eid.
Afterward, we all gathered in
the living room to make a photo
session as a keepsake and make
a picture frame to hang at the
grandparents’ house as we would
gather together only once a year.
All sorts of styles they make,
some make mini hearts, some
hold food. I was amused to see
their behavior.
After that, my cousins and I
celebrated by walking from house to
house to collect Happy eid money and
eat various delicious in each house. I
felt very full but I kept eating because
the food served looked very appetizing.
At 3 pm, we changed into T-shirts
and played in my grandparents'
backyard like throwing slippers and
soccer. After tiring play and a lot of
sweat coming out, we would take a
walk to the waterfall. The distance
from my grandparents’ house is about
10 minutes and upon arrival, we will
take a waterfall shower for 2 hours.
The waterfall was very cold and I felt
very calm as I could see a lot of green
trees around the waterfall.
At night, we all gathered in the
living room while watching ghost
stories and eating popcorn. The
environment at that time was like
watching a movie in a movie
theater and was very lively and
noisy with everyone screaming.
After that, I slept with my
roommates and shared stories
with them because they were so
funny and liked to tease me. The
room was filled with our laughter.
FINAL CHAPTER
I love celebrating Happy Eid
with my family and other
family members. The first day
of the festival when I was little
was a sweet memory for me.
May every moment of this
feast shine with brightness
and blessings.
