GRADE: Pre-Kindergarten

ASSESSOR: Mrs. P Denise Smith (Tutor)

ABOUT THIS ASSESSMENT

Ayoaje took the Diagnostic Pre- Kindergarten Awareness Test June 2020.
This diagnostic tests her phoneme skills: grade level letter sound
recognition, identifying letters and phonological awareness, as well as
familiarity with rhyming words. Additionally it tests her counting abiltity. It
also tests her ability to identify basic colors and shapes. This assessment
does not cover Reading Information (RI) or pre-kindergarten sight words.
Her answers give insight to her ability to begin reading two and three letter
phonetical words, her ability to recognize letters make sounds as well as her
ability to recognize same beginning sounds in different words, and to
produce rhyming words on her current grade level.

WHAT DOES HER RESULTS MEAN?

• How Ayoaje compares to other students prepared for Pre -Kindergarten in
the Fall 2020 term
• How well Ayoaje will perform in reading pre-k and kindergarten sight
words
• How well Ayoaje will perform in sounding out unfamiliar words that are
spelled phonically correct (phonemes in words)

ANALYSIS
Although Ayoaje did very well in recognizing her colors, she needs help with
recognizing basic shape she was unable to perform in understanding letters. She
does not recognize the sound of letters nor the type of letter. Since she does not
recognize the sound of letters she is unable to perform additional metrics such as
recognizing rhyming or changing sounds in words to create new words which
begin with the same letter. However Ayoaje seems to be a very bright young girl
and she has time before she starts kindergarten.

NEXT STEPS
• Practice tracing letter while saying the name of the letter (Day 1)
• Practice identifying words with letter of the week (Day 2)
• Practice recognizing sound of letter of the week (Day 3)
• Practice differentiating words that begin with letter of the week and words that
don’t (Day 4)
• eBooks or tv shows – At least once a week point out words with letters of the
week
• Meet with tutor 2-3 times a week
