Editorial

‘Tough times don’t define you, they refine you’. This wonderful thought speaks it all. At
the onset of this ‘dark age’ in the history of mankind, everyone had been knocked out by
the hammer of doubts and despair, frantically trying to dictate terms to conquer the
invisible enemy and define themselves in the chasm of uncertainties, but fast forward a
year, still in the chasm of uncertainties, still the invisible enemy at large, instead of
defining, people have been refining themselves for their redemption.

The sheer number of articles, poems, drawings and paintings sent by the young
Bhavanites is a true testimony to the fact that the process of refinement is the only way
to redemption.

This year, Tejas has set up a miniscule world of letters and hues in a cerebral–
ergonomic manner so that the readers can transform into Gullivers and explore the
Lilliput of words without disturbing the tranquility of the ocean of emotion around.

‘It’s the darkest nights that produce the brightest stars’

Creativity is the world’s greatest weapon. It always wins. In the midst of the pandemic
pandemonium, the Editorial Team takes immense pride in unveiling “Tejas 2020-21”, a
delectable assortment of eclectic experiences, dynamic accomplishments, exhilarating
flashbacks, winsome artworks, and so on. It captures the momentous moments of
Bhavanites’ resilience; they have found ways to carry on—at a distance.

The Editorial Team is indebted to the Chairman, Principal, teachers, and parents, who,
in spite of their engaging schedule, encouraged the students to unleash their creativity.
Courtesy to the discourteous virus, this academic year has indeed been challenging, and
we adulate the indomitable will of the students and teachers who embraced the
challenge with vivacity and placidity and made Tejas, a canvas to their imagination.
Garnering the resources, compiling them, and presenting them have indeed been a
gratifying experience for the team.

When we embarked on this journey, we perceived that it could just be a stroll down the
lane, but it turned out to be an Odyssey leaving us with a backpack of souvenirs. And
now, drum roll please, we are officially blazoning “Tejas 2020-21”. Buckle up and get
ready to explore……..

Happy reading!

STUDENT COUNCIL REPORT

This year was definitely something out of the ordinary. While online education
prevailed the whole year, the various virtual events conducted were no less
grand than their offline equivalents. Throughout the year, the student council
have organized many such programs and undertaken activities, some of which
are listed here.

DEDICATION TO FRONTLINERS: It is no doubt that this year was filled with
unprecedented crises and at the forefront, we’ve had many fearless individuals
battling against the virus. To express our sincere appreciation and sense of
gratitude towards them, the student council, in association with many talented
singers, organized and put together a short video as tribute to all the front lin-
ers.

TEACHERS’ DAY: Despite this pandemic bringing unforeseen obstacles and
challenges to the world of teaching, all the teachers have ensured that educa-
tion is not compromised in the least. To thank the teachers from the bottom of
our hearts, and to showcase a sliver of the gratitude we wished to express, the
student council organised a fun program filled with heartfelt messages and
songs as part of the Teachers Day Celebrations. There were a variety of enter-
taining games for the teachers as well.

INDEPENDENCE DAY: To visit our patriotic roots again, the virtual independ-
ence day was celebrated with pomp and splendour by Bhavans. The student
council members worked together to pull it off and it resulted in a grand pro-
gram. Various members were involved in performing, singing, emceeing as well
as other activities.

SPORTS DAY: Sports always play an essential role in maintaining good health
and also help in building character and discipline. The sports day that took
place this year was the result of the hard work of many, with the members of
the student council playing key roles throughout, whether it be judges or em-
cees.

Whether this be the last time a virtual council is elected or not, it definitely goes
without saying that the whole journey was a memorable one. I thank every
member of the team for walking an extra mile this year, with the year’s activities
being a proud outcome of many a hand, and our much-loved teachers for re-
lentlessly guiding us throughout the year. Teamwork truly is at the heart of any
great achievement…

THE PATERNAL PINE SILENCED SCREAMS
The yellow foliage in wind did shiver Light no more candles in my name,
The trunk with nicks and cuts of yore My cold- blooded wounds deserve no fame,
Swayed in the wind of the valleys Don’t shed a tear more over my grief,
Stood the deep-rooted tree amid For I have toiled hard to lull myself to eternal relief..
The agony of leave-taking swallow But before I leave let me remind you,
Raddled, pined, but calm and still Hidden within the walls of your house lives a NIRBHAYA too,
The sanguinely sane swallow did A NIRBHAYA who wishes to live with her head held high,
Shed a tear drop for the paternal pine Without fear, without shame, who wishes to fly..
That fought the tyranny of wintry eves Who irks each time she’s called impure,
And the sultry sun’s scorching beams As she bleeds through unknown wounds that see no cure,
Swallow many a soared to the sky And every month her wails, her cries of pain,
Sans knowing the pain of the pine Are hushed down over and over again ….
Pine never did pine for any bird Her gaze too learns to lower itself, as she walks amidst a hundred
But the sweet swallow that chirped stares,
Cheerfully throughout the season Her skirts, her salwaars too seem confused, as to how they
Swallow flapped its tiny wings manage an equal share,
And left the tree in the dusk And through her journeys in trains, in buses,
In the damp, delusive dusk Her body adapts to infracting touches,
The paternal pine peered at She learns to breathe through choking hands,
the poised bird and waved For no one seems to understand
Its branches bidding adieu What it feels like to be felt a hundred times,
In the damp, delusive dusk And slowly she normalizes these wonted crimes
E.P Prasad She silently vents out all her fears,
Faculty of English And shuns her voice beneath her tears,
And then the NIRBHAYA of your house too,
Clips her wings, forbids her flight
And dares no more to dream at night,
So light no more candles in my name,
Don’t give my cold blooded wounds, undeserved fame
Give your sisters, your daughters breathing bruises a cure,
And make sure in solitude they no longer endure,
See that they close their eyes tonight,
To wake up to their first independent flight,
So today I shall peacefully pass away,
Promising life to a hundred more each day,
Maa and baba you too take care, and grieve no longer in my
sorrow,
Just hope and pray your daughter’s soul gives rise to a better, a
brighter tomorrow………..

Once, I was trapped Genesis
Once, I was trapped,
in a gloomy forest. My eyes were closed
It was very, very dark My ears were plugged,
and filled with wild animals I was in a deep siesta,
I never knew where I slept.
Somehow, I managed to reach a cave
A cave covered in darkness. My mom kept me safe
It was very, very large, My wings were clipped,
with strange sounds coming from it. My legs were tied up,
I was in a deep sleep,
I entered the cave with my torch on I never knew where I slept.
and my heart in my throat.
All I found is nothing except, The wind was blowing like a whistle,
a pair of gleaming eyes. The sun was burning outside like a hearth,
The Koel was singing outside like a vocalist,
It looked at me not appearing to blink. The boast was roaring like a barbarous betrayer,
I looked at it very scared. I never knew where I slept.
We looked ourselves back and forth,
Until I, ran outside the cave. Someone woke me up,
Someone removed my blanket,
The Bats, whose eyes I saw in the cave Someone cared me overlong,
flew away from it. All through the scotch mist in the town
For the reason I knew well I never knew where I slept.
They too were afraid!
Abhijith Sujith Krishna I was greeted by a buoyant sunlight,
Class 4 A I was cuddled by the warmth of sunrays,
I started to peep the realm,
And yes, I was awake, I was roll-out,
And I knew I was born!

AN UNEXPECTED CHRISTMAS GIFT

As you all know, life is pretty boring these days, there is basically nothing to do .I expected the same
for X mas, “stuck at home like a bird in a cage” nothing to do, nothing to see. It seems like dreams are more
likely to come true in our life.A great example was yesterday’s incident in my life. Well, it goes something like
this……

The day before yesterday, I was wondering tomorrow is x mas, what will we do? May be we will go
outside and do something fun but with precautions, of course or we will decorate house, bake a cake, make x
mas cards, meet our family friends and play some games with them. I had tonnes of ideas in my mind during
bedtime….

I wake up on the X’mas morning with a mind full of plans but my parents were busy, due to pandemic
they did not want me to go out. Oh, My God all my plans were crashed. Then I approached my mother to bake
a cake, but unfortunately we don’t have all the ingredients for that. All I wanted was a little X’ mas cheer, turns
out the stars heard my wish….

Suddenly there was a knock on my door, who could it be? I wondered, opened the door, so excited,
there were two people, Shreya and Shalan our old neighbours. Oh, thousands memories came to my mind, we
laughed, played and talk each other for hours and days. They gave me an X ‘mas cake, we chat for some time, I
was so happy and thought that stars heard my wish.. Then they left.

After they left, my dad’s phone started to ring it was my dad’s friend. We were going for a road trip. I
was in seventh heaven about this unexpected trip, even I don’t want to know where we were going. We all
dressed up and were ready to go. We all entered the car, my cute little friend Devukutten played with me inside
the car for some time. After that I felt car sick and bored, it was pretty uncomfortable, gradually we entered into
the “Road of Death” uncle told me that this is the road in which Iraq soldiers came to Kuwait for battle. So
many incidents they were talking about the war, I can see all that through my mind, and was quite disturbed.
Then we entered into an area full of farms…..

But due to Covid 19 almost all the farms were closed for public. Again, I was started to lose hope, felt
hungry, Devukutten slept. Again I felt bored and thought that this would be the worst day of my life….

On the way we found a place with so many trees with full of grasses. It was a calm place. So we
decided to stretch out and have our lunch. Oh it was freezing outside, my hands were so cold. I have no idea
about our food. We prepared the place and get ready for our food. They opened the food can, oh Biriyani
my favourite, it was so tasty, but it was cold outside so a different experience for all of us. We have swiss rolls
as desert. We continued the journey.. Finally we reached into a beautiful farm “Al Abdally farm” with a
Nursery. A rare site in Kuwait, full of vegetables and flowering plants like cabbage, corn, potatoes, tomatoes,
strawberries, jasmine, etc. My mom bought spinach and strawberry plants. One side of the farm was full of
animals like different varities of cows, sheep, hen etc… Devukutten and I enjoyed a lot by running and playing
together in that cold breezy afternoon.

It was almost evening time, so we decided to go back. We saw many naturally beautiful places on the
way back. We saw big white and brown camels but I was more excited by seeing white horses. Later we
reached a beautiful grassy area, I felt that area was like a splendid painting done by nature for us. We took
many photos at that area.

It was an unexpected best X ‘mas gift for me. It was the best day in my life and become more colourful
with my family and friends. I felt that, “something more unexpected rather than planned will add more cheer
and colour to our life”.

HOW TO MANAGE YOUR ANGER?
Anger is never without reason, but seldom with a good one. -Lord Buddha

It is normal for us as humans to lose our temper once in a while and let it all out, because anger is one among the
many emotions of the human mind. But it becomes a concern when the 'once in a while’ happens every now and
then, when even little things can make you so furious. You are always like a ticking bomb. You tend to start
arguments and fights on silly stuff. And slowly you start to let the anger control your life. And as teenagers, due to
the changes in our bodies, both mentally and physically, accompanied with the confusion as we grow up, we tend
to be more prone to outbursts than the rest. That is when we bring up the concept of anger management, because
we must be the ones to control anger, not the other way round.
The first step into managing anger is understanding what exactly makes you angry. In most cases we tend to be
angry when things don’t go our way. Sometimes we feel hurt, embarrassed or disappointed, but in that moment,
we tend to express it out as anger. It is normal to feel angry when we are being mistreated or disrespected. And we
can feel anger and frustration even when we are simply hungry, yes that’s right, you are not yourself when you’re
hungry.
The next step is to try to take control of the situation. For example, when you start getting irritated and angry at
someone, take a few seconds to think why you are feeling that way, and if it’s really necessary to let anger solve
whatever the problem is. Think like this once or twice and soon you’ll be doing it each time without even
noticing.
Try to walk away from a situation when you feel you won’t be able to control your anger. Take a time out, just go
for a walk, or have a shower even. That will help you think more clearly without anger clouding your thoughts
and calm down. Once you feel calm then you can talk.
When you feel like shouting at someone, imagine yourself in that person’s place, how would you feel? Not really
good right, it’s the same for others too.
So, the magic word to controlling your anger is ‘thinking’. But again, there’s a difference between controlling
anger and suppressing it. When you try to suppress your anger each time, it is like blowing up a balloon, you keep
on filling and filling it with air, until one fine day it bursts. That is way more dangerous. So, what we should do is
to let out our anger from time to time. But shouting, screaming and violence needn’t be the only ways, right? Try
to channel out your anger for the right reasons. Join campaigns and so on where people need you to use your
voice. Stand up for people who are being mistreated.
Anger was not, still isn’t and will never be the solution to any problem. Short term yes, but on the long ride, you’ll
only hurt yourselves and others. So, try to control it because I know I can, and if I can then so can you! It is not
that hard, encourage yourself, give yourselves an applaud whenever you stop those anger flames from burning
everything down, treat yourself with sweets or perhaps a Snickers. And just imagine, if you can turn that 1 minute
of anger into 60 seconds of joy and peace, wouldn’t that make each day more beautiful? I think, it will!

MOTHER NATURE
Nature in the broadest sense is the natural, physical & material world or universe. “Nature” can
be referred to the process of the physical world and also life in general. The study of
nature is a large, if not the only, part pf science. The word “Nature” is derived from the Latin
word “Natura” of essential qualities and in ancient times, it literally meant “Birth”.

Importance of nature:

Nature was present long before humans and ever since it has taken care of mankind. Survival
of mankind without nature is impossible and we need to understand that. If nature has the
ability to protect us, it is also powerful enough to destroy the entire mankind. We make us of
many things from nature like food, water etc to keep us healthy. Further the air that we
breathe, the wood that we use are all the gifts of Aarav Rajesh

nature only. But, with technological advancements, people are not paying attention to nature.
The need to conserve and balance the nature is rising day by day which needs immediate
attention.

In conclusion, nature has the powerful transformative power which is responsible for

functioning of life on earth. It is essential for mankind to flourish and so, it is our duty to

conserve the nature for our future generations. Hence, it is high time that we stop our selfish

activities and try our best to preserve the natural resources so that life can forever be

nourished on earth.

What more can dark-eyed lass ask for… And the horses grazing in the meadow
Near the river and its melodious flow.
Every year, the season in merry approach, Have you ever thought to care?
Every month, embracing its divinity, For the beauty of nature is everywhere
Every day, passes longing her advent, Like the rain that refreshes and cools
Unfortunate me but mourn every second… Over your sorrows while pain rules
Don’t you understand that our nature shares?
The mesmerizing music in falls, Its beauty which is everywhere

India the Great Kittie the cat
Kittie the cat, made up her mind
India the great, That she would certainly find,
For thousands is opened the gate. the little mice down the hole
It starts from the crown, And heat them and roast them in coal!
The crown Himalayas! They always nibbled on all the cheese
Standing so tall, And attracted all the bees
So great, That came because of the aroma of food,
That nothing can stop it! Which made Kittie be not in a good mood.
Then comes those Great Plains Kittie wanted to shoo away
Filled with amazing vegetation All in the month of May,
With flora and fauna Since it was her birthday!
Including the Ganga, She knew she could not tie them in a knot,
Greatest river of all Or put them in a jar, oh no! That is too far,
Flowing like a river from heaven, She could not even put them in the knitting bag,
Flowing great and tall. Because it was filled with too many rags.
Then comes the desert Soon Kittie came up with a plan,
Thar, they call it; I have heard, To eat the whole clan,
The wind of the west just blows And use some cheese as bait,
And always blows and blows. And then sit and wait.
And then comes the Deccan or Dakshan, When everything was ready,
Filled with black, lots of black And Kittie was steady,
Amazing beautiful soil. The mice moved away,
And found a new place to stay,
In a little and neat hole,
where they wouldn’t be roasted in coal.

That Worthy Pearl! Girls and Boys both have dreams
There was a young girl, But a girl might just not have the right to achieve
Who always had a happy smile.
I thought it was all real, She is treated like she is never there
Until the day I found it was a big lie. From ancient times till today
To none she ever lied, They are always in despair
Except her own pure mind.
Her happiness had already died, But be warned, if a girl may not be treated right
And no one could ever find. The life men want would never be right
No matter how much she tried, For if a women can’t be treated right
Her heart still had a big deep hole. Then look into the eyes of your girl child
As days passed the more she cried,
And being invisible was her only goal. And think, what is it that society can never get right
For one day your little girl will be a young lass
Then came one day, And even someone’s wife
That changed her life. Do you want your princess
On that rugged rocky way, To be treated right?
She finally learned to survive. Show true love to the woman
Never had she ever found, Who is in your Life
Such a real worthy pearl. Teach your Son through action
And no more did she feel down, What will truly make life bright!
And never did her mind whirl!

The Silver Linings of Quarantine

It is quite true, that no one enjoyed the Lockdown during the COVID-19 situation, but have you ever won-
dered about the changes made by this lockdown in your life? Has it been successful in nurturing you into a
better human being? Well, I have thought and came to know that I have turned a lot better these days.

In our busy world, we often forget to value things around us which may seem small. We get obsessed with our
studies, research, and works, such that we forget to notice and even spot some valuable objects in our
surroundings. But during this lockdown, I have learned to value many simple things in my house that I have
been ignoring for so long. I have changed a lot and have learned many values during this lockdown. I think the
lockdown has made me a better human being. I came to know how life can take a sudden turn and how we
must prepare to survive.

I realized that even if we have all the facilities like transportation, money, luxury, etc. we still may not get the
chance to have our primary needs or have other resources whenever we need them. COVID_19 has taken over
this world and we humans, irrespective of what we are in terms of richness, poverty, black, or white, are
suffering equally due to this. Thus, we need not discriminate against anyone based on this anymore as we do
not know what our future has for us.

This lockdown has helped me brush up on some of my ‘forgotten talents’ by participating in many online
competitions and fests. They provided enough opportunities for the people all over the world to interact with
each other. In this lockdown period, I have learned many life skills that I believe would help me throughout my
life. I have done many experiments in cooking and tried out many other things which sometimes were
successful, while unsuccessful at times.

I managed to learn many old games, saw many old movies, and got ample time to interact with my family.
This helped me to realize how important and supporting they are in our lives and that they will be there,
whenever we need them. We created memories to cherish together, which we shall not forget as those tiny
moments have left deep imprints in our hearts. This experience has also taught me the importance of friends in
my life. It has been an exceedingly long time since I have talked face to face with my friends and I do hope
that we would all meet on the outside premises soon. Friends are particularly important in our lives and they
form a very precious part of our lives indeed.

At times there were problems in the house which were related to the repairing of things and mending of pipes
and when there were complete lockdown and no way of finding the plumber, I helped my parents and we all
figured out a way in which we could solve the problem. This had helped me learn new tricks and hacks that
would help me throughout my life.

We as humans tend to always waste the things that are easily available to us like food, water, and other natural

resources. But this lockdown has made us realize that all our natural resources are indeed very precious, and

we will not be able to live without them for long. I also realized that we find it exceedingly difficult to

manage a month without traveling and stepping out of our house. I learned to be more resourceful. As it

is always told that we find the value of things only when it is not easily available to us. This has also taught me

how to live independently. COVID_19 has also taught me different ways to live hygienically and has taught

me the art of disaster management.

Last but not the least, this lockdown has made me look for happiness within myself and relish in it. The
pandemic has taught me the way to feel happy even in the toughest situations of life. It has made me
resilient enough to face any kind of adversities.

HOW I SPENT MY TIME IN LOCKDOWN

It was early march when I was preparing for my final exams. One evening we heard the news that Kuwait
would be locked down due to the COVID 19 pandemic and our school would remain closed until further
notice. My final exams got cancelled and like any other child of my age I bounced with happiness! In the
coming days I could sleep longer, watch movies, play video games and do whatever I wished to and
whenever I liked. But as the days passed, I started missing my school, my friends, my teachers, my outdoor
play activities and the outings with my family. I missed my old life! But soon I realized that I needed to
accept the situation and instead of complaining I should make the best possible use of the time I had.

I have always been curious to know how my mother transforms simple ingredients into mouthwatering
delicacies. I started spending more time in the kitchen observing my mother skillfully balancing the
nutrition, taste, appearance, and aroma of the foods she cooked. I learnt to cook the basic dishes that
usually constitute a typical Indian thali-chapati, curried vegetable, lentils, and rice. The hardest challenge
was to make a perfect round chapati and after several days of trial and error I did succeed in making an
almost round if not a perfect round chapati. I also discovered a secret ingredient that made my mother’s
food so special-her love. This is the reason why our mother’s food holds a special place in our hearts all
through our lives and no five star restaurant in the world can replace it!

I enjoy playing video games on my tablet and often wonder how these gaming apps are created. When I
browsed through the internet to gain more information about it, I learnt something very interesting. These
games are created using codes and the happy news was that I could take up the coding course online. I
managed to convince my parents to enroll me for the course.it is fascinating how simple strange looking
codes can make versatile apps and very soon I will be developing my gaming app

Moreover, I ensured that I kept pace with my studies, submitted my class assignments on time, actively
participated in curricular and extracurricular activities and excelled in all my class tests as well.

When the entire world is going through a difficult time, I am no exception. When life gives you lemons

make lemonade. Similarly taking up this situation as a challenge has helped me to stay positive and bring

out the best in me. Friendship

Teachers

Who is the strictest, yet forgiving; impartial, yet smartest superhero? Can you guess who it is? They were
the ones we used to meet at school with our friends; and now at home during online classes. They are also
called our ‘parents away from home’, or more commonly known as our ‘second parents’. They are our one
and only- Teachers.

They do a lot of hard work for us to have a bright future and to get into good positions later on in life. They
lend us their hand when we are in need, correct us when we are wrong and encourages us to challenge
ourselves.

Even though some of our teachers aren’t really techno-savvy, they go the extra mile to improvise and teach
us, so that this covid-19 pandemic will not disrupt our future. Though they are having their own family and
responsibilities, they are reachable at all times. During this challenging time, they just don't stop. They are
very experienced and can skilfully handle each and every student.

Our teachers are the best, as they teach not from the books, but from the heart. Teaching is a profession that
teaches all other professions. Thank you to all the teachers around the world for dedicating your time and

let me share an incident. Once, when I got an opportunity Akshitha Rajesh
to participate in a logical Math quiz, I decided to give it a

solve similar funny and logical questions in the future.
Now, let me answer to the question about how we can
create opportunities. This is possible by focusing on what
we do every day, by asking the right questions and by
focusing on our life. The more we emphasize on our
dreams, the more we will know if they are our dreams or
not. Opportunities can only come to us if we concentrate

Opportunities are everywhere. If we want them, surely

Digital Classrooms -Boon or Bane?
Change is something that happens naturally. From ‘The Brick’ to foldable smartphones, from horse-carts to cars
which travel at supersonic speeds and boast falcon wings, from caves to exotic mansions, everything has had
changes at some point in time. However, one thing that has never changed then and now, is the method of education.
Due to this, everyone was in a frenzy of changing the method of educating children. The COVID-19 pandemic
situation acted as a catalyst and now, almost all schools teach children via conference call software, such as Zoom,
Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom, VConSol, etc. ‘Virtual Education’, as it is called, is an innovative method of
educating children, which has finally come into action. Thanks to the lockdown created by the COVID-19
pandemic! Thanks to modern technology! Students can now learn and study from the comforts of their home.
There are many benefits provided by digital classrooms. Students can access these classes from anywhere if they
have a device along with them. Such classrooms also eliminate the problem of being afraid to ask doubts since they
don’t have to worry about being penalized or peer pressure. Virtual classrooms enable the teachers to give
assignments in such a way that they can be sure of everyone knowing about it. Students will have to pay attention as
their friends aren’t around them, which can result in a better learning experience for the child.
With all this said, there are many cons which must be worked on to ensure the long-term existence of digital
classrooms. Children increase their screen time by a considerable amount, which can be devastating to their eyes,
considering that children nowadays use gadgets a lot after the classes too. Online exams cannot be considered as
many children may do unfair means during the exam. Strong internet connection is crucial for virtual learning,
deprived of which, the classes may go haywire resulting in improper learning. Traditional schools require the
students to climb and get down stairs, which used to satisfy their physical needs. As online classes don’t require any
physical activity, this can act as a catalyst to gain weight. Students can also take advantage of the availability of
internet to play games or watch videos while completely ignoring the virtual classes.
Virtual classes are just like the two sides of a coin, except that you can choose which side you make the most use of.
In the end, how to use the classes is up to the children. On the one hand, these classes can be extremely beneficial.
On the other hand, these classes can become devastating.
