ACKNOWLEDGMENT

Life has many forms, in some cases, it starts with an unimpressive worm then
residing in a self-spun cocoon, then finally with a sort of fragile beauty, an amazing,
mesmerizing butterfly. Those days of solitude for the worm,in which it underwent
many fascination, fantastical changes might not have been easy and definitely did not
take place in a short amount of time, but in the end, the wait was worth it, for in the
end Life Finds A Way.

Tejas 2021-22 - a blast of words, exquisite talents, streaks of words, all served on a
silver platter, to be exhibited and marvelled by all those who lay eyes on it. Tejas
truly serves as an impeccable stage where one can witness the hidden talents of the
students of this gracious institution. This year’s magazine, like no other, has
emanated into one of the finest with the utmost support, dedication and hardwork of
all those involved in the making of this masterpiece.

On behalf of the whole team of Tejas 2021-22, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to
our respected chairman, Mr. N.K. Ramachandran Menon and our Principal
Mr. T. Premkumar for their unstinted support in these trying times. We also thank
our beloved Vice Principals Mrs. Anselma Tessy and Mrs. Meenakshi Nayyar and for
their constant encouragement.

We express our sincere gratitude to the editing team of Tejas, without whom this
magazine wouldn't have been born into existence. A special thanks to Mrs. Asha
Ebey, the head of the Computer Science Department and Ms. Anjali Nair for her
unparalleled contribution towards the making of this magazine.

A huge ‘thank you’ to all those talented and visionary poets, authors and artists for
their contribution. Thank you teachers and parents for your kind and sustained
patronage, through thick and thin, which we prize dearly with unspoken words of
gratitude that stem from our hearts.

Once again, we are truly grateful to all those who have been a part of this journey
from the very beginning till the end.

Thank you!

MESSAGE FROM VICE CHAIRMAN, BVBME

Dear Students / Teachers / Parents,

It gives me immense pleasure to contribute to this issue of our Annual School Magazine. Each
year, the school magazine outlines the progress that the school has made during the previous
academic year and recapitulates all events, showcasing the various activities of the school. This
year has passed swiftly in a blur of achievements and accomplishments, and I would like to
congratulate and extend my best wishes to all those who have worked hard to ensure that the
magazine remains a treasure trove of memories. To me, the magazine will always be an
event-filled journal, chronicling another exciting year that will be cherished by our students in
the years to come. Through this magazine, I would like to greet all the stakeholders of our school
family.

As a school, something that we have always believed in is, home is the first school and school is
the second home. This has come so true today with COVID19. As we continue to wrestle with
the implications of the situation, homes and how our children learn have become far more im-
portant than they may ever have been.

In March, when things started to fall out of place and we were forced to get ourselves prepared
for facets of our life that we had never encountered and when homes were where the action
moved to – learn from home, teach from home, work from home, assessments from home – I
think the one thing we at Bhavans realized was that – this is going to take some time. As is often
said, it is always better to use a compass over a map to navigate a world of uncertainty. We
realized we needed to block the negatives out and think like a monk on how we wanted to take
the academic year forward. We knew we didn’t want to sit around and wait for things to unfold,
but rather we wanted to make things happen. Unfortunately, when we are a school and when
there is a little chaos around and when we have impressionable minds looking at the school to
see what will happen next – it leaves very little margin for the school to be unprepared and to
seem unsettled. As far as we, as a school, was concerned, it was our topmost priority to give the
confidence that things would be as normal as they could and we would continue to do what we
do. That is teach – educate – provide opportunities – allow children to have their fun and much
more – all while they continued to trod the path to be a Global Citizen. A disruption shouldn’t
have to stop that march. We have always told parents in our school that we are keen on guiding
children into the future, who will be passionate about their work and who will want to strive to
make a difference in whatever they do and will stay the course in a very uncertain world. True –
we did improvise – like building our partnership with parents and children and getting them to
correct answer papers based on our marking schemes thereby building mutual trust and honesty,
being a little flexible with our timetables and increasing the class duration which gave teachers
and children that little time to adapt and adjust to the online platform, continue with the numer-
ous activities – song / dance / music all online for children, do virtual summer camps, virtual
sports days, class photo sessions with children sitting at home and of course the school annual
day. We were always conscious that these uncertain times would pass and would never be
permanent and when our children and teachers come back to school, they wouldn’t realise that
there was one year of the so called ‘new normal’. Our team of teachers at Bhavans has ensured

7

TEJAS 2021-22 TEJAS 2021

that we stayed the course and remained committed to our task and in the process also ensured
that we paid attention to not only the small things but also the bigger things like mental,
physical and emotional well-being of our teachers and students, ensuring that we all re-
mained healthy and happy. As we turn the corner and start to see the glimpse of hope that
sooner rather than later, we are all going to get back to, as a school we can be rest assured that
our teachers have done and are doing their best to keep our children engaged and active as we
all navigate and turn the corner. We may still not have reached the end of the roller coaster
ride, but we can take pride in the fact that we have reached the top of a mountain even if that
may be the bottom of the next one.

In this regard, BHAVANS owes much to its dynamic leadership whose untiring efforts have
resulted in the overall development of the school. I would also like to take this opportunity to
express my gratitude to all our staff members for their dedication and hard work that have
ensured that our flag is always flying high. Kudos to the parents and children for travelling
together with us and making sure that we ended the academic year on a high. I pray that the
Almighty God continues to bless all of us and help us get through these very difficult times.

Signing off with a variation of an inspired quote of Albert Einstein – At Bhavans, we don’t
teach our children. We create conditions for them to learn.

I Thank You Once Again.

MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL, IES, Kuwait

“Trust no Future, however pleasant

Let the dead Past bury its dead!

Act – act in the Living present

Heart within and God o’erhead”

Another full circle of an eventful academic year is coming to an end in couple of months.

The world operates on spiritual principles just as it operates on the laws of physics and

gravity. It is for us to learn what these principles are and choose to live by them. We, at

Bhavans IES, Kuwait, believe in this notion and aim at developing Total Quality Individ-

uals. We focus on more on the character attributes of the children so that they are spiritu-

ally enlightened world-class citizens.

Despite the pandemic, our teachers tirelessly work with the motive of raising the creden-

tials of the school to greater heights. The school has provided ample opportunities for its

vibrant student community to take part in the national and international competi-

tions and excel in them. We are trying to nurture innovation and creativity so that our

children can respond to the challenges of an independent, multicultural, and techno-

logically advanced global society.

Time is an ever-flowing stream. Clear vision, firm resolve and dauntless spirit to swim

even against its current bring many a laurels. We, at Bhavans IES, aim to develop an atti-

tude among our children, which can pole vault their careers to greater dimensions.

Society today needs a change. This change can only be brought about by meaningful edu-

cation. I call upon my students realize their inner strengths and work, with perseverance,

towards the achievement of their goals and establishment of a New World Order. May

God give them the strength to handle the transition from threshold of school to the world

of challenges with more maturity.

I wish to express my gratitude to the excellent parent community of IES who have stood

by us through thick and thin, supporting the initiatives of IES.

I place on record with deep gratitude and my heartfelt thanks to our most gracious

Founder and Chairman Mr. N.K Ramachandran Menon, our Vice Chairman, Mr. Sooraj

Ramachandran and Director, Ms. Divya Rajesh Ramachandran for their great insight and

wisdom and most enduring support and guidance which have helped IES in achieving

such heights of success.

Best wishes always for this premier Indian school that I am blessed to be part of…

MESSAGE FROM VICE-PRINCIPAL (Senior Wing) - IES, Kuwait

SUCCESS AND EMOTIONS

The meaning of success is being able to achieve one’s desired goals. The criteria for success
can vary from person to person, depending on the context, situation, perception etc. But the

path towards achieving success is not an easy one and one would come across several ob-
stacles of varied types and how one handles and overcomes these obstacles will define
one’s success, according to the perception of others. Very often emotions redirect our

path away from achieving our goals. Emotions are the by-products of attachments, and if
you have a balanced attitude towards attachments, you can control emotions in a positive

manner. Emotions can have a positive or a negative impact on us. When we let emotions
empower us, we become vulnerable and give in to failure very easily. We find that in to-

day’s world anxiety, depression, substance abuse, suicidal tendencies etc. have become ram-
pant among the young and the old. This is because we do not manage our emotions

well, or it is because of our attachment and expectations we give in to emotions and we let
them take an upper hand.

To be successful in life, desire, skills, or intelligence quotient alone are not enough, but
they must be coupled with emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is not inherent,
and it can be acquired. The factors responsible for it are self-awareness, self-management,
social awareness, and relationship management and avoiding too much of ‘attachments’. To
be self-aware, one must analyze one’s strength and weakness and derive confidence from
his/her strength and remove one’s weakness. Emotions, if not managed well, can have a
lasting effect on one. One must be able to recognize emotions and realize how these emo-
tions affect our thoughts and actions. We must be able to manage and express it in the
most appropriate manner instead of being victims of it.
Emotional intelligence begins to develop in the early years of life. All the small exchanges
children have with their parents, teachers, and with each other carry emotional messages.
As parents we look for the ways of improving intelligence quotient of our children, but it
is very important that we teach them how to manage emotions in the face of success as
well as failure and how to express them in an appropriate way by modelling the behavior
that we expect them to develop so that they will not become victims of emotions. This is
what will make them grow into confident, emotionally stable, and successful individuals.

TEJAS 2021-22 TEJAS 2021

MESSAGE FROM VICE-PRINCIPAL (Middle Wing) - IES, Kuwait

As this school year draws to a close, it is time to take stock of the impact of the pandemic on
students’ learning and well-being. Although the academic year 2020–21 is ending on a high
note—with rising vaccination rates, and access to at least some in-person learning for students
who chose on campus classes—it was, as a whole, perhaps one of the most challenging
experiences for educators, parents and most of all, the students. One analysis shows that the
impact of the pandemic on students’ learning was significant, leaving students on average five
months behind in Mathematics and four months behind in reading by the end of the school
year. The pandemic widened preexisting opportunity and achievement gaps, hitting students
hardest. The crisis had an impact on not just academics but also on the broader health and well-
being of students, with more than 35 percent of parents very or extremely concerned about their
children’s mental health. Students faced multiple schedule changes, were assigned new sections
mid-year, and struggled with glitchy internet connections and MS Teams fatigue.

As we have started inching towards a comeback and on campus classes, we are ready to face the
new challenges. Although it is too early to fully assess the effectiveness of post-pandemic solu-
tions to learning, the scope of action is already clear. The immediate imperative is not only to re-
open schools fully and recover unfinished learning but also to reimagine education systems for
the long term. Across all of these priorities it will be critical to take a holistic approach, listening
to students and parents and designing programs that meet academic and nonacademic needs
alike.

IES is all set to receive students in full capacity. Our staff has been trained to be able to handle
the changed scenario with full efficiency. Huge emphasis is being given to provide students with
comfortable class atmosphere where they can shed the social awkwardness that has crept in
while they were restricted to the online classes. Efforts are being made to assess the learning gap
and steps to bridge it. Academic proficiency has been the forte of IES, and we will do everything
with all our might to continue with it. During the pandemic also, we never left any stone
unturned to keep our students busy in curricular and co-curricular activities. We are continuing
with these with greater vigour. The challenge of bringing our students to the normal is being
taken head on by the school.

Parents at home are part of our team. We expect that they also show utmost patience while
handling kids who have gone through such a drastic change in their lifestyles. They
inadvertently were part of the struggles that the adults around them were involved in. Therefore,
they need a respite so that they can grow without any mental pressure. Give them time to play,
express themselves, let them share their hearts out, and listen to them without being judgmental.
After all, it is them that all the struggles in life are worth for.

Let us welcome the new academic year with a fresh approach, a new beginning because our
children deserve it.

Warm Regards

Mrs. Meenakshi Nayyar
Vice Principal
Middle Wing

Our Altered Lifestyle The Deadly Coronavirus
At the start of this year,
What makes us run away in fear? A huge problem became bigger,
A gun shot, you might say. It instilled a sense of fear,
But it isn’t needed anymore, That caused a worldwide trigger.
To make us flee horror,
For now, a sneeze is more than enough The trigger was pulled for a lockdown,
To scare us away. A phenomenon rare in its happening,
Economies slipped to a slowdown,
When do we buy masks? The countries had felt a nasty sting.
During a dust storm, you might say,
That too very rarely. People are dying every day,
But not anymore, And many being tested positive,
For a sneeze is more than enough, It’s showing no sign of going away,
To make us rush to the shop, The virus is ruthless, anti-supportive.
And buy as many masks as possible.
So, please stay at home till the end,
Look at the way our world has changed, And wash your hands regularly,
Look at the way this crisis has hit us hard, Don’t let its lifetime extend,
Our lifestyle has been altered, We must defeat the coronavirus as early.
All for our good,
Yet we can’t return to our normal life, Vismaya Vadana—12B
For we become so much used to trying to keep
ourselves safe.

DISTRESS OF FAUNA AND FLORA There was a flower in my garden,
A beautiful, colourful, and magical one,
Whenever the earth quakes, Its petals were heavy on the ground,
The forests shake. Its colours were so magical too.
When the storms attack forests
The crazy winds tear through the trees like a child The bright colours were bright as the sun,
tearing a piece of paper. That made my eyes glow at night.
When I touch it, it folds and goes?
Boom and the flames of a bushfire appear, As if it’s shy to see me
are the cause of the animals turned to ash here.
It’s as if nature wants, It dances in the day and sleeps at night,
To wipe away all But sad when the sun goes down.
Cleanse that we’ve soiled. At night I see its mighty glory,
The ability to glow like a star
The lions snarled when the trees rattled,
The sound of the crackling fire But on wings of mist, one day,
Trembled the trees It became a butterfly and away it flew.
When lions roared higher. I cried and asked, “Will you ever come back”?

As I listen to this in refrain, It answered “Maybe ......’
