Warm-Up

❖ Two laps around the court
❖ Extensive stretching before we start our activities

Steal the Bacon

❖ Skill Focus: Speed , Focus , Hand eye coordination, Agility
❖ Equipment: Basketball
❖ Space Requirement: Basketball court
❖ Rules: 3 people per team, class separates evenly on both sides of the court, I roll

the ball anywhere on the court, two teams of three have to run on the court to see
who gets the ball first and whoever gets it first has to try to go make a lay-up while
the opposite team plays defense .
❖ Time Needed: 30 minutes

Hopscotch Hoops

❖ Skill Focus: Balance, Hand Eye Coordination
❖ Equipment: Basketball, Hula-Hoops, Basketball Goals
❖ Space Requirement: Basketball court
❖ Rules: There will be hula-hoops placed in different places around the court, the objective

of the game is to jump into a hula-hoop and attempt to make the shot, if you make the
shot you get points, you only get one shot in each hula-hoop, the only way you can move to a
different hula-hoop is to jump, each hula-hoop will equal a certain amount of points, the
person with the most points at the end wins.
❖ Time Needed: 20 minutes

3 Legged Race

❖ Skill Focus: Balance , teamwork, agility
❖ Equipment: Leg Band
❖ Space Requirement: Half of a basketball court
❖ Rules: Divide the class into pairs, each player should stand next to their partner

and put his/her arm around his/her partner’s waist. The partners inside legs (the
right leg of the partner on the left and the left leg of the partner on the right)
should be touching. Tie the partners inside legs together so each pair has three
legs rather than four. Make start and finish line, have players line up at the start
line and at my signal they walk or run as fast as they can to the finish line.
❖ Time Needed: 10 minutes

Line Tag

❖Skill Focus: Locomotor and non-locomotor skills, spatial awareness, problem solving and critical thinking skills,
and agility.

❖Equipment: The lines on the basketball court, 2-3 pinnies
❖Space Requirement: A basketball court
❖Rules: Use the lines on the gymnasium floor to designate the playing area. These represent the roads that

the players can travel on. Choose 2-3 students to be taggers. All players must follow the lines on the gym
floor. You can travel in any direction on the line, but players are not allowed to jump to another line. To get
to another line players must continue until they come to an intersection with another line and then they can
follow that line. Taggers may reach out and tag other players who are not on their lines as long as the
taggers remain on the line they are traveling on. If tagged, the player becomes a temporary "road block".
The tagged player must lay across the line they were tagged on and perform an exercise ( count to 10, sit up,
push ups) for a designated amount of time. No one can move over a road block. If a player comes across a
road block they must turn around and go in another direction. Switch taggers every 1-2 minutes.
❖Time Needed: 30 minutes

Sack Race

❖ Skill Focus: Balance, Agility, Speed, Hand Eye Coordination
❖ Equipment: Sacks
❖ Space Requirement: Half of a basketball court
❖ Rules: Split the class into two teams, players will run to the sack, put both feet in and

begin hopping toward the finish line, players must keep both feet in sack and at least
one hand on the sack at all times. The sack must remain as close to the waist as
possible and should not fall below the knees. Pass the sack to next person in line and
keep going until somebody wins.
❖ Time Needed: 10 minutes

Funky Chicken

❖ Skill Focus: Speed, Listening, Agility
❖ Equipment: Rubber Chicken, Gym Mat
❖ Space Requirement: Half of a Basketball Court
❖ Rules: There will be two teams, both teams will be mirroring each other while laying on their

stomachs, I will give both teams numbers to remember most likely 1-10, there will be a
rubber chicken in between both teams, when I call out a number it should be one person from
each team running to get the chicken, you only get up if your number is called, whoever grabs
the chicken has to make it back to there spot without getting tagged, if you get tagged the
other team gets the point but if you make it back to your spot your team gets the point.
❖ Time Needed: 30 minutes

Scatter Ball

❖ Skill Focus: Team Building, Speed, Focus
❖ Equipment: Dodgeballs , Pinnies
❖ Space Requirement: Whole Gym
❖ Rules: The class will be split into two teams the teams are allowed to scatter

throughout the whole gym as there are no sides for this game. Balls are thrown at
opponents to tag them. If a player is tagged by a ball they must sit down where they
were tagged, if you hit somebody in the head your out. In order to join the game again
players must be thrown a ball by one of their teammates or grab a ball that is within
arms reach. Game continues until a set time determined by the coach or until one whole
team is seated.
❖ Time Needed: 30 minutes

Gaga Ball

❖ Skill Focus: Hand eye Coordination, Speed

❖ Equipment: Dodgeball

❖ Space Requirement: Gaga Pit
❖ Rules: The game begins when a chosen player holds the ball and yells, “Ga!” The other plays respond

with, “Ga!” to indicate they are ready. Then the ball is thrown up in the air, when the ball bounces once,
it is considered “live” and play begins. Players hit the ball at the other players while using their hands
to block. If a player is hit on the legs , the opposite person catches it , they are out. If you hit someone
in the head you are out!! If a player “double hits” the ball, they are out. The ball may be hit again if the
player bounces it off the wall. Players removed from the game stand on the outside of the playing area.
Continue removing eliminated players, until only two players remain. These two players have a showdown
to see who wins the game. Holding the ball is still not allowed, although the final two players go at it
until somebody gets hit.

Red Rover

❖ Skill Focus: Effort , listening , focus

❖ Equipment: N/A
❖ Space Requirement: Half of a basketball court
❖ Rules: Split into two teams, should be a good amount of space in between, the teams

will link together with either their arms or hands, one team is going to say “red rover
red rover let (players name) come over” that player has to run over to the other
team and try to break the chain ( their arms or hands). If you break the chain then
you get to take the two peoples link to the chain you broke and bring them back to
your team but if you don't break it you become a part of the other team and you just
keep doing this until there's no more people on one team.
❖ Time Needed: 30 minutes

Capture the Flag

❖Skill Focus: Teamwork , Speed
❖Equipment: 2 “Flags” (can be rubber chickens, pinnies…etc.). Pinnies to distinguish teams, Cones

to mark boundaries.
❖Space Requirement: Gym
❖Rules: Split the kids into 2 even teams, the half court line will divide the teams. On each side,

use the cones to mark off an area where the flag will go . Place the flag in the middle of the
circle.The object of the game is to steal the other team’s flag and bring it over the center line
to your side without getting tagged. Anyone who is on the other team’s side, and is tagged by a
member of that team, MUST drop the flag and go back to their side, touch the wall and try
again, you cannot pass/throw the flag to another member of your team. Each time a team
successfully steals the flag, the teams will switch sides.

Scooter Hoop Relay

❖ Skill Focus: Speed, Hand Eye Coordination
❖ Equipment: Scooter, Basketball, Basketball Goal
❖ Space Requirement: Basketball Court
❖ Rules: Divide class into two teams, the two teams are mirroring each other in a straight

line under the baskets, the first player of each team grabs the scooter rides it to the
other side of the court, puts the scooter down, grabs the basketball, makes a layup get
back on the scooter, rides it back to their teammates and the next person does the same
thing until one of the teams win.
❖ Time Needed: 25 minutes

Freeze Dance

❖ Skill Focus: Listening, Rhythm
❖ Equipment: Radio , Speaker
❖ Space Requirement: Half of a basketball court
❖ Rules: Doesn't matter how many players it is, the coach plays music as the music is

playing the players have to dance, when the music stops the players have to freeze if
you are still moving after the music stops you're out and you keep going until someone
wins.
❖ Time Needed: 15 minutes
