Kingwood Still Recovering From Harvey
By: Meredith York
On August 27, 2017 Hurricane Harvey hit Kingwood and to this day some people are still recovering from the massive flood.
Harvey stayed over Kingwood for 3 days. Inside and out of Kingwood 13 million people were affected. At the local Torchy's
Tacos in the H.E.B. strip center the water got as high as 7 ½ feet, but that didn't stop them from reopening December 18 of
that year. Some people are just now getting sheetrock put in and it's a whole year later. In Kingwood, the city and its people
according to Google may have spent over 200 billion dollars. I asked the manager at Torchy's Tacos how hurricane Harvey
affected the business. “We were closed for four months. We had to work in the Woodlands every day.” Says the manager
Chris Forshee at Torchy's Tacos in Kingwood Texas.
On the other hand some people don't even have a bathtub. Like Linda Pearce, a local retired principal. “We are in the house
but we don't have a kitchen sink, stove, or bathtub. We are not 100% just yet.” Says Linda Pearce, instead of remodeling
some people just sold their house and bought a new house in a higher neighborhood. Like Linda Martin a local citizen who
sold her house. “We sold the house because we just didn't want to go through another flood like Harvey.”
So in conclusion some people had a easier time recovering but others needed more time. Kingwood has come a long way in
a year and we definitely have changed for the better. Harvey made us come together to help each other and be there for each
other.

students’ shoulders that pulls them down and can make them anxious.
Although some students struggle with the daily task of homework, other students
consider it to be a helpful way to have extra practice outside of the classroom. “I
think Homework can be helpful” says a 7th grader in all Pre-AP classes. “Any
work you don’t get done in class you can work on at home”. Many Creekwood
Colts believe that Homework should be optional and not required but others
believe that even though it can take a long time to complete it is totally worth the
effort. “Homework helps me understand the lessons and principals being taught”
claims a 6th grader in Ms.Pangarakis’ class. “Although it takes a long time to
complete I still have plenty of time to hang out with my family and friends and
do extra curricular activities” In the end Homework can be stressful but overall is
a great way to have extra practice outside of the classroom.

that, you’re ready to play. Try to eat healthy to optimize your strength and speed. And one more
thing, come to the practice, scrimmage, and games with your A game. Play with heart and power.
Give it all you have in you.
Always be ready to do push-ups and grass drills. Conditioning is important to the coaches so if
you want a spot on the B or A team, do the best push-ups of your life. There is a lot of competition,
so try your best and do everything you can to help your body and the coaches.
Ok and the last part. REMEMBER THE LITTLE THINGS. The coaches will smash that into
your head and make you do push-ups on the go if you don’t. We’ve been pounded with up-downs
because we forget to clean out the locker room. Just do the little things and everything else we’ve
told you and you will be ready to be an A team starter. Now if you’re still reading, you should
probably sign up now. But I have a treat for you.
We will be interviewing a fellow football player. We asked first, do your teammates like you? He
also said they enjoy when he’s on the field and he helps. We then asked, do they think you do as
well as you would like to? he said he could do better than he is doing” we asked three simple
questions after number one was does he like football, he said obviously, then, what do you play,
he said he played kicker and O line. Finally we asked him, do you like your team, and he said he
really enjoyed them. So that’s his answers to my questions. Well, we hope you’re sold on being
a football star.
