MVMF adopted a Strategic Plan with four strategic areas of focus
three years ago. Since then, MVMF has made significant strides
with each of the metrics. This Annual Report provides 2019
updates on progress in each of these areas.

MISSION The mission of Minnesota Veterinary
AND IMPACT Medical Foundation (MVMF) is to provide
scholarships and educational grants to
benefit animal health and ensure the
future of veterinary medicine.

POPULATION MVMF seeks to bolster the future of the
SERVED veterinary community across Minnesota
through scholarships and grants.
Scholarships are awarded to DVM and
post-graduate students at the University
of Minnesota, and veterinary technicians
at Vermilion College, Ridgewater College,
Rochester Community and Technical
College, and Dakota County Technical
College. For some scholarships, priority
is given to those living in a certain region
in Minnesota or who graduated from a
Minnesota high school.
Grants are awarded to a variety of nonprofit
organizations and foundations, student
groups, professional organizations, and
individuals, that have programs or resources
that benefit the veterinary community
and/or animal health in Minnesota.
MVMF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization
created to serve as the philanthropic
partner of the Minnesota Veterinary
Medical Association.

FUNDRAISING

Raising funds through planned giving, events, and contributions
is an essential component that powers the MVMF mission. Five
annual fundraising events enable MVMF to generate income
throughout the year.

Silent Auction and Drawing

The 29th annual Silent Auction, Drawing (including $200 Club),
and Wine Pull at the February 2019 MVMA Annual Meeting raised
a net income of $17,281. This was down a little from the previous
year with less people but still MANY $200 Club participants,
55 people showed their support by joining the Club.

Annual Campaign

Running from April through June, the Annual Campaign is
a chance for donors to have their contribution matched.
Contributions from individuals reached $40,629. Combined
with a generous donation from Arrowhead Veterinary Medical
Association and a match from the MVMA, the Annual Campaign
raised a record $84,629, far exceeding the goal of $55,000 set by
the MVMF Board of Directors.

Golf Classic

The 25th annual Golf Classic was held in June for the first time
ever at The Wilds in Prior Lake, MN. Sponsorship was back up
to $55,000, and we had 135 golfers who participated and were
generous in their contributions. Overall the event had a net income
of $49,540 and we are striving towards $1,000,000 in NET REVENUE
by the conclusion of the 26th Annual this coming July 16.

Clay Shoot

The 10th annual Clay Shoot took place on September 19, 2019
at Wild Marsh Sporting Clays in Clear Lake Township, MN. 133
shooters registered for the event and went above and beyond to
support MVMF during the games, raffles, and live auction. Although
sponsorship was down, the event had a net income of $57,940.

Give to the Max

Minnesota’s largest giving day is an important opportunity for
MVMF to reach out to the public, spreading awareness beyond the
veterinary community of MVMF’s work. This year’s campaign again
focused on making dreams come true for veterinary students. Thanks
to a match provided by MVMF Board of Directors, a Facebook post to
give to memorialize Dr. Larissa Minicucci and the SIRVS organization
that she championed through MVMF, this year’s Give to the Max
brought in $17,243 and engaged many new donors.

Pet Memorial Cards

MVMF’s pet memorial card program is a fantastic way for clinics
to show their sympathy for a client who has lost a pet, and honor
the pet and client through a contribution to MVMF. Hundreds of
contributions are made to MVMF each year through pet memorial
cards and contributions made in memory of pets and people.

GIVING

$118,685 worth of dreams came true in 2019 through MVMF
scholarships and grants. Additionally, thanks to 2 very generous
donations; one from Dr. Dick Reierson and his wife Jeanne the MVMF
has established the Dr. Dick Reierson Veterinary Dental Scholarship
which will distribute 3 - $12,000 scholarships in 2020 and an annual
travel grant and one from Dr. L. Kern Schwartz ‘s estate has established
the Kern and Jean Schwartz Food Production Scholarship. Additionally,
donors continue to contribute to the AEVS Legacy Fund and Past
Presidents Fund, which will produce scholarships as the funds grow.
MVMF strives to increase the number and value of scholarships, and to
review the grant award process. For more information about becoming

PUBLIC AND PROFESSIONAL AWARENESS

MVMF works to engage those within the veterinary community as
well as the general public. This is done through events, fundraising
campaigns, storytelling, and marketing.

Education at the Fair

MVMF’s largest public-facing event is the Minnesota State Fair.
The MVMF supports two educational exhibits: the Miracle of Birth
Center and the Surgery Suite. Each year the MVMF has a poster at
the Miracle of Birth Center explaining MVMF’s work and mission.
Per State Fair policies, MVMF is not allowed to collect donations at
the exhibits, but they serve as key avenues for public awareness.

GOVERNANCE

MVMF seeks to develop high performing leaders as an effective
way to continue to advance MVMF’s mission. These allies
champion MVMF’s mission, promote the Foundation at events,
and ensure the strategic plan is prioritized.

Board of Directors

In 2019 the MVMF board grew to 13 members. The Board consists
of no less than 50% veterinarian majority. Directors serve a
maximum of two consecutive three year terms. The Board has its
annual meeting in conjunction with MVMA’s Annual Meeting in
February each year, and additionally meets quarterly.
