OFF BALANCE ON PURPOSE

The challenges of COVID and worldwide disruption have tested everyone and
revealed how quickly everything can shift. We’re working differently, living dif-
ferently, and have experienced enormous challenges. We also have found new
strengths, abilities, and greater appreciation for what truly matters.

Uncertainty remains. Change will accelerate. Dan Thurmon believes the reason
so many struggle is due to a desire to “achieve balance,” and the enormous
frustration of never being able to attain it. Dan teaches, “You’ll never achieve

page 1 www.smisupplychainevents.com

perfect balance because balance is not what you get. It’s what you do.” Instead of trying to com-
partmentalize life, Dan will help you connect your five “spheres of influence” to increase your
personal capacity and unique contributions. In this way, you’ll be able to grow and succeed
during the continuing changes to come.

Dan amplifies lessons with powerful illustrations, exciting stunts, and meaningful examples. This
is a presentation that will uplift you immediately and provide memorable insights and tools for
years to come.

As a result of attending this program attendees will:
Know how to leverage the positive aspects of uncertainty to their benefit.

Have a system to better align personal growth with professional excellence.

Feel more excited, encouraged, and confident about the future and their role in making it happen.

SMI EXECUTIVE EXCHANGES
THE EVOLUTION OF THE HEALTHCARE SUPPLY CHAIN: NOW TO 2030

The healthcare market has been undergoing significant changes over the past decade. Then
COVID-19 emerged and caused massive disruptions that put existing supply chains under im-
mense pressure and brought weaknesses into sharp relief. Over the next decade, the healthcare
supply chain will continue to evolve and likely at a more rapid pace. As top leaders in this indus-
try, SMI members are uniquely positioned to define the future of the healthcare supply chain,
lead the transformation, and shape a legacy for the industry. L.E.K. Consulting will provide us
with some insights to guide discussion on this important topic, and members will share and
brainstorm ideas to drive the industry to a new and improved model.

TOM HUGHES COLLABORATION AWARD CEREMONY
10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY AWARDS

Let’s celebrate and remember Tom Hughes by recognizing some members
who exemplify the value of collaboration in our industry. We will name the
first Tom Hughes Collaboration Award winners and will also honor mem-
bers celebrating 10 years of membership in SMI. It will be a great way to
start off an afternoon filled with the collaboration and networking that Tom
valued so much.

THE FUTURE OF COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS – THE VESTED WAY

The 21st century demands businesses innovate, create value, and get sustainable results. But is
there a secret sauce? Author, educator and business consultant Kate Vitasek will kick off the af-
ternoon with an evocative program sharing five simple “rules” that – when applied – can change
the nature of how organizations work creating highly collaborative relationships that unlock val-
ue. Vitasek will share the real stories and real results of how organizations
are using a Vested approach to achieve award-winning results by redefining
how they “win” in their business relationships.

BARRIER BUSTING INTERACTIVE SESSION

Vested sounds great, but now what? Join Kate Vitasek for her famous Bar-
rier Busting session and see if you can “Stump the Expert”. Participants will
talk in small groups about the ideas they learned in the Kate’s presentation
and challenge themselves (and each other) to think about how Vested relationships are, indeed,
achievable. They will identify barriers that might prevent successful relationships like this from
developing and then share the barriers they have identified with Kate who will tell us real stories
about how other organizations have busted the barrier and achieved higher-level collaborative
relationships. This will be a fun and high energy session where we can all figure out how to put
what we’ve learned into action.

SMI2U WORKSHOPS

Come together with your fellow SMI members to dive deep into key issues. There will be plenty
of time for brainstorming and learning together as SMI members share their stories and offer
discussion questions that will help get to new answers and approaches. Please prioritize your
choices, and then we will assign workshops to make sure that we have balanced numbers of
Providers and Industry Partners for each session. Here are the workshop options:

WORKSHOP 1

THROUGH THE STORM: SUPPLY CHAIN STRATEGIES TO IMPLEMENT
BEFORE THE NEXT EMERGENCY

The healthcare supply chain has weathered many storms,
but most would agree that none were greater than the
COVID-19 pandemic. Join this workshop for an informa-
tion-gathering session to discuss and evaluate some of
the top supply chain strategies that kept our hospitals
operating efficiently these past 18 months. SMI members
will talk through lessons learned and work together to
compile a list of best practices that will be shared with the
industry.

Key take-aways:

Building a network of resources to create collaborative support across healthcare organiza-
tions

Anticipating and avoiding predictable disruptions

Controlling inventory visibility and cash flow

WORKSHOP 2

DELIVERING ON THE PROMISE: REMOVING BARRIERS TO MAXIMIZ-
ING USE OF THE UDI

Learn how the AHRMM Learning UDI Community (LUC)
built upon the SMI recall initiative to develop actionable
recommendations that can work in tandem with the
FDA’s technology modernization efforts to improve the
efficiency and efficacy of UDI implementation and use.
We will brainstorm ideas to continue to expand the use of
UDI-DI to drive efficiency in the healthcare supply chain
and discuss current barriers to the successful use of data
standards.

Key take-aways:

Understand what SMI members can do to mobilize industry wide advocacy efforts with Govern-
ment agencies and Congress to modernize infrastructure and maximize utilization of the UDI

Gain insight on the efforts currently underway to maximize current investments and expand
adoption of the UDI

Learn how the technology developed and lessons learned from implementing the GUDID
can be applied to develop a new, automated recall system

WORKSHOP 3

THE CONTINUING EVOLUTION OF THE RECALL PROCESS –
FOCUSING ON EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

As we all know, recall communication
continues to be a challenge for both
suppliers and providers in the health-
care industry. Information comes late,
it’s incomplete, and responding to a
recall can be complex and challeng-
ing. Join this session learn about some
transformative results that have been
achieved through a collaboration ef-
fort piloted by several providers and
suppliers. Then use the power of SMI
members to brainstorm and explore
ways the industry can further change the recall process to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and
patient safety.

Key take-aways:

Gain clarity on inefficiencies and challenges of all elements of the recall communication
process

Learn about some best practices that your organization (both providers and suppliers) can
activate to drive improvement

Leave the session with a new vision for recall communication

WORKSHOP 4

VENDOR CREDENTIALING – IS ANYONE HAPPY?

Presenters will provide an
overview of Vendor Creden-
tialing and opportunities for
improvement based on the
SMI survey of June 28, 2021.
Participants will collaborate
to create “happier” solutions
for everyone and arrive at 3
action items to move forward
towards standardized and
interoperable credentialing.

Key take-aways:
Why supplier credentialing is important and how it can be improved

What we need to do to increase compliance and achieve greater efficiency

How we can work together to align to standards, eliminate waste, and increase compliance

SMI THOUGHT LEADERSHIP COUNCILS

Join the discussion with these new, ongo-
ing Councils that will help drive industry
priorities and transformation over the
coming years. SMI announced the Councils
with sign-ups via email at the end of July. If
you signed up for a specific Council, then
you will attend that session. If you’re still
exploring, pick a Council that interests you
and join the conversation. The four Coun-
cils are:

Diversity and Inclusion

Collaboration

Resilience and Transparency

Clinical Integration

Councils will focus on best practices, trends, and will identify key topics for SMI initiatives. These
teams are an important new way to connect with your fellow SMI members and lead the health-
care supply chain forward.
