Winona Cargile Alexander - Marsha Wright James

Portfolio for Marsha

Marsha W. James

Founder Cargile Alexander was committed to hard work, helping others
and community service. Since my initiation in April of 2002, I’ve
committed myself to service, helping others and working hard to ensure
that all projects I commit to in Delta and the community are brought to
fruition. I have experienced uninterrupted service and am a Diamond Life
Member as well as a Delta Dear.

I chaired the Jabberwock Committee at a time when the chapter was
honoring African American Women in the Miami-Dade Community for
committed service. In addition, I chaired the 2006-2009 and 2011-2014
Sub Debutante Programs where at least 100 young ladies participated in
the 2 (two) three-year programs. The sub debutante parents entrusted the
Miami Alumnae Chapter under my leadership to guide them through self-
esteem, financial planning/budget and finance, cultural and bonding
programs and activities with the goal of presentation at the chapter’s
Signature Program, Debutante Cotillion.

MIAMI ALUMNAE COMMITMENT & IMPACT: Assistant Financial Secretary, May Week, Cooking Gents,
Budget and Finance, Poinsettia Gala, Debutante’s 10, 11 and 12 grades, Founders Day (Co-Chair, and Chair),
Delta Dear, Sub Debutante Task Force (Chair) and Jabberwock. I have also served on the Regional Leadership
Team as a member of the Awards & Recognition Committee. Representing Miami Alumnae as a presenter at
Clusters, Regional Conferences and National Conventions. As a member of the finance committee, I updated the
Debutante Collection and Individual Deb form, so fees could be shared confidentially with the parents. I have
served as a member of the Advisory Council of Zeta Tau Chapter from 2004 - present.

COMMITTEE SERVICE
My service goes beyond the chapter. I am a member of the Miami Northwestern Senior High Alumni
Association, serving as the Class of 1969 president and member on the Alumni President’s Council. I served on
the NHS 50th Anniversary Committee, co-chairing the Souvenir Journal and Scholarship Committees. In 2017,
I was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame for Educational Service to the community. I am currently serving
as President of the Class of 1969, where I successfully organized the 50th Class Reunion in 2019. One hundred
thirty plus persons attended, some attending for the first since 1969, leading to a successful reunion weekend.

•All activities pictured have provided
me opportunities to place Miami
Alumnae Chapter in the forefront,
through my leadership and
participation. Several programs that I
chaired were featured in the Miami
Herald. These articles and participation
from Sub-Debs, parents, and the
community in Miami-Dade and Broward
County highlighted Miami Alumnae’s
Public Service involvement.
