I love rock-n-roll music. I love country music. I love Jazz, classical and the occasional reggae, and sometimes, you will catch me listening to Hawaiian music. Music is something that can bring people together, become a movement, and break down barriers. Music has been known to describe a generation and rightly so. If you grew up in the 60/70s, and can remember, it was a time of change. It was a time of peace, love, and war all at the same time. If you grew up in the 80s, you remember hair bands and metal. If you grew up in the 90s and beyond, I don’t really know what that music is all about, so we will stick to what I know, and I know that 60/70/80s music had lyrics that had meaning and soul. Whether it was jazz, country, or reggae, it was a time to express the written word through music. Heck, the Jesus movement was happening through the 70s and as people were looking for a new hope and a new way, Christian rock became a thing, and it is still going strong today. I am always listening to some type of music, and occasionally, I find a song that still has meaning today. The other day, I was in the gym and had my genre set to country rock classics, and right in the middle of a shoulder press, the song “a few more rednecks” by Charlie Daniels came on. I had a moment. I listened to the words and hit replay a couple times. Again an oldie, but a goodie by an artist that made a statement wherever he went, and he was proud to be a Christian. He created an amazing gospel album that sits at the top of my collection. He was proud of his faith, proud of his country, and proud of his association as an American. His music helped people stand up for what they believed in and to not be ashamed of their faith, their flag, or their country. He writes: “What this world needs is a few more rednecks - Some people ain’t afraid to take a stand, What this world needs is a little more respect - For the Lord and the law and the workin’ man, We could use a little peace and satisfaction - Some good people up front to take the lead, A little less talk and a little more action - And a few more rednecks is what we need…” Witnessing what is going on in this great country of ours today and back when Charlie was writing this song, I believe it to be more relevant today than ever before. What Charlie is talking about is taking action! Standing up for what you believe in! To stand up and be counted! Be courageous in your faith, your patriotism, and your stand. Too many of us have big words, yet small shoes. We point the finger-yet lack the courage to lead the way. We need people who aren’t afraid of standing for the truth and what is right – Yes, as Charlie sings, “I keep a Bible on my table - I got a flag out on my lawn, And I don’t believe in mindin’ – no one’s business but my own”. There is not a day that goes by that the American Flag is up and flying proud in front of my house. You can also find a bible in my house, my home office, my business office, in my briefcase, and on both of my phones. I am proud of that flag, and I am not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God and it brings power to everyone who believes. I want to challenge you. First Challenge: I want to challenge every red-blooded American Biker that reads this article to get a flag flying in your yard! Hang it from a tree, tie it to your porch, put it in your window, or hang it from your roof. I don’t care how you do it, if you are an American, you should be flying that flag. Second Challenge: Get yourself a bible. If you cannot afford a bible, send me a note, and I will find you a bible. If nothing else, the bible app is free on your phone. Then you can make sure I am giving you the right scriptures at the bottom of the articles I write. Third Challenge: Take a picture of yourself holding your bible (or bible app) in front of your flag and send it into Stan and Terri for the month of May. Do it yourself, with a group, or with your club. Then Stan and Terri can collect all the pictures and create a page showing what we believe in…God Bless all the Rednecks! (What most people call a redneck, Ain’t nothin’ but a workin’ man. -C. Daniels) Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes...” (NLT) Pastor Johnny Lujan Thunder Road Church (916) 521-5706 / Johnny@ thunderroadchurch.com / www.thunderroadchurch.com Thunder Roads Magazine® Northern California 6

EVENT EVENT Thunder Roads Magazine® Northern California 7

RIDE DESTINATION Oakley - Mt Hamilton - Livermore Rio Vista Bridge W ell, the weather didn’t get a whole lot better last month. Up against the deadline, we made the decision to hit some roads we had ridden in the past. Because of impending rainy conditions, we would travel in the cage. We did add a few different stops though - from previous trips. We started this adventure by getting out on Jefferson Blvd (84) and heading South down towards Rio Vista. It’s pretty wide open with all the farms in the area. Not a lot to see. The scenery does get better when you make it to the Sacramento River. A little farther up Mt Hamilton Rd Mines Rd Thunder Roads Magazine® Northern California 8

CONTINUED... the road you’ll run into the Real McCoy Ferry. We generally come this way just to ride that ferry. It runs every 20 minutes on the hour, and it’s free. If you have a little more time, you can also get to the ferry by way of E. Ryer Rd. It runs right along Steamboat Slough. An even nicer way to go! Crossing back over the river on the Rio Vista Bridge, we made our way South (160) over the Antioch Bridge into Oakley. We hadn’t eaten yet, so we pulled into the Driftwood Marina where the Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot Restaurant and Bar (www. wtfrestaurantbargrill.com) is located. If you’re down this way, definitely check it out. Nice atmosphere, good food and an establishment that honors all our country’s service personnel. Fueled up, we continued South to East 4/Vasco Rd. This route took us to 580W and then over to and back on 84. Once on 84, you’re back out in the open hill country. Calaveras Rd is next up. This road and later Mt. Hamilton Rd (130) are certainly among my top ten twisty roads. It meanders through a mostly tree covered canopy with plenty of tight 10-20mph turns. You’ll also enjoy some nice views of the Calaveras Reservoir as you pass through. An impressive two-laner (Watch out for those on bicycles. There were many.) Eventually you will come to a T at Felter Rd. If you haven’t had enough, go left and you come out near Piedmont Hills. Go right and you end up in Milpitas. That is where we spent the night - more precisely, the Best Western Brookside Inn. This is one of the nicer BWs we’ve stayed at. Pool, Lounge, close to everything and plenty of nearby restaurants. So, we checked in, hung out for awhile and then walked over to Denny’s Restaurant for dinner. While eating, I noticed this robot looking thing rolling around. Sure enough, it is a Hal! It can deliver food and then bring you your check when you’re finished. The Real McCoy Ferry Vasco Rd Bike Rider Memorial Off Mines Rd Arroyo Mocho Rev Lauratine Hamilton WTF Poster WTF Sign Thunder Roads Magazine® Northern California 9

It happened to be busy elsewhere when our dinner was ready, so our human waiter brought it to us. But it did bring us our check and politely did so. I inquired and I guess it won’t be too long before you’ll be able to pay the Robot directly. Beware though. There is an X-Files TV episode where Mulder doesn’t tip at this AI restaurant because of bad service. Hal and his Robot buddies keep tracking him down and threatening him until he gives up the tip. Kind of a freaky show. There were no human beings in this episode other than Mulder and Scully. So, we woke up the next morning and as we anticipated, it was raining. Glad we didn’t ride. Going up Mt. Hamilton Road is formidable in good weather, let alone while it’s raining. Making our way over to 130, we started our ascent. If you are in the mood for a fine meal in Mt Hamilton, not very far up is the Grand View Restaurant (www.grandviewsanjose.com) Not only do they have an excellent menu, in the evenings, the view down into the Santa Clara Valley is spectacular! Mt. Hamilton Road could be called the “Tail of the Dragon” of the West Coast. 365 turns in a 19-mile stretch. That doesn’t count going down the backside. I rode the ‘Tail’ a few years ago and, while very impressive, I believe this section of 130 is a bit more of a challenge. It’s amazing how many tight turns you encounter. Why so many? The original road was built in 1875-76 in order to supply building materials and such to the planned observatory. In order to allow the horses and carts of the day to make it up, they had to keep the grade as reasonable as possible. The grade rarely exceeds 6.5%. A little later, we made it up to the Lick Observatory, but it was closed that day. With the rain, low-lying clouds, and fog it wasn’t as nice a trip up as in the past. Still beautiful, nonetheless. Going down the backside isn’t quite as technical, but there are still plenty of turns to negotiate. Reaching San Antonio Valley, we continued on Mines Road up to Tesla Road. Hadn’t been on Mines Road before and it turned Garre Cafe Lick Observatory out to be rather nice. Lots of curves and sweepers as you pass through a pleasant valley. Our last stop was for lunch at the Garre Vineyards and Café in Livermore (www.garrewinery.com) This cozy place was a nice little find. More of a fine dining menu, but very reasonable. I had Nonna’s Meatballs and the Jambalaya, and Cindy had the Portobello Mushroom Sandwich. And that fine lunch got us home just nicely. Later! J ennifer Belle is an American singersongwriter. She was born and raised in Castro Valley, where she found her passion for preforming at a young age. The people she idolized the most were Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, Shania Twain, Stevie Nicks, Martina McBride, and Patsy Cline. She has always had a flair with incredible vocal range and diverse genres which allowed her to combine dance, theater, and acting into major appearances from the West Coast to the East Coast. Jennifer loves the aspect of storytelling in country music, so she took the leap and began writing her own. She was honored to work with other songwriters out of Nashville. Jennifer Belle was nominated for both NMA “New Country Artist of the Year,” and the “New Country Breakthrough Artist of the Year!” The nominations are major triumphs, making her “officially” recognized as one of hottest, new female country artist in 2023. WE WANT YOUR BIKE! TRADE IN OR CASH OUT!

If You Can See What I Can See … You Might Be Riding on the Back of a Harley Get Away to Bodega Bay Shoreline Hwy CA-1 We live in a wonderful part of Northern California where we can easily ride to many cool places. To name a few, Tahoe, Reno, San Francisco, Bodega Bay are just a few hours away from home. We often get a hankering to ride the Pacific Coast. Bodega Bay, here we come. This little fishing village with a population of less than 1,000 people has plenty of coastline to entertain us. Planning a weekend stay at the Bodega Harbor Inn, I called to see if a room is available. George, the manager of this cute place, knows his regular customers and assures he will hold a room for us. This charming little 1950’s motel is remodeled and comfortable. Open the windows if you need AC. The ocean breeze will cool your room. If you are on a motorcycle, keep in mind the parking lot is gravel. Save time in the late afternoon to sit in the backyard and watch the sun as it sets over the bay. We jumped on I-80 early in the afternoon, hoping to beat the terrible traffic. I am afraid beating traffic is no longer an option. Fortunately, it is easier to maneuver through when you are on a bike. Especially if you lane split. At Dixon, we came upon the Milk Farm Road exit and sign. Still recognized as a city landmark, the sign takes me back to fond CA-1N to Bodega Bay Motel Ocean View Thunder Roads Magazine® Northern California 16

CONTINUED... memories of the 1960’s. On family road trips with my parents, our first stop was always a visit at the Milk Farm Restaurant. The land and the sign are all that remain of those days gone by. Turning off I-80 at Vallejo, merging onto CA-37W, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom sits across from the Solano County Fairgrounds. This active community landmark has been entertaining families since 1986. Look closely at the metal structure visible from the road. Watch as a roller coaster train moves to the top of a steep slope and quickly takes a 150-foot drop down the other side of the track. You are likely to hear screams of excitement coming from the amusement ride. A few miles just before approaching Sonoma Raceway (formerly Sears Point), is the San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge. In response to rapidly disappearing wetlands, the refuge was created to protect migratory birds, wetland habitat and endangered species. Human activity has drastically changed the marshlands, affecting the ability to accept winter rainfall and purify water in the bay. When the tide lowers, the land becomes a mudflat exuding a pungent sulfuric odor, often described as rotten egg. The odor is decaying matter, including marsh grass, fish and animals underlying the thick mud. The wind is always blowing over this open flatland. When the tide water level is high, waves are choppy and tall marsh grass sways gently with the wind. Riders beware; now you know the smell is not rotten eggs. Still on CA-37W, turn onto Hwy 116 also known as Lakeville Highway in Sonoma County. Ride through Petaluma and merge onto US-101N. We took a few turns that led us to the corner of Stony Point and Roblar Roads, where we stopped at the historic Washoe House. Built in 1859, the 165-year-old two-story building is rich with CA-1 Wild Pampas Grass Working Dairy Wildflowers Colorful Flowers Ocean View Working Ranch Thunder Roads Magazine® Northern California 17

California history. Formerly used as a Stage Coach stop between Petaluma and Bodega, multiple generations of locals and visitors have enjoyed a meal here. Many of the early patrons had come west because of the big gold strike in 1849. In case they were not so lucky, miners would write their name on bills and pin the money to the ceiling. This was to insure money would be waiting for them when they returned. The tradition of sticking money or other things to the ceiling has lasted through time. Today it is motorcycle riders who leave something on the ceiling. If you stop here, be sure to leave your dollar on the ceiling. We finished lunch and got back on the bikes, taking Roblar Road to Valley Ford. Local dairies surround this small town with cattle meandering on green rolling hills. Valley Ford Road becomes CA-1N also known as Shoreline Highway. Colonies of wild pampas grass and colorful wildflowers are in the hills and on the sides of the road. Beautiful to look at, the wild pampas grass is an invasive plant that displaces native plants. The sharp leaf blades that are not desired habitat or food for birds and other wildlife. Huge cypress trees are windswept and shaped by the powerful wind that comes from the ocean. Our ride brings us to the shoreline that gives the highway its name. We rode the rest of the way on CA-1N to Bodega Ave. Upon reaching our destination, welcome smiles greeted us as we checked into the motel. Wanting to take a walk, we went down the street to do a little shopping and check out the beach. Back at the motel, brightly colored Adirondack chairs gathered on the lawn were calling our names. We decided on a ride back to Valley Ford for an early dinner at Dinucci’s Restaurant. A converted early 1900’s hotel is home to the family style restaurant that serves authentic home-style Italian food. The Dinucci’s bought the building in 1939, did some remodel, rented out rooms and started serving family style meals. The Wagner’s bought the business in 1968. Their family still owns Dinucci’s, just passed down three generations. Pretty much for all this time, their motto has been, “If it isn’t broken don’t change it.” They still serve food prepared with fresh ingredients using their secret family recipes. Everyone had a good time eating and laughing in a comfortable environment. We made it back to the motel in time to watch the sunset over the ocean. Grabbing our chairs, we sat around a simple campfire made by using a small round open barbecue. The ocean breeze, lapping of the water and more laughter made for a relaxing evening at the end of a great day riding. Tomorrow we ride to Sebastopol to see the Junk Art that decorates the town. Ride and have Fun. Article and photos contributed by Cyndee Reed Van Hooser Junk Art Thunder Roads Magazine® Northern California 18

A woman from New York was driving thru a remote part of Arizona when her car broke down. An American Indian on horseback came along and offered her a ride to the nearest town. He held out his hand and let her get situated riding behind him on his horse, and off they rode. The ride was uneventful, except that every few minutes the Indian would let out an extremely loud YeeeeeeeHawwww!! so loud in fact that it echoed from the surrounding hills and canyon walls. When they arrived in town, he let her off at the local service station, yelled one final YeeeeeeHawwww!!, and rode off. “What did you do to get that Indian so excited?” asked the service station owner. “Nothing at all,” replied the woman. “I merely sat behind him on the horse, put my arms around his waist and held onto the saddle horn so I wouldn’t fall off.” The station owner looked at her, shook his head and said, “Ma’am, Indians don’t use saddles.” YeeeeeeHawwww!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friend: So what are you up to today? Me: Drinking & pole dancing. Friend: Oh, so coffee and mopping the floor. Me: Yep, hot mom chit. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With a very seductive voice a wife asked her husband “Have you ever seen $20 all crumpled up?” “No” said her husband, wondering where this was going. She gave him a sexy little smile, unbuttoned the top three buttons of her blouse and slowly reached down in her cleavage created by a soft, silky pushup bra and pulled out a crumpled twenty dollar bill. He took the crumpled bill from her and smiled approvingly. She then asked “Have you ever seen $100 all crumpled up?” “No I have not” he said, an anxious tone in his voice. She gave him another sexy little smile, pulled up her skirt, seductively reached into her tight sheer panties and pulled out a crumpled fifty dollar bill. He took the crumpled bill and started breathing a little quicker with anticipation. “Now” she said “Have you ever seen $50,000 all crumpled up?” “No way!!” he shouted, becoming even more aroused and excited, to which she purred and replied ..... “Go look in the garage.” Sometimes I sit and ponder the fact that there are actual human beings out there, who walk among us, that don’t like cheese....like no kind of cheese at all. Not that they have serious diet constrictions and can not eat it due to health reasons, Noooo!, it’s the fact that they just do not like cheese. wth??? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before all our smartphones, when there was the time change to ‘spring forward’, it was so cool to show up to work an hour late and blame it on the alarm clock - Ahh, good times when it was old skool. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I know my dog loves me, but if I had a squeaker in me, he would gut me like a fish. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bubba and Leroy are at their watering hole and Leroy says, “So you’re saying after 20 years of marriage, your wife still thinks that you’re sexy?” Bubba replies, “Yes! I walk around naked on the weekends cause the kids moved out, but every time I pass her she looks me up and down and says, “What an ass!”. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Me and the wife were on a road trip and she needed to pee (again) and saw a sign for the next exit, that read: ‘Welcome To Peckers Cutoff’ and underneath it read: Population 2 We looked at each other and our eyes got really big and I felt my foot puttin’ the pedal to the metal, and we aint talked no more about that, but I can’t get it out of my head. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don’t know who is writing the sayings that go into the fortune cookies these days, but mine just said: Find a man who strokes your hair and tells you how soft it is and doesn’t even mention or care that’s it’s on your legs. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My 6 year old was sitting on the couch and she looked sad and I asked her what’s the matter and she said “I was just wondering if Jelly Fish are sad that there isn’t any Peanut Butter Fish.” And now, I can’t get it out of my head. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Male bees die after mating. That’s basically their life. Honey. Nut. Cheerio. -------------------------------------------------------- Exercise makes you look better naked. So does Tequila. Your choice. Blog by Olivia Goheen for Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys Gevin Fax is a versatile and accomplished individual who has made significant contributions in various fields. From being a musician and actress to starting her career as a motorcycle model, motorcycles have played a pivotal role in her life. Her passion for motorcycles and her mantra of “live your dare” led her to embark on thrilling experiences that have proudly shaped the woman she is today. Gevin recalls her transformative moment during her first visit to Sturgis in 1990, where she embraced the fear of stepping out of her comfort zone as being one of the only black females to attend the rally. Through her involvement in the motorcycle community, she has gained an open-minded perspective on life and improved her listening skills, realizing that people are diverse yet inherently the same. Looking ahead, Gevin envisions traveling the world and hosting women’s groups to address pertinent issues faced by riders. She believes in the power of the motorcycle community to bring people together, regardless of their differences. Gevin’s journey showcases her resilience and determination to overcome challenges, including facing ostracism due to her race and sexual orientation. She encourages individuals who fear judgment or struggle to find their place in a community to take a leap of faith to embrace their passions and see where it takes them. Gevin Fax exemplifies a fearless spirit and a commitment to living life to the fullest within the motorcycle community and beyond. Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys: You’re doing a lot of things. You’re a musician and a strong supporter of The Litas. You’re an actress, and in your early days, you were a model. So, motorcycles are your life. What’s the latest and greatest? What’s going on with you? Gevin Fax: I have a documentary coming up called Two Wheels in Paradise. It’s going to be filmed in the Dominican Republic. Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys: I know this is not your first documentary and your first one was back in the nineties with “Biker Women.” Can you walk us through how your passion for motorcycles began? Gevin Fax: My father’s client gave him the motorcycle — a moped. He said, “Hey, if your daughter can get it running, then great.” That was my first experience with a motorcycle that was mine. But prior to that, my dad and mom took us to a minibike place and threw me on a minibike and I was there riding around and having a great time in the dirt. Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys: You like to say, “live your dare.” You’re putting yourself out there as much as possible and you’re taking on all these great experiences. I want to know, what experience did you really live your dare? Tell me about that moment and how it truly changed your perspective and changed everything about you. Gevin Fax: I’m gonna say the first experience that I had that really changed my life and made me realize, “I’m taking on some kind of scary things that are kind of out of my wheelhouse, but I’m gonna do it anyway”, was when I went to Sturgis for the first time in 1990. Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys: I’d love to know about the sense of community that you found in the motorcycle community. How has it influenced your approach to life and relationships outside of the community? Gevin Fax: I have to say that my experience with motorcycles has made me far more open-minded than I could have ever imagined. Far more survival equipped than I could have ever imagined. It’s helped me improve my listening skills when you’re in an area and around people who, none of them look like you or know much about you. First of all, it taught me that people are people. There’s good people and there’s bad people, period. It taught me that everybody’s got an opinion and a different point of view, and there’s not a thing wrong with that. It taught me to listen because I have learned through this experience, because like I said, I’ve been submerged in a lot of people that weren’t so open to people of color. Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys: Talk to me about finding alignment through The Litas. Gevin Fax: That’s a great question. I’ll tell you why. For years, as you can imagine, before the internet, it was very difficult to connect with other women that rode. So I rode 90% of the time by myself, which was fine. I enjoy riding by myself. For me, after years and decades of not having a community of women — because I have had communities of people over the many decades that I’ve been riding with, many people can speak to that, but to be able to have a group of like-minded females was amazing. Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys: What are some of your next goals and new pursuits that you have going on for yourself? Gevin Fax: I haven’t really traveled that much out of the United States. So for me, my hopes and dreams are to be able to travel the world and be able to host different women’s groups at the same time. Talking about some of the issues that they have that become problematic for them as women, or just people that ride in general. But I want to do it all via the motorcycle community because, in my opinion, I believe that we have an amazing community. I think that our community represents the world. I think that even though we all have different opinions and dislikes — I believe that our community could be the driving force to pull the world together.
