RIDE PRIDE: THE PHOTO SHOOT

Afew years back, Brad “Bradster” Vinnard reached out to us to do a photo shoot of his
1949 Panhead that he was working on. We told him that once he got it finished to hit
us up. Unfortunately, we were unable to coordinate our schedules with Brad to make a
photo shoot happen.
Shortly afterwards Brad passed away (see below) in mid July, his widow Mia reached out again
because she wanted some photos of her on Brad’s bike along with her large circle of supportive
friends. She told us that she didn’t know how long she’d be able to hold on to his bike. It was
the least we could do since it a photo shoot that was in the works already.

Per Mia, the bike is “pretty much stock, it has a springer
front end, a suicide shift with a crystal doorknob shifter,
chrome 40” spike wheels, a E-spark big twin distributor,
and chrome side fill oil tank. And Brad …LOVED THAT
BIKE!” Now we can all see why.

Grieving Widow Shares
Bradster’s Mission

On July 17, 2021, I lost my sweet husband to COVID-19.
His last request to me was that I pass along our story to
our friends and family, so they wouldn’t have to go through
what we were going through. At that moment, I knew I had
to do this for him. So after he passed away, I started calling
local TV stations and asking them if I could share our story.

That’s when it all began, I appeared on Channel 3, evening
news 6pm & 10pm. They came to our home and me and
my sister-in-law sat and talked with them. Our mission
is to talk about vaccination and I kept talking and people
were listening. I was then contacted by Channel 10 - they
aired my interview on the Evening News, then World News
Tonight with Lester Holt and they shared our story to other
affiliates and then the Today Show.

On the Lift
It was also when the messages and phone calls started. I
was receiving messages from friends, co-workers and even
people I didn’t even know - from Oregon to Florida and everywhere in between. I lost count at 100. People
who contacted me and told me they saw me on TV and thanked me for sharing our story. And because of
seeing and hearing us, they change their minds about getting vaccinated. I can’t tell you how good it felt to
know our story was saving people’s lives.

What better way to honor my husband‘s life than by saving others people’s lives. I know he’s smiling down
on me and proud of me for putting my grieving aside to honor his last wish. So please help me honor a good
man taken too soon by a virus which could have been prevented by getting a shot or two. At least, talk to
your doctor about it. Do it For Brad. -Mia Ponte Vinnard

May 22, 1915. A plug dome volcano forms when lava is
too thick to flow great distances. A steam blast shattered
Lassen’s plug, creating an avalanche of melted snow and

a fire still burns. The volcanic remnants erode, the shape of
the valley changes, and hot steam continues to roar from
the hydrothermal system that lies underground. Heated by
molten rock, acidic hot spring water rises to the surface
creating a pool of bubbling mud, or a boiling mud pot. When
the water boils away, the steam vent becomes a fumarole

Born Free 12 “Invited Builder” was Jake Wreesman with his 48 HD Panhead. The “Best in Show” award was split between
two builders- Hawke Lawshe with his 66 framed turbo-powered Shovelhead dragdigger (PHOTO G) and Christian Newman
with his 1939 eight-valve ULH custom. Both bikes will be sent courtesy of Born Free to the 2021 Mooneyes Hot Rod Custom
Show in Yokohama, Japan.

Gary and Mary Hoffman with friends After awarding trophies and plaques to all the winning builders, Born
Free Founders Grant Peterson and Mike Davis raffled off a fully restored
1939 HD Knucklehead motorcycle to only attendees who stayed to the
end of the show, as you had to be present to win. A new HD softtail
was also awarded as a second place prize. You can do the numbers
and know those are pretty good odds of winning when considering how
many people stayed to the end of the show on Sunday-maybe 3 to 4
thousand. Unfortunately the first names drawn for both bikes this year
had stuck around long enough to claim their jewels (in 2019 it took 4
pulls to find a winner!) So once again, I didn’t win, but I can assure you
I will die trying again next year, and the next and the next!
