Parade Route On Christian Valley Rd

RIDE DESTINATION:
Auburn – Colfax – Meadow Vista

Thought I would follow up a little on my last months
ride. After leaving Minnesota, I made my way
south and on into Arkansas. I wanted to check out
the annual CMA get together, “Changing of the Colors” in
Hatfield. This four- day event is open to all chapters and
is a great opportunity for some fellowship and inspiration
before the winter months set in. On my way down though,
after gassing up in Bentonville, I noticed a clicking sound
coming from the motor. I spent the night in Fort Smith and
rolled into Hatfield early the next morning. When I left that
afternoon, the clicking noise had turned into a clacking and
by the time I made it to I40, it was a clanging. Yikes!

With 150 miles to Oklahoma City, I sent up a couple of
prayers and gratefully I limped into the Homewood Suites.
I chose the Homewood because it’s, basically, across the
parking lot from Harley-Davidson World in Oklahoma City.

I want to give a shout out to Ray, Leon, and Mike, who, the next
morning, got me right in and had me ready to roll that afternoon. A
lifter had let go and threw some shrapnel around. They pretty much
replaced the entire Cam side. Heading home, it was almost like
having a new motor. Thanks guys!!

So, that takes us to this month. I saw that the Auburn Veteran’s Day
parade was coming up, so I decided to see what was up and get a little
ride in at the same time. I’m glad I came out. Lots of good patriotic
fun was had by what seemed to be the entire city. Veteran’s groups,

Everyone traveled down to Central Square and then
out to the Gold Country Fairgrounds for lunch and the
ceremonies honoring those who risk it all. If you’re free
next Veteran’s Day, make your way out to Auburn and
enjoy the festivities. You won’t regret it.

After hanging out for a while, I made my way to I80 and
putted up to Bell Road. This is a day ride I’ve done a couple
of times. You can take Bell back to SR49, which avoids
most of the traffic, or turn east on Bowman. Bowman
becomes Christian Valley and then Stanley, Virginia,
Helen, and Florence will take you out to 49. Missing all
the traffic.

From there, it was up to Combie Road and a southern
swing around Lake of the Pines. Rutherford and Magnolia
will the deliver you onto Dog Bar Road. This is a nice
section of the route with plenty of turns and benders to
navigate. A bit later, a turn on Rattlesnake Road will
eventually come out on SR174.

The Luchessi Vineyards in Grass Valley (www.
lucchesivineyards.com) are out this way if you want to find
your way down a few tight backroads. Their hours have
been a little spotty lately, so you might want to call before
coming out. My next stop? The Red Frog in Colfax. I’d
been riding for a while, so I thought I would sit out back
and wet my whistle. Thought about having an early dinner
but decided to save that for my next stop. So, off I went
back out on I80, and down to Placer Hills Drive. Lots of
twists and turns to enjoy as you head on down to Meadow
Vista. Hadn’t been to the Tin Lantern Bar and Grill (www.
tinlanternmeadowvista.com) before. Comfy little place.
Nice bar and a wide menu. From burgers to Bolognese
Ravioli. A fine place to end my day on the road. Later!
