January 15-16 (Placerville) Event promoter

Bob Richards from 41 Live! (www.41live.
com) pulled off a new event to fill the void

left when the Easyriders Show did not come
back to NorCal. Fortunately, the perfect
weather brought a steady stream of bikes
rolling in to the El Dorado Fairgrounds
& Event Center (eldoradocountyfair.org)
which made a great indoor venue. Live
music, a bunch of very cool bikes to drool
over, a full bar complete with TV’S for those
who did not want to miss any of the NFL
playoff games. Special guest Mike Fahey
of Grumpy’s Motorcycles in San Bruno
was there to be the guest judge of the bike
show. Indian Motorcycle of Hollister brought
up some show stopping bikes with custom
paint by Erik Solorio who was there showing
a steady hand while pinstriping tanks and
fenders. They also contributed a couple of
youth electric bikes (Indian eFTR Jr) that
were great fun for the indoor slow drags.
Thanks to Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys
and all the other sponsors and vendors that
supported this fun event. All of those that
came out to this event seemed to be having
a great time as 41Live! always finds a way to
put a unique twist on the events they do. To
sum it up, an event like this just had a cool
vibe about it. So keep an eye out for this
one to come back again next year, making it
a new annual tradition on the NorCal event
schedule.

Historic building in Plymouth Ca in Calaveras County. Bart was a feared stagecoach bandit
Vineyards in Plymouth in California during the 1880’s. My 5th Great Grandfather,
James Mecartea was the town blacksmith. His wife wrote
in her journals that Black Bart and his men would sneak
in during the middle of the night to get their horses shod.
Her husband would get up out of bed and shoe the horses.
When done, Black Bart and his men would leave, with no
harm to the family.

I saw the creeks are full and the Consumes River flow
quickly. The water glistens where sun is shining on the
rocks. Still, the state needs more snow and rain to fulfill
the need for water. We are excited to see horses running
towards us, frolicking inside a fenced field on our left. Just
like that, I am lost in the beauty of the surroundings and the
thoughts running through my mind escape me.

We approach the town of Plymouth, where I am intrigued
by the unique historic buildings still standing. Plymouth,
originally named Pokerville when settled, is part of the
Gold Rush Mother Lode. In those early days, the miners
found gold in the creeks. Today known as the Gateway to
Shenandoah Valley, the town still finds gold on the land.
The gold comes from the grapes that grow in the vineyards
and becomes fine wine. Not blooming yet, the grapevines
look like brown sticks. Give them a few months and the
color of the hills will be worth the wait. There are so many
cool barns. Some are working and in use, others are
dilapidated and falling apart.

me by my name. I did not have a clue who he is. This has
happened before so I am not surprised. I apologized and
asked his name. As if I should know, he says to me, “I’m
Reno Bell.” Aware of my confusion and knowing he was
not playing fair, he laughed and told me that he sees my
face in a little square space about the size of a postage
stamp when he reads my stories in Thunder Roads NorCal
Magazine. I am flattered that he recognized me and
honored that he told me he reads my stories. I introduced
myself to his friends and thanked him. They smiled when I
asked for a photo. I had a copy of the current issue on the
bike and gave it to him. We visited until my group was ready
to leave.

We rode out, leaving Fair Play. Next stop, soft serve ice
cream at Deb’s Frosty in Diamond Springs. This place is
a popular local spot, a walk up with plenty of parking too.
They need a new sign, though the faded sign also adds
to the character and atmosphere of the place. If you stop
there, you will not be sorry.

I am excited to share that we have out of town and state

year. Great photos and stories to come. If you
want to see what I can see, come ride with us.

THERIDSE PIRNIDES OF
MY FATHER

This Dyna caught my eye as
soon as I walked into the
event center last month at
the 41Live! Ride The Line Bike Show
and party. With its spectacular paint job
and a quick look at all the top of the line
components, I could tell that this bike had
been set up with attention to the details.
It would eventually end up taking top
honors in its category at this show just to
prove that my initial reaction was spot on.
We had a blast doing this photo shoot
with bike owner Mike Walker Jr and the
ever gorgeous Jessie who knew just how
to show this bike off. We asked if the
bike had a name. Mike told TRM NorCal
that he calls it “The Sins of My Father”
because he’s the one that got me into
motorcycles at 5 years old. Following
are the details of what has been done
with this bike so far. Thank you Mike
for sharing your love and dedication to
motorcycles with all of us.

Is it too big of a bike for your physical ability? www.RussBrown.com
One of the most significant issues I see with riders is buying a bike
that they can’t handle. Many riders are concerned about dropping
their motorcycle and not having the ability to pick it back up. You don’t
want to have a bike that you cannot move around on your own. Some
riders have difficulty turning the motorcycle while riding because of the
weight. You want to find something that you can pick up and turn.

Do you have medical issues that would prevent you from riding
certain types of motorcycles?
If you have some medical issues like back pain, shoulder pain, arm
pain, leg pain, etc. You may want to rent the type of bike you would
want to get and ride it for a few hundred miles and see how you feel
before making a purchase.

What kind of bike should I get if I am a beginner?
People will tell you to stay under 500 CC when you are a new rider.
The issue with saying 500 CC is you could have a 500 CC sport bike
vs a 500 CC cruiser, and the horsepower of the two bikes is entirely dif-
ferent. You want to find a bike that, if you make a mistake like popping
the clutch out, you won’t be going down the road at 60 MPH in first
gear or get thrown off the bike.

Should I buy a new or used motorcycle?
Buying a new or used bike is a decision you must make. Purchasing
a new bike means no one else has done anything to it and has not
damaged it. You must be careful buying a used bike because you don’t
know how the previous owner treated that motorcycle unless you know
