Island Magazine, Issue 1

Island Magazine, Issue 1

Welcome to Island!

What does it mean to “live like a local?” To me, it
means knowing the secret places, the restaurants
and bars off the beaten path, establishments that
our summer and winter visitors might not know
about. This is the vision behind Island. I’ll also visit
with some legendary businesses while still seeking

out that local angle, that hidden gem.
Each issue will also introduce notable musicians,

interesting locals. As a photojournalist and
reporter for nearly 15 years along the Alabama
Gulf Coast, I have come to know our beaches
inside and out. When I knew it was time to launch
my own book, I understood its contents had to hold
images and words on how we locals live in Perdido
Key, Orange Beach, Gulf Shores and beyond.
Island serves to honor the locals while educating
our tourists on how to live like those of us who call the Alabama Gulf Coast home.
And hopefully entertaining all at the same time.
I hope this debut issue comes close to that singular vision. In each issue,
photographs will tell the story with a focus on food, drink and more. Each month,
I’ll seek out interesting locals and hidden gems in the place we call paradise. In the
process, I hope to give back to the community that has given me so much for so
long. Thank you for picking up the debut of Island.
