1. INTRODUCTION


Our Vision The vision of SWCS is “conservation and sustainable management of Sabah’s wetlands”. Our Mission The mission of SWCS is “to ensure protection and wise use of all wetlands in Sabah, through education, research and advocacy”. Our Objectives To the conservation of wetlands in Sabah and the variety of plants, birds and other kind of living organisms found in them; To public awareness and appreciation of wetlands and public involvement in protecting wetlands; To Kota Kinabalu Wetland as a model wetland centre for the purpose of conservation, education, recreation, tourism and research; and To do activities as deemed appropriate by the Management Committee. 1 3 2 promote raise manage 4 fundraising

1. Toyota UMW – Mangrove Restoration i. Duration : 03 March 2020 – 31 December 2022 (extension) ii. Total Fund : RM158,888.00 iii. Objectives a) To educate 1,250 students on wetlands conservation; b) To plant 5,000 mangrove trees at Sulaman Lake Forest Reserve, Tuaran and Lemaas Forest Reserve, Kota Belud.

• Species: Bruguiera hainesii • Local Name : Berus Mata Buaya • IUCN Red list: Critically Endangered 6. Bruguiera hainesii


Way forward of Bruguiera hainesii (Berus mata buaya) • Published paper confirming the mangrove species is a hybrid between Bruguiera gymnorhiza and Bruguiera cylindrica. • Both B. gymnorhiza and B. cylindrica are commonly found in KK Wetland. • B. hainesii currently are listed as Critically Endangered under IUCN Redlist, however IUCN Redlist will not consider hybrid species. • Thus, high probability it will be de-listed from IUCN Redlist. • Currently one one (1) out of 86 individual is surviving in KK Wetland.


4. INFRASTRUCTURE, DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE REPORT


UPGRADING & DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS (2021) 1. Installation of 36 units of Interpretative Signage along the boardwalk at Kota Kinabalu Wetland – Sabah Tourism Board (RM9,000) 2. Repair and maintenance works for 10 existing huts along the boardwalk at Kota Kinabalu Wetland – Sabah New Deal (RM19,800) 3. Naiktaraf Bangunan Pentadbiran, Bengkel dan Tandas – Jabatan Hidupan Liar Sabah (RM750,000) 4. Naiktaraf Jalan Masuk di Tanah Lembap Kota Kinabalu – Jabatan Perhutanan Sabah (RM220,000) 5. • Site Meeting and handover site to the contractor on 23 July 2021 4. Naiktaraf Jalan Masuk di Tanah Lembap Kota Kinabalu – Jabatan Perhutanan Sabah (RM220,000) • Work completed on 27 October 2021


• Project started on 6 July 2021 5. Naiktaraf Jejambat Kayu di Tanah Lembap Kota Kinabalu Sabah – Jabatan Hidupan Liar (RM249,000) • Handing over site on 10 November 2021 • Defect Liability Period starts from 11 Nov 2021 to 10 May 2022 • Work completed on 12 January 2022


6. Masterplan Entrance Area Project


i) Concrete Walkway & installation of outdoor tiles (150m) – RM121,010.00 ii) Grass Turfing – RM25,856.00


iv) Decking / Gazebo – RM21,428.00 iii) Glamping Sandpit – RM3,200.00


• Planting flowers around the office area. Ongoing work. • Soil filling starts on 1 February 2022 v) Landscaping – RM5,885.00
