Dear Colleagues and guests,

Assalamualaikum w.b.t and Salam Sejahtera
On behalf of the Planning Committee, we warmly welcome you to the 1st
National Scientific Conference on Medical & Health Science ILKKM 2018 in
one of 33 training institutions under Ministry of health – ILKKM Sg. Buloh.
The year 2018 is a very special to NSCMHS ILKKM. This is the 1st
conference provides us with the opportunity support by the training division of
Malaysia Ministry of Health. The conference theme, “Bridging the preclinical-
clinical boundary by ensuring Malaysia constantly discovering & developing
towards better health science & medicine” has been carefully chosen to mark
such a milestone of our diversity in medical and health fields. Hoping from
this conference would be an eye opener not just members of ILKKM but also
all background of health and medicine to have made a tremendous
contributions in research, teaching and practice, resulting in impacts in many
sectors of fields. At this conference let us celebrate what we, as a professional
community, have achieved. Additionally, our future vision is to create even
greater value to all corners of the globe. This conference will be one for us to
share our thoughts and exchange ideas on how to chart our journey forward to
reach new heights especially Malaysia Health and Medicine. We have an
exciting program at this conference that will allow members to reflect upon and
celebrate our past accomplishments, renew friendships and extend our
networks, and jointly explore current and future research directions. We thank
the local staff, participants, session chairs, keynote and plenary speakers for
helping us to build this very exciting conference program. The Local
Organizing and Scientific Committees will make any possible effort to make
sure that your participation will be scientifically rewarding and a pleasurable
experience of respective fields under health and medicines. We hope that you

ILKKM AT GLANCE

Dental Nurse Training College was set up in 1949 in Penang to trained nurses, dental
surgery assistant and use of dental technology. The first nurses training college was
Penang Nursing College, established in 1947 and was followed by the opening of
nurses hostel on 16th July 1956 by Sir Donald McGilivray, K.C.M.G, MBE. Formerly
known as Penang Nursing School, the college started with a new curriculum, i.e post-
basic training of Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Intensive Care, Coronary and Perioperative
courses. College of Medical Assistant in Ulu Kinta, Perak was the second institution
established in West Malaysia to meet the need of health care services in Malaysia. Be-
side Ulu Kinta, College of Medical Assistant are also established in Seremban, Ku-
ching and Alor Setar. Ulu Kinta College of Medical Assistant operated with six
instructors on 1st January 1992. On 13th January 1992 the college started their basic
medical assistant courses with 50 students. However the history of the college began
as early as 1956 when it provided training to Assistant Nurses. In 1970, the college
was used to trained Primary Hospital Assistant. In 1992, the Manpower Planning and
Training Division decided to use the college to train Medical Assistants with the
standard of diploma class.

In the 7th Malaysia Plan, the government has approved the construction of five Col-
lege of Allied Health Sciences (Kolej Sains Kesihatan Bersekutu - KSKB) currently
known as ILKKM (Institusi Latihan Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia) under the Min-
stry of Health, namely Allied Health Sciences College of Sungai Buloh, Kota Kinaba-
lu, Kuching, Johor Bahru and Ulu Kinta. College of Allied Health Sciences provided
training from six disciplines of Nursing, Radiography and Radiotheraphy, Physiother-
apy, Occupational Therapist, Pharmacy Assistant and Environmental Health. The Al-
lied Health Sciences College main objective is to conduct academic training
programme in semi-professional health sciences in tandem with the manpower need
especially in the field of health sciences while cultivating a positive attitude and char-
acter building, innovative and able to compete globally in the field of health sciences.

Speaker Biography

Dr. Tg. Shahrul Anuar

obtained his PhD degree in Medical Parasitology from the Univer-
siti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2013. Currently, his research focuses
on neglected tropical diseases primarily among the marginalized
populations utilizing advanced tools to understand these diseas-
es. Up to this date, he has published 35 ISI journals, which 14 of
them were in Tier 1. His work is well cited with a total of 429 cita-
tions and a H-index of 11. He started his career as a Senior Lec-
turer at Faculty of Health Sciences in 2013 and currently is a
Research Fellow at Integrative Pharmacogenomics Institute,
Universiti Teknologi MARA, Puncak Alam Campus.

Dr. Kulanthayan KN Mani

Holds a Doctoral degree in Transportation Engineering from Uni-
versiti Putra Malaysia in 2002. He continued further by pursuing
his post-doctoral researcher with the Road Safety Research Cen-
tre, Faculty of Engineering in 2002 and a Diploma in Traffic Safe-
ty from Lund University in Sweden in 2007. He works on
preventing unintentional injuries mainly focussing on traffic,
drowning, falls and burn injuries involving children. Globally, he is
recognised and serves as a Member of the Advisory Board of
Child Injury Prevention Alliance (CIPA) based in Ohio, USA since
2016 and Safe Kids Malaysia UPM is a member of Global Alli-
ance of NGOs on Road Safety based in Geneva, Switzerland.
He also serves as a member of International Journals on Medical,
Health and Safety globally.

Dr. Hj Tahir Aris

appointed as the director of Institute for Public Health in January,
2010. He is a Public Health Specialist; He obtained his medical de-
gree in 1989 and completed his Master of Public Health (Occupa-
tional Health) degree in 1994 at the National University of Malaysia
(UKM). A member of Medical and Health Sciences Expert Working
Committee for National Sciences and Research Council under Min-
istry of Sciences, technology and Innovation. He is also a member
of Ministry of Health Research and Ethics Committee. He is a
member of South East Asia Community Observatory (SEACO)
Scientific Advisory Group Members, Monash University Sunway
Campus and member of Technical and Finance Consultancy
Committee for The National Population and Family Development
Board (LPPKN), under the Ministry of Women, Family and Com-
munity Development. Dr Tahir is an active Health Systems Re-
search and Public Health Investigator and involved in publishing
more than 35 technical reports and proceedings.

Dr. Khatijah Lim Abdullah
Currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Nursing Sci-
ences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. She completed
her general nursing training in University of Malaya, and her mid-
wifery and neonatal intensive care course in the United Kingdom
(UK). Khatijah obtained both her BSc (Hons) in Nursing Studies and
Masters in Health Services Management from the University of
Manchester UK. She completed her doctorate studies from the Uni-
versity of Southampton, UK.
Her current research interests are in inter professional education,
patient shared decision making, particularly in non- communicable
diseases (NCDs), patient safety, women and child health, and clini-
cal leadership. She is currently the Vice President for Malaysia
Qualitative Research Association (QRAM) and Chief Editor for the
Malaysia Journal of Qualitative Research (MJQR).

Roslinda Abu Sapian
A research officer of National Institute Of Health under Malaysia
Ministry of Health since 2009. She is working under the research
grant unit and responsible of any application and observation any
respective projects which involved under Ministry of Health fund-
ing. Her interest research background is in genetics and plant bio-
technology.
