ELEMENTS OF
DESIGN

Lines

A line is an element defined by its
moving point. Some lines that are used
can have more than 1 dimension to it

Color

Is an objects chromatic
quality. Color is made up
of 3 properties which
are; hue, value, and
intensity.

Value

■ Value is the lightness or darkness of tones or colors.
White is the lightest value and black is the darkest
value. The value in between is referred as middle
gray.

Space

■ An element of art by which positive and negative areas are defined or a sense of
depth achieved in a work of art

Form

An element of art that is 3D and encloses
volume; includes height, width and depth .
For example: Cube, cylinders,

TEXTURE

Texture is an element of art that refers to the way things feel, or look as if
they might feel if touched
