P R E F A C E 0 6 Based on the Heutagogy's Learning Activity, Landscape Exploration is an adaption of 21st century learnin methodologies (Self-determined Learning). The primary objective is to create a set of essential skills, including a cooperation, , critical thinking, and problem-solving, in order to teach, lead, and assist pupils in thriving in the modern worl The most crucial aspect to examine is how we led the journey to success from start to finish. For the Adventure approac interpersonal and team-building skills are developed in the context of an expedition to achieve a common goal. The choice o expedition or event is influenced by philosophical considerations as well as time, budgetary, and human resource constraint This book highlights the inventiveness of us in coming up with alternatives, to maximising the value of our learning experienc This will represent the standards and excellence of the landscape architecture programme at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and serve as a reminder of our inexhaustible efforts and ingenuity.
F O R E W O R D B Y D R N O R L I Z A M O H D I S A 0 7 Sea Sand and Laughter is the second edition of the Landscape Exploration (SBEZ2933) publication project. The efforts and commitment have succeeded in publishing this compilation of students' learning experiences through various landscape expedition. This book is a compilation of 4 landscape expedition namely; (1) Gunung Pulai, (2) Balai Cerap UTM, (3) Mersing, Johor and (4) Tasik Biru Kangkar Pulai, Johor. The expedition that students carried out was planned carefully by themselves including the training that they did before the real expedition and the outcomes have turned out handsomely. Well done and Congratulations!

Begin with physical training and preparation towards real journey of natural landscape adventure, it shows a symbiosis of knowledge exploration in understanding of environmental design process. Apart from that, the expedition shows the beauty of natural landscape and should be explored with high appreciation. This group of colleagues really enjoyed and translated their appreciation of the whole experience through publication of this book. I hope this book will be beneficial to all and encourage others to appreciate nature and landscape design for better healthy living.
I N T R O D U C T I O N In the hustle and bustle of us seeking knowledge in landscape design, we are grateful to have this one subject included in our syllabus. Landscape expedition and exploration is a new venture of learning landscape design and exploring it in various ways. It focuses on how we put our vision toward landscape with different interpretations. This book showcases our journey from setting up, getting ready and to the success of this expedition program during the endemic of Covid19 through our creativity, credibility, and hard work. Flipping through this book by pages, you can explore and appreciate a variety of kind talents portrayed by each individual. Different characters of us are unique and beyond your expectation. We record our journey and experience with photos and some words in hope that you can enjoy and feel the excitement with us. "Exploration is curiosity put into action." I I NN T T RR OO DD UU CC T T I I OO NN On 28 May 2022, we went to Gunung Pulai for our fitness training and to make sure our bodies are ready and fit before going on the trip to Mersing. The mountain shows the raw beauty of nature, and extreme calmness and offers so much more than we can imagine. The waterfall is cold and looked magical as a slight mist will ascend from the river and form at the top of the mountain. As a result of the hiking, our appreciation for nature grew and we started to learn the path to gaining a more peaceful, enjoyable approach to life. 1 1
"To walk in nature is to witness a thousand miracles " -Marie DavisTr a ining LLeeaarrnniinngg FFiittnneessss Hygi ene HH I I KK I I NN GG JJ OO UU RR NN EE Y Y The first step towards enjoying the next expedition trip is to strengthen our fitness through hiking. Therefore we decided to do hiking at Gunung Pulai using the jungle trail. It was a challenging yet fun trial especially when we go in a group. This training helps in balancing our fitness and mental strength. Some of us went there in our own cars and the others went with Dr. Wan. It was a beautiful day for training and having a good view of nature. We escaped from our busy and stressful life for a while. 1 2
"It always seems impossible until it' s done. " -Dear BossWe thought we can't make it, but we managed to finish until the top of Gunung Pulai. It was an amazing day! Just put in our mind "WE CAN DO IT" and everything is possible! 1 3

It refreshes our bodies after long hours of hiking! 1 5
SS UU MM MM AA RR Y Y This part of training really taught us how to balance and regulate our physical and mental endurance when executing a challenging task. We were all eager to begin hiking right away, but not everyone was successful in finishing it. Going through a difficult trip is such an intriguing experience, but it also helps us develop our interpersonal and leadership abilities while increasing our physical stamina. Finally, throughout this journey, we explored and admired the beauty of the natural scenery. -End of Journey1 6

I N T R O D U C T I O N “Life is not a quest. It's a voyage of discovery. An expedition through yourself and life.” ― Silvie Mateljan, soulpedition Using the concept of "Mesmerising Mersing", Mersing is a coastal town in southeast Malaysia that is known as the departure point for ferries to offshore islands like Pulau Tioman and Pulau Rawa. Our expedition in Mersing aimed for the development of interpersonal skills and team building in the form of expeditions by doing outdoor activities such as hiking mountains and island hopping. Other than that, this expedition also aimed to learn in a real way related to time management, financial and human resources. The last aim is to enrich students' awareness of human relationships with the environment as one of the core themes in the landscape architecture profession. 2 4

The solar panel on the street lighting has captured our attention, what a great design that pulls power from the sun. Not only that it is cost-reductive, but also act as pollution reducer. 2 7
Our experience at the public park by the coastal gave us a peace of mind and good opportunities to create memories with friends, through the fresh air and photographs. 2 8
TELUK GOREK CHALET & CAMPSITE Teluk Gorek provides two types of accommodations, chalets in different sizes or capacities and campsites for those seeking for a stay with more natural experience. There are also dorms that can accommodate 25 people as Teluk Gorek Chalet is a hot spot for people having trips in groups. Playing volleyball was the first activity we did after checking in and dropping the luggages at the dorms. We enjoyed doing the sport by the beach with a scenic view as we improve our teamwork by playing in teams. 2 9
