MVC Parent Guide

MAKE CHRIST KNOWN SEE EVERY PERSON LAUGH TOGETHER CRAFT BEAUTY MONTE VISTA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL parentguide

Dear Students and Parents, We are grateful to God that you are part of the MVC story - part of our school family. Not many middle and high schools can say they've been serving students and families from around the world for almost a century. Through economic depressions, countless wars, and, most recently, a global pandemic, God has been faithfully changing lives here on our gorgeous 105-acres in the Santa Cruz Mountains. At MVC, we are all learners. And each day, everywhere I look, I see learners being empowered to achieve their highest potential. We're Christcentered, so we strive to make Christ known in everything we do. But we're also people-centered, so we see every person - day-in and day-out. Our faculty members craft beauty through intentional approaches to teaching and learning, while our students do the same in their demonstrations of learning throughout their MVC journey. And last but not least, we laugh together. Life isn't always easy, but we seek joy in every situation and enjoy our community to the fullest. Our campus is amazing, but our people - faculty, staff, and students alike - are truly remarkable. Nikki Daniels Nikki Daniels Head of School WELCOME TO M O N TE V IST A C H RISTI A N

International Baccalaureate MIDDLE YEARSPROGRAM (MYP) The Middle Years Program (MYP) provides students in grades 6-10 an inquiry-based learning framework. Eight core subjects are covered throughout the five years of the MYP, with the Personal Project as a capstone in 10th grade. PERSONALPROJECT The Personal Project is the capstone project of the Middle Years Program. Sophomore students start this project at the beginning of the fall semester and work toward completion and an exhibition that takes place in the spring semester. DIPLOMA PROGRAM (DP) The Diploma Program (DP) provides students in grades 11-12 a set of curricula in which they apply the inquiry skills developed in the MYP to more advanced courses. Students pursuing an IB Diploma (as opposed to a standard MVC Diploma) will take 3 HL & 3 SL courses (each worth between 1-7 points, depending on performance) and all three parts of the DP Core (worth 1 point each) and earn at least 24 points (out of a possible 45) to achieve an IB Diploma. IBEDUCATION Monte Vista Christian School is an IB World School for the Diploma Program and the Middle Years Program. IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education that MVC believes is important for our students.
