Strength & Flexibility:
Dance in all its forms, requires grace and artistry but it also
requires strength, flexibility and conditioning. Conditioning
students in functional strength and flexibility while teaching
them the appropriate way to use their bodies and decreases
the chance of injury. Dancers also require considerable
flexibility and extensive range of motion, especially in the
back, hip and ankles. Your core is your center of gravity and
all movement begins there and plays a key role in all dance
techniques. It stabilizes the legs and mobilizes bones,
allowing movement. A dancer needs strong core muscles to
perform lifts, stabilize the torso during leaps and facilitate
graceful stretching and bending during a dance routine. For
dancers of all ages, a strong center is extremely important for
placement, turns, jumps, landing from jumps. A weak core
results in poor posture and increases the risk of falls, lower
back pain and muscle injuries.
Leaps & Turns:
Leaps & Turns is an important component in every dancer's
repertoire and will enhance all dance styles. This class is
geared towards dancers with some prior experience wanting
to progress quickly. Learning how to correctly spot enables
dancers to improve and maintain balance and control while
executing turns. This class will focus on the most basic of
turns (chaine, pique, pirouette) through the advanced turns
(attitude, arabesque, coupé, fouetté, à la seconde, multiple
pirouettes) and variations of all of the above. Leaps & Turns
also progresses from basic leaps and jumps (grand jeté, saut
de chat, sauté, glissade, jeté, assemblé, pas de chat,
sissonne), to advanced leaps and jumps to compliment Jazz
and Contemporary routines.
Flips & Trix:
The human body is arguably the most incredible piece of
machinery in the history of the world and its ability to
accomplish just about any feat imaginable has made the art
and science of acrobatics a world phenomenon. Acrobatics
is something that inspires awe and wonder, a lot like magic
tricks can do which surrounds many aspects of modern life.
Acrobatics takes physical effort and training. This class is
designed to have fun while learning incredible maneuvers
such as splits, flips, backbend, rolls, hand stand and much
more from a beginners to Intermediate level of the art.
