Hippo & the Turtle

Hippo & the Turtle

The Hippo

& the Turtle

by Angelina Boxwell, Rigel Contaoi,
Jan Dalguntas, & Berenice Gallegos

-

Once upon a time,

in a small town where hippos and turtles roam, the town had their annual race.
The word got out fast as the giraffes and elephants gossiped about the big race.
The two competitors, Harrington the Hippo and Franklin the Turtle were heading
their way to the race, thinking about the shiny trophy awaiting them. As
Harrington got there, the crowd was cheering him on. ¨Everyone. It’s obvious that
I’m going to win. Besides, he’s just a slow turtle. I’ll win and he will be halfway
through the course,”Harrington stated. Everyone was laughing so hard that they
didn't notice Franklin walking in. “Hey guys. I’m ready to win this race,”Franklin
said. All the elephants, giraffes, and the hyenas were laughing. “Ha. You’re as
slow as a snail. Maybe even slower!” said the Elephant. “You’ll never win!” But
Franklin didn’t listen as his eyes were glued to the trophy.

The race has begun and everyone was on the edge of their seats. The racers
would have to run 100 miles. “Ready racers? Get set, GO!” Harrington the
Hippo ZOOMED while Franklin was still speeding past the referee. Harrington
traveled 25 miles in 4 minutes but he suddenly stopped and got distracted by a
pink cloud. Franklin was passing by the exact spot where Harrington is stopping
by in 5 minutes. He sneakily passed by him and continued his way towards the
finish line.

Harrington then notices a squirrel running and realizes that the race is still going
on after a few minutes. Meanwhile Franklin ran as fast as he could, knowing that
the shiny trophy awaited him. Harrington starts to rush to the finish line and then
realizes that Franklin is already at the finish line. It took Franklin 20 minutes to
reach the finish line and Harrington came a few seconds after him. Panting,
Harrington watched as Franklin crossed the finish line before him.

Harrington congratulated Franklin and
apologized for being a little brat. Everyone
doubted Franklin but he ended up winning in the
end. Franklin was then greeted with the great
trophy he dreamed on having in his possession.
Franklin wins the race!

All About The Authors

Angelina, Rigel, Jan, and Berenice based this story of of the
original, “The Tortoise and the Hare.” They worked together to
find the Time and distance. We loved the Idea on Franklin the
Turtle & Harrington the Hippo as the guest stars of “The hippo and
the turtle.” Each one of us put out hard work with roles in important
parts to make this story true. Angelina did storyboard, Rigel did
mathematics, Jan did pure edit and revise, and Berenice did
photography organizer. We’re happy to make the story, The Hippo
and the Turtle.”
