WEDDING FLOWERS St Mary the Virgin, Chiddingstone

THE TEAM The floral design team at St Mary’s provides top quality flowers for weddings and other events at a reasonable cost. A portion of the proceeds go to support the church and help provide the beautiful displays you see at Christmas, Easter and other festivals throughout the year. St Mary’s is one of the most picturesque churches in Kent, set in the heart of the beautiful village of Chiddingstone. All of the team live in the village and have access to an abundance of local foliage which is incorporate into the designs. This can reduce costs and also helps to bring a touch of Kent countryside to your wedding! Because each wedding is unique, we like to work closely with the bride and groom to come up with a style and budget to suit.

THE LYCHGATE The beautiful lychgate of St Mary’s can be adorned in a number of different ways, from a classic, full arch of foliage and flowers to a vibrant central spray. Whatever you choose, it gives your guests their first glimpse of the day’s celebrations and provides the perfect backdrop for your ‘just married’ photos.

HALF ARCH An example of a half arch. This one uses masses of greenery with white, green and cream flowers.

Another example of the classic green and white look, this time with a central focal point of white roses and peonies. Jewel-coloured gerberas and yellow solidago make for a more contemporary look.

This peach coral and cream combination uses gerbera, roses, eustoma and peonies to give colour against the variety of greens.

FULL ARCH A full arch of variegated greenery, embellished with roses, spray roses, astilbe and nigella.

This full arch uses vibrant purple hydrangea, peach roses, lime green chrysanthemums and veronica to create its central focal point.

A beautiful arch of pink and white, featuring roses and peonies.

Another floral arch, this time in apricot and pink tones.

GATE SPRAY A central spray arrangement uses more flowers over a smaller area to create an eye-catching display.

This vibrant gate spray uses hydrangeas, dahlias, calla lilies, eustoma, hypericum berries, delphinium and roses for a contemporary, colourful look.

Another colourful spray, this time using purple allium, as a focal point, with pink roses, antirrhinum, eustoma and nigella.

AUTUMN COLOURS This autumn wedding incorporated stems of locally picked blackberries, combined with blush hydrangeas, hypericum berries, antirrhinum, freesias and eustoma. Another take on autumn colours, this time with deep red roses, vibrant green and orange chrysanthemums, coral antirrhinum and autumn foliage.

This autumn wedding included lots of sunflowers, as seen here in the arch arrangement. The theme continued inside on all the pew ends and pedestal arrangements. The harvest theme was completed with a scattering of pumpkins on the window ledges!

These two weddings used an abundance of summer flowers including roses, astilbe, lilies, delphiniums, hydrangeas, tuber roses and bells of Ireland.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT This time, trailing greenery connects the central spray with two posies on each side of the gate.

The masses of flowers make this gate arrangement a real showstopper.

THE PORCH A row of small vases on the window ledges or a larger display on the benches or windows can lift the entrance porch to the church, giving it a more welcoming feel.

This pair of window ledge arrangements matched the colours of the lychgate and the flowers inside the church.

Potted spring bulbs and tealights, resting on a bed of moss create a natural look. Similarly, mismatched jam jars or small pots filled with garden flowers is a simple solution to bring a burst of colour to the porch window ledges.

INSIDE THE CHURCH There are many options for flowers inside the church, from large pedestal arrangements at the altar, on the chancel steps or at the rear of the church, to small pots on the pew ends or windows.

PEDESTAL ARRANGEMENTS Some examples of altar pedestal arrangements.

More pedestals, this time creating a focal point at the rear of the church, opposite the entrance.

Some examples of pedestal arrangements for the chancel steps. These tend to be smaller than those at the altar or the rear of the church and make a stunning focal point.

PEWS Flowers at the ends of the pews can be very effective. Whether you choose trailing, tear-drop pew end arrangements or more informal pots, they create a lovely avenue of flowers for the bride to pass through on her way to the altar.

A traditional green and white pewend with trailing white satin ribbon. This coral and white pew-end uses a stunning white hydrangea as a focal point, with gerbera and roses adding a splash of colour.

A peaches and cream trailing pewend. The stunning effect of an aisle of flowers, leading to the altar.

Small pots on the end of each pew is a cost-effective way to add colour and softness to the church.

Single sunflowers on the end of each pew made a cheerful autumn display.

WINDOW LEDGES Window ledge arrangements are a lovely way of adding colour and light to the church. Plenty of foliage combined with candles makes an eye-catching display.

Two very different looks, one for an autumn wedding and one for summer.

PILLARS Pillar arrangements are placed just above eye-level to ensure they are always visible, regardless of how full the church is!

A Christmas themed pillar and another in summer tones
