Explain How we Become Stronger When we are Faced With Difficult Times In Life

In 2019, the entire world was shocked by the new virus which
is very hazardous to people known as COVID-19. Due to this
deadly virus which is very contagious, the world has changed
so much in order to reduce the risk of Covid-19. This change
has give a big impact to people including our family. On 15 May
2020, my father lost his job as a cheff at a five star hotel. The problem arise when my father
lose his job. We never live our life like before anymore because it is a great loss as we depend
on our father’s occupation to support our life. By losing his job, we became stronger in life
because we tend to be independent, strengthen our family bond and become more grateful.

We have become more independent in life. According to Merriam Webster (2021),
independent is not requiring or relying on something else. We start to looking for a job to ease
our parents’ burden. This is because, we know our parents did not have enough money to
feed us like before anymore. When we got our job, we will get salary eventhough it is just a
small amount of money. We give half of our salary to our parents so that they can buy our
needs. Another half of it we will save it for our use in the future. Not just that, when we start
working we have become more independent as we
start to help our parents at the food stall. We will
help them cooking and serve the food to our
customers. If we run out of ingredients, my brother
and I will go to the supermarket to buy new
ingredients for our business. By going to the
supermarket, we start to know how to manage financial and only buy things that are useful.
We are no longer rely on our parents to buy everything as we have become more independent
in life.

Next, this difficulty has strengthen our family’s bond. Before this happens, my parents
seldom at home because they are too busy with their work. Because of that, we always locked
ourselves in our room and just do our own things. We rarely talk to each other because we
are busy with work. But, when this difficulty happens, all of us have become closer. We have
more time to each other and start to talking more. For example,we will pray together for
Maghrib dan Isya’ because all of us are at home and have nothing else to do. According to
Denise Witmer (2020), studies have shown that eating meals together has positive effects on

children’s physical and mental well-being. It can also reinforce communication and strengthen
family bonds. After praying, we will cook dinner together and eat together every night. We
have learn so many recipes from our father like fried rice , as well as tips and tricks of cooking
because we helped our father every single night to
cook dinner. During dinner, we will share our stories
and problems to each other. Our parents will listen to
us and comfort us with their motivational words and
experience. Once we finish dinner, we will take turn to
wash dishes and cleaning the dining room. We do this
because we want to help our parents who are already exhausted because they have to work
from dusk till dawn. We have become more closer and understand each other more.

We have become more grateful in life. We have learn to appreciate everything we get
in life and not taking it for granted anymore. This is because, this difficulty has make us realise
that it is not easy to live a life when we do not have enough money. For example, we never
waste our money and just buy things that are useful for us. When our clothes are torn, my
mother tell us to not to throw it because she wants to sew it. This is because, my mother says
that torn clothes are still wearable and should not be thrown away. Whenever we have extra
food at the stall, we will give it to needed people because we know not everybody is lucky like
us. Eventhough we are poor, we still have food and work to do to support our life. My father
also told us to help people when they are in a hard time by giving them essentials because it
will means a lot to them. We also believe that when we help people, one day they will help us
back when we are in a hard time. The struggle of living a hard life also has make us become
thrifty especially when it is about money. Instead of ordering food outside, we start to cook
because we know it will save more money and we can keep the money for something else like
paying school fees.

In conclusion, this difficulty which my father lost his job has make us become stronger
in life. We have become more independent, strengthen our family’s bond and also become
more grateful for what we get. According to Idowu Koyenikan (2016), there are certain life
lessons that you can only learn in struggle. We have change in positive ways due to this
difficulties. We know it is not easy to overcome it but once we manage to face this challenge,
it is very worthy and give a lot of new experience.
