OAMC introduces new
baggage policy

In line with the highest standards and global operating
procedures in the aviation industry, Oman Airports
Management Company (OAMC), is introducing a new
baggage policy across its major airports, including
Muscat International, Salalah and Sohar. Effective from
September 1st, passengers will no longer be allowed to
check in round and irregular shaped luggage such as
items wrapped in blankets, linen or tied with rope. This
change is applicable to all passengers regardless of
airline, cabin class or destination. For travellers, the new
policy will result in faster pickups, less baggage jams, and an overall smoother and hassle-free experience. For airport personnel,
it will ensure the safety and security of baggage handlers, efficient check-ins and seamless access to checked baggage in case
of further security screening. The Company is currently working closely with all airlines, travel agencies, and tourism promoting
websites, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to ensure that this policy is clearly communicated to all travellers to and from
Oman.

As global fashion continues to influence
our everyday life and dictate our
social media approach, find out what
it takes to create fashion accessories
and clothes that define the local
mores and translate the cultural
nuances on a modern canvas

Oman may have its reservations when it comes to adopting style and fashion launched on global runways
by international designers, but it has not shied away from staking a claim in the fashion arena, albeit on
a tradition platform, with many talented Omanis joining the fashion designing fold to craft accessories
and clothes that cater to fashionistas in the country. While new designers prefer to rely on Instagram to
reach out to potential customers, several have found strong foothold in the vibrant world of fashion through their
boutiques.

In the following pages, we present the stories of four designers who have coloured Oman’s fashion canvas with
their craftsmanship.

The year was 2011 when Shadya Al-Ismaily,a committed
career woman, decided to put the brakes on her full
time occupation in the field of finance and investment
and devote all her time to Deema, which had been
registered in 2008 as the first ever national designing house
for luxury jewellery to be born in Oman.

Pan to 2017, not only has her dream turned into a successful
brand; she has let her passion soar in the world of style
and fashion by branching out into other related areas of
designing.

Her inception into the world of jewellery designing was
spurred by her observations that most Omani traditional
jewellery pieces weren’t practical for office wear or everyday
wear. She’d noted early on that the use of Omani jewellery was

Just TRAVEL RweitchoNnnaectture

Holidays that spell ‘nature’ are gaining popularity,
with travelers seeking destinations that are
intrinsically oriented towards environment
conservation

Reconnect with nature on your next holiday to experience mental and physical gratification that only
nature can prescribe with its scenic bounty. Take time to soak in the beauty that nature has carved out
to appease all your senses and, perhaps, appreciate the essence of William Henry Davies’ poem ‘Leisure’:

What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs and stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass, where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight, streams full of stars, like skies at night...
If you are a nature lover, you need no ruse to shake off the daily monotony and wander off to a nature
retreat; but if you have a busy schedule, with ‘no time to stand and stare’, and require that little prod in the
right direction, check the list of destinations below, sourced from TripsToDiscover.

Fashion is more than just the
clothes one wears; it is an art form
mastered by those who have learnt
the importance of accessories to

define their fashion statement

Simply put, accessorising is the art of putting the ‘look’ together. It is the value addition to even the most
exclusive designer outfit; it is the style quotient of the wearer. However, while right accessories can make or
accentuate a look, wrong, or say loud accessories can completely put a spoke in the fashion wheel.
It can ruin even the best of clothes, bringing to fore the importance of learning the finer nuances of
accessorising, either by following a trial and error method or emulating those who have mastered the art.
You could, of course, learn it right here, with this quick guide for the accessory-challenged:

ACCESSORISING TIPS

Create a harmony: When choosing accessories, make sure that it harmonises with
your outfit, whether it is the shoes, the handbag or even something as simple as a clip
on your hair. Accessories include everything that you add on to your outfit. Broadly
speaking, it includes shoes, handbags, eyeglasses and sunglasses, jewellery, scarves
and ties, hats, belts, hosiery and socks and hair ornaments. The idea should be to
ensure that there is a common element or an idea that flows between the accessory in
question and the outfit you are wearing. It could be the colour, texture or some aspect
of the design that adds to the harmony of your look. In addition to harmonising the
outfit with the accessories, try and find a balance between the different accessories.
It could be a metal appendage on the shoes and the bag or in the ornaments you are
wearing. Having said that though, do not hesitate to experiment with contrasts. Use
the trial and error method to find which contrast helps to rock your look.

Statement Sleeves

From cold shoulders that turned runway
fashion into an everyday trend to dramatic
statement sleeves, fashion is, indeed, a many
splendored thing

Fashion has, apparently, found inspiration from fairy tales
and historical plays, with eye-grabbing gigot sleeves and
an array of dramatic flares and ruffles continuing to rule
the fashion circuit.

The more exaggerated the sleeve, the better…

Designers have taken to sleeves in a big way this year, parading
every kind of sleeve conceivable, even embellishments and
ruffles. Exaggeration, it appears, has found newer definitions
of the sleeve kind, with the fashion runway scoring high on
statement sleeves. What made these trends win followers is the
ease with which fashion savvy ladies have adopted catwalk
styles without flinching at the drama on their sleeves.

While the cold shoulder and off-the-shoulder styles have had
their moments in the sun, the cold shoulder trend continues to
work its magic, carrying with it a sweet appeal that has made
it popular with fashionistas from their 20s to 50s. It is, perhaps,
the ease with which cold shoulder tops can be paired with any
skirt or trouser, unlike other dramatic sleeved tops that require
some attention to detail and panache to carry it right. The idea,
say fashion gurus, should be to create a harmonious look,
not an overdramatic ensemble with sleeves that could graze
people in a one-foot perimeter.

Some of the
sleeve trends
to look out for
include…

Ruffled sleeves

Ruffled sleeves look feminine,
even if you opt for a dramatic
touch. Depending on the
occasion and, of course, your
preference, you could opt

Bell sleeves Style FILe

There are long bell sleeves and
shorter ones too. These sleeves are
named so, as the sleeve comes with a
full flare at the hem, which gives it a
bell shape. The sleeves are fitted until
a certain part of your arm and then
flared out in a bell shape. The shorter
version is, generally, shorter than the
elbow.

Gigot sleeves

The gigot sleeve or the leg-of-mutton
sleeve is wide at the top and narrow at
the bottom. It is a dramatic style that
was popular in the 1800s, which was
all about flamboyant clothes.

Bishop sleeves

It is a long sleeve that is fitted from
shoulder to elbow and flared from
elbow to wrist, featuring even
ruffles on the cuffs. The flares are
gathered at the wrist by a cuff.

Every fashion addict, it
appears, has an ace up
the sleeve – find yours…

Even though it is
still scorching hot
outside, summer
is technically over
and I feel like this is
the perfect time to try
out the season’s most
controversial clothing
item - the romper
(‘Romphim’ to anyone
who’s masculinity is
fragile).

What is a romper?
It’s essentially a one piece and, despite being mostly
popular in a baby’s wardrobe, it has made its way to
the grown-up sections of stores. now, women have
been wearing them for a while and they come in
different styles, but earlier this summer they were
introduced for men.

The Internet blew up back in May/june and everyone
was talking about them, mostly negatively. They
became the joke of the Internet because people
compared them to the baby onesies. clearly, anyone
who’s a media sheep and is easily influenced would
have forgotten that women wear them, and I’m pretty
sure coveralls (construction, field engineering, etc.)
falls under the same category. Also, let’s not forget
that james Bond (Sean connery) donned them back
in 1964. Anyway, I decided to take some time to invest
in a custom-made pair (2…fine it’s 4).

I took them out for a test drive at a casual gathering at
a friend’s place to test the wear ability, and it fit like a
glove. A week later, I wore the other one to a karaoke
night and performing the hannah Montana song that
night was extremely easy - because of the durability
of the romper.

In conclusion,
rompers are brilliant,
incredible, amazing,
show-stopping,
spectacular, never-
the-same, and totally
unique; I recommend
them

Don’t know what to wear or don’t know
how to wear it…?

Taking a cue from the clichéd ‘style cannot be bought’, we take you
on a fashion circuit to show how you can find your panache with
the clothes you already have. You would be surprised how a little
tweak here or there can turn your outfit into a fashion ensemble.
Learn the fashion ropes to assess the clothes in your wardrobe and
find clever ways to style them to put your chic foot forward.

Button-up Scarf right

Who said button-up tops With winter all set to make a grand entry, you

are wearing it with a jacket,
wear it long to let it peek
from under the jacket. And, if
you prefer, wear it buttoned
all the way up and pair it with a statement necklace that doesn’t
clash with the top.

Tee time

Give your regular tee a style punch with twists and tucks. If you are
wearing mid rise pants, give it a careless half tuck in the middle,
and, if it is a high-waist skirt that you plan on wearing, opt for a
tighter tee, which you can tuck neatly in. Alternately, depending
on the occasion, go for the carefree look by giving it a small knot
on one side. If you are a white tee person, you could pair it with
bottoms of any colour or print or add a blazer or cardigan to add
some colour to your ensemble; if not, go for scarves or statement
necklaces.

Roll up

There is something just so distinct about rolled up sleeves…as if
comfort is all that matters to you at the fashion alter. Rolled up long
sleeves, even if you are wearing a classic shirt, can give you that
cool look.
