P R I M A R Y S C H O O L MONTHLY HIGHLIGHT Unity Through Diversity: The Power of Respecting Uniqueness Sumpah Pemuda, or the Youth Pledge, holds a special place in the hearts of Indonesians. It marks a significant moment in the country's history when young patriots came together to declare their commitment to national unity and the Indonesian language. The students at Sekolah Bogor Raya's primary level took the initiative to celebrate Sumpah Pemuda in a manner that truly reflects the spirit of this national occasion. By celebrating Sumpah Pemuda, the students learned to respect and celebrate their nation's unity. Celebrating Sumpah Pemuda through the flag ceremony has provided primary students with a powerful lesson in the value of unity through diversity. As they raise the Indonesian flag together, these young learners experience firsthand the importance of coming together in harmony, despite their diverse backgrounds. They learned that the red and white of the flag symbolize the unity of the Indonesian people, representing a nation built on respect for individual uniqueness and cultural diversity. The primary students also learned the importance of valuing diversity and uniqueness during the assembly. It began with the presentation of “The Superpowers of Primary Students” and digging deeper into the value of kindness. Through discussions and engaging presentations, they discovered that unity thrives on the richness of differences among individuals. “What makes you special?” was one of the questions that was given during the assembly. 6 Unity is also becoming an important value of Sumpah Pemuda. It can be fostered through the profound act of appreciating individual differences and celebrating the uniqueness of people. In a heartwarming display of unity, the primary students have come together to perform a vibrant and energetic Zumba, led by the grade 5 students, during the school assembly, highlighting their commitment to upholding the values of Sumpah Pemuda. This spirited event was not just a dance, but a powerful symbol of solidarity and togetherness. Celebrating Sumpah Pemuda is not just about remembering the past; it's about actively participating in the present and shaping the future. By doing so, they are not only honoring the heroes of the past but also preparing to become responsible citizens and leaders of Indonesia's bright future. (WA) It was heartwarming to see the enthusiasm of students when they tried to give their answers. They appreciate that everyone is unique and that kindness is a part of embracing those differences. As the activity continued, these young learners gained an understanding of how being kind, respecting each other's uniqueness and diverse backgrounds is essential in embracing the spirit of Sumpah Pemuda. P R I M A R Y S C H O O L MONTHLY HIGHLIGHT “Not Just People, Books Also Have Call Numbers?! Student Librarians’ Journey on Deepening The Books” When we hear “call number” we think of humans with their cell phones and homes with their cabled telephones, but what about books? This part of library management is not too unfamiliar, the librarian has taught the students about books’ call numbers before and during library skill activities. However, this time, it is being emphasized to the student librarians more. The work is rather independent and they have become skillful thinkers as well as reflective towards the end of the activity; Even the next week when asked about it, they could recall what they learned well. The activity resulted in many unlabeled books finally having a call number. Librarians will print the call number and the student librarians will have another fun activity to label each book from the call numbers that they have generated before. It will finally show the end products of their own works. (YT) 8 Vol.4 / October 2023 Student librarians have done their training and finally learned about call numbers, by identifying the book’s title, authorship, and the DDC also known as the code of the book’s subjects. Some of them were confused, it was a new thing for them, they did not expect that it would be medium-hard, and only a few were taking it as an easy activity. Each student has different capabilities and results, but all of them have worked well and inquired even further by trying to memorize some of the DDC so they don’t have to look back and forth through the Student Librarian’s Handbook or even explore the whole non-fiction shelf to check the numbers one by one. Student Librarians’ activities from week 2 until 4, they learn how to identify books through call numbers and genreficating easy reading books for grade 1-3

P R I M A R Y S C H O O L CLASS AT A GLANCE On October 28th, we celebrated Youth Pledge Day or Sumpah Pemuda, one of the big national events. To celebrate it, on Monday 23rd October, students had a flag raising ceremony to remind them again that small steps can change the world. In the classroom, students also drew themselves and identified their uniqueness. They understand that every student is unique and everybody has a chance to change the world. We realized why it needs to be celebrated every year, it is to remind us about the importance of unity above differences. Students also described what they could do for Indonesia as students and tried to start their action by spreading kindness everywhere. 11 Vol.4 / October 2023 Grade 3 Small Steps Can Change the World What did we serve in the classroom? Hands-on learning through science experiments allowed students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Under the transdisciplinary theme “How The World Works”, first after the students did an experiment, they continued to become an inventor. They started the invention by identifying the problems that they faced in their daily activities. The students tried to see around and reflect on what energy that they usually used in everyday life. Second, they did analysis by using a design thinking process starting from empathy to see who they were trying to help. Next, they define the problem and ideate all the ideas that came into their mind to solve the problem. Then, they designed a prototype. They drew the design of the product based on the idea they chose previously. The design must be explained and drawn clearly because they will continue to make the prototype of their product using materials prepared by the teacher in the form of used cardboard, tissue cardboard, paper cups, string, etc. They must use creative thinking skills to build their prototypes. Their invention not only showcases the power of youthful creativity but also contributes to the ongoing global effort to combat energy problems. It demonstrates the remarkable power of youthful creativity and ingenuity when harnessed to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time. And now, we are entering November and welcoming theme 3 under the transdisciplinary theme How We Express Ourselves. We are going to learn about art in this unit. And as part of the project, they will have art exhibitions by doing a performance, artwork display, etc. It's going to be amazing! P R I M A R Y S C H O O L CLASS AT A GLANCE ... Our students began this journey with a class discussion that aimed to uncover what makes each of them special. This exercise encouraged them to embrace their unique qualities and characteristics. As they shared their thoughts and experiences, they discovered that celebrating individuality is a key element of building a harmonious community. In a creative twist, each student drew a self-portrait. Accompanying their artwork, they listed the unique qualities and characteristics they believed they possessed. This exercise not only showcased their artistic talents but also allowed them to express their individuality. The self-portraits became a visual representation of their uniqueness. 14 Vol.4 / October 2023 Students also recently had a great discussion about what it takes to build a community where everyone gets along and supports each other. We agreed that talking openly and honestly is really important. When we share our thoughts and listen to each other, we understand each other better and can solve problems together. To make sure everyone feels heard and understood, we want to get better at listening. We have to be able to listen without judging and really understand what others are saying. We believe it's important to have some common values in our community. It's important to show respect, empathy, kindness, and tolerance to each other. These values should be at the heart of our community. We also believe that it's important to include everyone, no matter where they come from or what they believe. As we celebrate the achievements during this program, let's remember that the spirit of unity and harmony should extend beyond special occasions. In our ongoing learning adventure under Theme 3, we're currently exploring "How We Organize Ourselves." Our students are eagerly diving into the exciting world of government, society, and the big impacts of decisions made by those in charge. In this unit, our students have been learning about the diverse forms of government that exist around the world. They've explored democracies, monarchies, dictatorships, and other government systems. Through this exploration, they've gained insights into how these different forms of government function and the roles they play in society. For the next learning journey, our Grade 6 students will also examine environmental issues that concern impacting the decisions made by governments and also the choices that have been made by the government can have a big impact on people’s lives. They will learn how governments respond to these challenges, shape policies, and work towards solutions. Additionally, we're planning an exciting field trip to "Dinas Lingkungan Hidup" where our students will get a chance to learn even more. They'll discover how this organization works to safeguard our environment and what they do to keep our surroundings clean and healthy. This trip will give our students an experience to better understand how government and environmental issues are connected, and we can't wait to share more about it in the future! S E C O N D A R Y S C H O O L N E W S Improve Public Speaking Skills through MC’s Club Sekolah Bogor Raya is committed to nurturing the next generation of culturally aware, lifelong learners and thinkers who are compassionate, knowledgeable, and engaged citizens of the world. To achieve this vision, there are some steps that we apply in school life. One of those steps is to explore every learner’s potential so that they can be catalysts of learning, make a positive impact in the world, and enrich those around them. Student Leadership Club (SLC) is one of the answers for that. There are so many clubs provided by the school for secondary students. MC’s club is one of them. As we know, a Master of Ceremonies (MC or emcee) plays a crucial role in the success of any event. The Master of Ceremonies helps to represent the conference or event as a whole, while keeping the show on schedule and keeping the audience engaged. Some problems arise when being an MC. Some students may lack confidence and struggle to find the right words to express themselves. Others feel too shy to talk in front of many people. In response to these challenges, the MC’s club strives to embrace our students’ potential and improve their public speaking skills in various ways. Through consistent practice, students who join the MC club can analyze their strengths and weaknesses, especially in the context of public speaking. S E C O N D A R Y S C H O O L N E W S Bye-Bye Plastic Bags SLC Bye-Bye Plastic Bags is a group of SBR students who are putting in efforts to join a global movement aimed at reducing and eliminating the use of single-use plastic bags. The group is concerned about the deteriorating condition of our Mother Earth, exacerbated by various environmental problems, with the most significant issue being the accumulation of waste. The most dangerous being the plastic waste, because most plastics in use today are made of polyethylene terephthalate, or PET for short, and are nearly indestructible. It is nearly impossible to decompose PET plastics because most bacteria cannot break them down. UV light from the sun can break plastic down, but it takes a long time. In the program named SBR Bank Sampah, the SLC Bye-Bye Plastic Bags tries to continue the program that has been started since the last academic year, when celebrating International Earth Day on April 22 2023. We would like to create a habit of collecting plastic waste in the SBR community, taking it from home and bringing it to school. What for? We work collaboratively with BASIBA (Bank Sampah Berbasis Aparatur), a waste bank in Bogor City. The plastic waste’s weight will be measured and as a return, BASIBA will pay an amount of money that will be transferred to SBR Bank Sampah account. The money we get will then be used for the school’s service activities. To conduct the SBR Bank Sampah program in this academic year 2023-2024, SLC Bye-Bye Plastic Bags will work together with the Student Council of Junior and Senior High School, and Class Representatives. We plan to start it with socialisation of all classes in secondary level at the beginning of November, and then the implementation of the program, a week after the socialisation. If the SBR Bank Sampah program runs well in the secondary level, at the beginning of Term 3, we will invite the PGK and primary levels to join this movement. (Aya Akaaboune - Gr. 10) 20 Vol.4 / October 2023 BADMINTON COMPETITION We attended a sports event called SIS-PIK Cup: Skywards. Which was held from 16th-23rd of September 2023. This event was organized by students for their CAS project and was open to all schools. There were different types of competitions like basketball, volleyball, badminton, and other kinds of sports. We had two teams representing the school. One team was the boys team that consisted of Christio (10A) and Russel (10C), and another team was the girls team that consisted of Elysia (10B) and Kenar (10B). We began with the selection of who would be representing the school. This decision was made during practice. Soon enough, we had our practice. It took us 2-3 weeks to fully prepare ourselves for the competition. We practiced every monday after school in the DSA, and we even booked a badminton court to practice outside of school hours. ...

S E C O N D A R Y S C H O O L N E W S There is also a lot that we can learn from this competition. I'm pretty sure we all can agree that teamwork and practice are key parts of this journey. We would like to thank the school for giving us the opportunity to compete and represent our beloved school. The students trekked through the breathtaking Bukit Peramun, witnessed the underwater wonderland by snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters of Pulau Lengkuas, and experienced the thrill of caving on the mystic Pulau Kelayang. Adding a dash of adrenaline, they engaged in water sports at Pantai Tanjung Tinggi. This journey was about more than just adventure; it was an opportunity for these students to expand their horizons, embrace new cultures, and forge bonds that will last a lifetime. ... Then, it was finally the day of the competition. For the boys' team, they had 2 days, while the girls' team only had 1 day. There was a day where we headed to SIS-PIK together with SBR’s car. We had our lunch upon arriving and waited for our competition time. Even though the result of our competition was not as we had expected, we still had so much fun together and also made friends with some students from another school. While we didn't expect to win, we played for fun, relishing the small improvements we made. We are glad that this competition can be a part of our journey in badminton. 21 Vol.4 / October 2023 My CAS Trip to Belitung Highlights: Learning and Fun We attended a sports event called SIS-PIK Cup: Skywards. S E C O N D A R Y S C H O O L N E W S Love in this year’s Forum OSIS includes the environment and future business projects. Under the theme of ‘EcoVenture: Unleashing Future Environmental and Business Endeavours,” we aim to create a series of activities to highlight the importance of projects that entail both business and environmental aspects, especially projects that can be created by and for the students. We realized the massive challenge for student-led organizations to be able to incorporate these two aspects; if it is too business-oriented, the environment would be disregarded and harmed, and if it is too environmentally-oriented, no profit will be made. SBR FORUM OSIS SMA 2023 “I want to know know know know. On behalf of the Senior High School Student Council of 2023-2024, the wisdom and connections gained throughout the event will be irreplaceable as we continue on our journey in hosting events and even beyond.

This reflects the depth of knowledge and maturity our students acquire through their MUN journey. But MUN isn't just about winning awards. It's about nurturing leaders and global citizens. Dominick (G12) received an Honorable Mention for his contributions to the G20 council at SISKG MUN. This is a testament to the dedication, research, and public speaking skills students gain through their MUN experience, which are invaluable for their future academic and professional endeavors. Beyond academic achievements, MUN hones socio-emotional skills that are vital for personal growth and success. Students learn to empathize, communicate effectively, and negotiate with peers from diverse backgrounds, fostering a global perspective that goes beyond borders. MUN also cultivates resilience and adaptability. In a fast-paced environment, students must think on their feet and adjust strategies quickly. These skills are invaluable in a rapidly changing world. Furthermore, MUN encourages a sense of responsibility and a commitment to making a positive impact on the world. By tackling complex global issues and seeking solutions through cooperation and diplomacy, students are inspired to become active, informed citizens who are ready to address real-world problems. Sekolah Bogor Raya's MUN team is dedicated to nurturing well-rounded individuals, and the success at the SISKG MUN is a testament to our students' dedication. We will continue to empower our students to excel in their academic journeys while becoming compassionate, effective, and globally aware leaders, with MUN remaining a cornerstone of this endeavor.

This event, hosted by Sekolah Bogor Raya, proved to be an educational celebration that opened doors to a world of opportunities for our students and their families. The 12th graders worked tirelessly for weeks to plan this thought-provoking conference .Under the leadership of TOK Coordinator Mr. Chris England, the students designed imaginative games and activities to deeply explore the theme. The students also managed all logistics, prepared materials, invited teams from other schools, and ensured the day ran smoothly. SBR 12th Graders Lead Successful TOK Conference Teams of IBDP students from Mentari Intercultural School Jakarta (MISJ), Beacon Academy, North Jakarta Intercultural School (NJIS), and SBR 11th graders participated in the conference. This is Faith and Kanika, and we would like to share a little bit about our Spelling Bee journey! On the 23rd of October 2023, we went to BINUS School Simprug to compete in their Spelling Bee competition, which we spent countless hours of preparation on. Only one thing was going through our minds, and it was “This is it. The day we’ve prepared so much for. We need to win this.” As we entered the competition hall, we felt a sense of pressure on us. In the room, there were only the teams, the quizmasters, and our coaches, and we could feel Mr Chris Thompson watch every single one of our moves. However, it wasn’t only pressure that we felt, we also felt a mixture of nervousness and excitement as we stood among other hopeful spellers. The competition was fierce, and each word presented was a challenge. We still remember the feeling of relief and accomplishment when we successfully spelled a word, and the sinking disappointment when we didn't. As we advanced through the rounds, we could see the camaraderie that developed among participants. For us, the journey through the world of spelling bees has been a rollercoaster of emotions, a test of knowledge and composure, and a celebration of language. Although we were a bit disappointed that we got 2nd place, what matters more is the experience that we had from this. It's a reminder that language is a living, breathing entity that evolves, and spelling bees are a testament to the beauty and complexity of the English language. As participants, we’ve gained more than just the ability to spell words; we’ve acquired a profound respect for language and the dedication it takes to master it. The journey through the world of spelling bees has been an unforgettable chapter in our life, one filled with words, dreams, and the unshakable belief that, with the right effort and passion, anything is possible. We shared stories of long study sessions, the thrill of discovering new words, and the support of our families and friends. It was a reminder that while spelling bees are competitive, they are also a celebration of learning and language.
