break, I chose a cooking activity to put my heart at
ease. And here are some tips to keep me busy
during the holiday and you can do it as well.
The first activity I chose was to cook ombre pasta.
I made the pasta from flour, water, and egg. I mix
all the ingredients until it becomes a perfect
dough. After that, I divide the dough into three
parts, and I put some food coloring and mix it well.
Then I combined the three colored dough and

knife or a slicer. Remember, if it's your first time
using a knife, make sure to ask for an adult’s help
to cut it. So it's time to cook the pasta. I boiled the
pasta for 8-12 minutes, and I added my favorite
seasoning, which is carbonara and ready to serve.
The second activity I chose was to make a flower
doughnut. This one is also a very simple activity
that you can re-do at home. First, I prepared flour,
eggs, yeast, sugar, and milk. After that, I mixed all
the ingredients and kneaded them with my hands
until the dough was stretchy. I have to wait around
30 minutes to make sure the dough rises well.
Then, I kneaded the dough again and flattened it
with a rolling pin, printed it with a cute flower
cutter, and neatly organized it one by one. Wait
again for 10 minutes, and the dough is ready to
fry. Remember, you can ask an adult to help on
this part because we are working with hot oil. Last
but not least, I decorated my doughnut with melted
chocolate, or you can spread the butter on the top
and add some sprinkle. And it's ready to serve.

Growing up in a scorching desert, followed by years of living in a big city, I had no
idea what to do with our little plot of land. But our school break was the perfect
opportunity to change that! While we may have had to keep close to home this
holiday, it was still important to get some sunshine and stay busy. First, we
started simply by making a plan. Then, came the real work; It took a full day of
hard work, but we managed to pull and uproot all of the weeds and trim our trees.
Over the next couple of days we got to work leveling the land with sand, laying
down stones, and my favorite part...deciding what to plant in our new vegetable
garden area! It took about four days total and a lot of heavy lifting, but we
managed to tame and upgrade our little space. It was a really fun challenge and

MY PANDEMIC SCHOOL BREAK EXPERIENCE
Hi! My name is Bryan, an expat (Filipino) PE teacher in Sekolah Bogor
Raya. I would like to share with you something about the activities my
family had during our pandemic school break.
My family already knew that our vacation would not be as fun and
exciting compared to the previous years like we could travel wherever we
wanted to, going back home to the Philippines to meet our loved ones,
staying at a hotel, going to the zoo, visiting an interesting place, doing
some fun adventures.
Before the PPKM darurat, My family went to a fishing resort
where we enjoyed catching fish and had a small picnic in the
place, taking advantage of the fresh air and morning mountain
breeze.
Take note, the best time to go there is on weekdays and better come early in the opening time while the place
is still empty, and of course we have followed the health protocols by wearing masks, hand sanitizers and
observed social distancing while in the vicinity.
When the PPKM Darurat broke out, it was a bit sad but we were still able to do some activities outdoors like
biking, jogging, playing badminton in front of our house, planting vegetables in the backyard and walking with
our dog early in the morning or late afternoon, we are a bit lucky to do these activities because our
neighborhood is not crowded with people nor cars and motorcycles passing by (our house is in jalan buntu).
Indoor activities are more safe than outdoors so we also had time together with our kids inside our house and
did educational learning activities, fun games, online games, etc.
Despite the changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, there's still plenty of fun to be had. Seeking out fun
activities may be even more important now.
Doing something you enjoy can distract you from problems and help you cope with life's challenges.

DO YOU KNOW
WHAT I DID THIS SUMMER?
-Aditya Rao-
As much as I would’ve liked to have a suspense thriller summer like the one the title suggests, my summer
break was extreme in a different way. I spent the summer meditating in a meditation retreat centre - cut off
from the world.
For the last 4 years, it has become an annual ritual for me to renounce the world, take a vow of silence, cut
off all technological ties (internet, social media, phone, kindle, everything), and live the life of a renunciate
for 10 days. My schedule during these retreats begins at 4 AM. After my morning ablutions I begin to
meditate at 4.30 AM. With short breaks for breakfast and lunch (there is no dinner), I meditate until about 8
PM. Following a short discourse on the meditative technique, I am in bed by 9.30 PM. I adhere to this
exacting schedule continuously for the whole 10 day duration of the retreat. I do not communicate with
anyone (not even by gesturing), I do not read anything, I do not write. In short, I endeavour to completely
shut off the outside world and look inwards.
Why do I do this? Quite simply put, this method of meditation offers me
a chance to deeply introspect, to learn my own inner truths in a manner
that is impossible to do out in the world with all its distractions and
responsibilities. This retreat into my own self every year equips me to
face the trials and tribulations of a constantly changing world in a much
more calm and assured manner. By observing the changing nature of

LEARNING TOGETHER WITH AN SBR PARENT
Ibu Linda Kayhz is a mother of three children in Sekolah
Bogor Raya. She is a digital content creator. Her hobbies
include artistic activities, cooking and exercising.
She mentioned there are benefits and challenges that we
can face in this digital world.
The benefits are:
1. We can stay in touch with family, friends and work
remotely even if we are in another part of the world.
2. People with internet access can now explore a huge
proportion of the world’s knowledge. It can develop them
as a human being to become more knowledgeable, skillful
and confident.
And a lot more...
While the challenges are: all forms of traditional culture and our conception
of human nature are under challenge. Also, it is a big challenge to construct
trust in an environment of anonymity and manipulation.
As a parent that has 3 children in SBR, it is pretty hard, but she still can
manage her time in supporting her children studying at home, while still
allocating time to do her other activities. She couldn’t do it without the
support from the teachers and family members.
The kids themselves work really hard, doing their best in fulfilling school
tasks, in learning and adapting to the online learning environment which is
new to them. This makes her proud of her children too.
She made this particular timetable that is kid friendly. The timetable also
includes the link to the classroom, so her children can just open this all-
in-one timetable, no more juggling from one application to another. This
timetable has made such a huge difference. It gave not only her, but also
her children, the efficiency that they needed.
She finds that keeping the children supervised from afar during online
classes works best for her children—and for her. By doing so, she and her
children can work on their homework immediately after school time, and
it will not take too much time since she already gets the general idea of
the assignments.
The point is to not postpone.
Her personal motto is Hasbunallah Wani’amal wakil; Allah is sufficient for us, and (He is) the best
Disposer of affairs.
