MAY JUNE 2023

E M B RA C E Ele c t r o nic M a g a zin e S e k ola h B o g o r R a y a's A r t s, C ult u r e a n d E v e n t s Vol. 9/ MAY - JUNE 2023

Dear Students, Staff, and Families, It feels like just yesterday that we started this school year, and in a blink of an eye, we are already approaching the last month and are getting ready to close this school year. Within this academic year, all students have gone through many learning experiences and journeys, in and outside the classroom and through school programs or events. For me, accompanying and witnessing all our school's learning processes and journeys is a luxury I cannot obtain anywhere else. The students enjoyed themselves and were enthusiastic about all the activities carried out at school. Some of the activities that deserve our thumbs up are the SBR Walk and Musical Production, which were prepared, designed, and executed by the students directly; their involvement in these activities was not only as participants but also as organizers. In the middle of the busy academic activities and the demands to maintain their academic achievements, they are still able and willing to allocate their efforts and time to be directly involved in all the preparation and implementation processes of these activities. What makes me happier besides seeing the success of these events is the fact that it is through these events that students sharpen their life skills such as discipline, teamwork, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, crisis management, and other positive impacts that will be very useful for them in the future. Of course, this would not have been possible without the intervention of teachers and parents, who always provide unending support. These weeks the students are facing the final exam week, and the teachers will undoubtedly be very busy marking exams, recapitulating grades, and filling out report cards. The weeks at the end of the year feel different; the speed and variety of activities are very dynamic, coupled with several events that occur almost every weekend. Last Saturday, June 3, 2023, grade 12 students held their graduation ceremony, marking many milestones, from completing academic programs or specialized courses to transitioning into adulthood. I congratulate all students, teachers, and parents for all your hard work. Especially for all students who are graduating, congratulations on entering a new stage in your educational journey. I hope you have an open-minded attitude toward learning, explore various avenues of knowledge, and find your true passion. Ensure that you will become a responsible global citizen and pursue meaningful careers where you can positively impact society while still achieving personal fulfillment. For Prep, Grade 6, and Grade 9 students who also celebrate the commencement day on June 10, 2023, congratulation on entering a new stage in your learning chapter. Enjoy all the processes of your learning journey, be yourself with all your uniqueness, and never be afraid to try new challenges because life never goes backward. Once again, I congratulate all SBR community members for all our achievements this academic year. Let's maintain and continue to add positive, useful, and happy things in the coming academic year. 1 Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 From SBR's Academic Director Ibu Fransiska Susilawati

P L A Y G R O U P & K I N D E R G A R T E N K1-PREP We also celebrate our learning journey by making the Learning Celebration event in the PGK playground. This time, we invite the parents to join our celebration by making a sandwich from the lettuce we planted this term. 2 K1 It’s almost the end of the school year, but we are still going to have a lot of fun during this time. In this theme, “Animals and Plants Around Us,” K1 students had an exciting excursion to Kuntum Farmfield, where they had the opportunity to see and learn about different farm animals such as cows, sheep, goats, turkeys, swans, and many more. We delighted ourselves with the fresh air and the green atmosphere. The children loved feeding the animals and even got to pet some of them. At first, Elton was hesitant to pet the rabbit, but after a while, he encouraged himself to pet it. Ken also enjoyed his time feeding the rabbit. We believe that visiting the farm provided an excellent opportunity for K1 students to learn about the importance of agriculture, where their food comes from, and how to appreciate the hard work that goes into it. Overall it was a beautiful day filled with memories that our little farmers will cherish. This fun activity will teach our students the sense of responsibility from caring for plants and gain selfconfidence from achieving their goals and enjoying the food they have grown. Finally, after this year of a fun journey, it’s time to congratulate our K1 students for every achievement and progress they have made. Just like the plant, with nurture and love, we are growing! See you on the next school year's adventure! Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023

P L A Y G R O U P & K I N D E R G A R T E N K1-PREP 3 We are now at the end of theme 4 under the Transdisciplinary Theme, “How We Organize Ourselves.” K2 students develop an understanding of how transportation works and the different kinds of transportation by visiting the Transportation Museum. Starting with the See Future Transportation at the museum, we walked around to see the different kinds of transportation, colored the future transportation, and ended up going by the locomotive train. Deva and Gwen become inquirers as they mention the function of each transportation based on its place. Floryna also showed good thinking skills as she was able to do the one-to-one correspondence activity by pinching the right amount of pegs onto the flashcard. Grishmi and Gemintang showed good thinking skills as they mentioned the kinds of transportation while pasting them on the Transportation Pop-Up Card. K2 The seasons of love are coming! PGK students showed their best performance by representing Spring. K2 students showed great enthusiasm during the EYP (End of Year Performance). They became risk-takers by showing good performance in front of their parents, friends, and teachers. K2A students danced “I’m Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee,” while K2B danced “Five Flowers” confidently and danced together at the end of the performance. It was a very challenging, fun, and warm year with very kind and lovely students and parents. We wish you the best for next year with a new challenge and a fun time at K3. See you when we see you, K2 students! Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023

P L A Y G R O U P & K I N D E R G A R T E N K1-PREP 4 K3 Time flies so fast. This academic year has been a marvelous journey. In this last theme, K3 students learned about “Sharing the Planet,” which focuses on how plants play an important role in people’s lives, such as knowing the benefits of eating vegetables, distinguishing edible and non-edible plants, and how to take care of plants. To support this learning and for students to gain knowledge about the plants, on Thursday, 25 May 2023, we went to Organic Field KWT Pendopo. We had a lot of fun, hands-on experience on how to take care of a plant and got a lot of information about the plants that are edible and non-edible plants. On the other hand, by joining this activity, students learn to have a commitment and be responsible in taking care of the morning glory given by Pendopo. Another fun learning experience was the students recognized some traffic signs by doing a role-play as a cyclist as they also developed their gross motor skills. Congratulations, K3 students! Good luck with your next academic journey to the next level. Beside the mentioned activities above, K3 showed their skills in making watermelon juice as Danis was able to follow all the steps from scooping out the watermelon and blending it during the Health-Related Fitness learning activity. Next we have Marcello that showed a good understanding of creating A-B-C patterns using 3 different colors that they chose from the watercolor paint correctly. Lastly, Megan showed her ability to measure the height of the plant that she planted using non-standard units (paper clips) independently. Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023

P L A Y G R O U P & K I N D E R G A R T E N K1-PREP Michael was able to pick up the phone and speak loudly at the receptionist's table. Then, Arvino mentioned that the receptionist was the one who gave the room key to the guest. On the other hand, Leia smiles and bows to greet the customer at the front door. When we were in the hotel, we had the opportunity to make burgers with the chef. Aqeela enjoyed her pretend-play as a chef. She carefully put each layer to make the burgers neat. As the learning continued at school, Andrew mentioned that the best part for him was when he had the cooking activity with the chef. This follows Austin's statement that he likes to be the customer in the restaurant. . The students also decorated and presented their pop-up books along with their roles in each community. With this learning, all the students gained new knowledge about the community and its roles around us. 5 PREP “How We Organize Ourselves” is the last theme that Prep students have this year. We learn about the community around us. Prep students had the opportunity to go to 101 Hotel in Bogor to see different roles in the hotel. To strengthen the students' understanding, they had the chance to choose the role they wanted to see and did a role play in the hotel. All the students were so excited during the excursion since this was their first time visiting a hotel with friends. The students' enthusiasm was seen when they did the role play. Tiny tots, tiny toes… They’re dressed up in little itty-bitty graduation clothes. The year has come and gone so quickly. We have grown together, and it has been an amazing year watching each student grow and learn. Prep students’ achievement of learning in the year 2022-2023 led us to hold a graduation ceremony to celebrate the amazing year we had together. The excitement of this special moment is truly seen as we had a full year of learning and held the graduation ceremony after the pandemic situation. Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 The school year of 2022-2023 is amazingly wrapped by the End of Year Performance with the theme, “Season of Love.” Prep represented springtime in Europe, such as Italy, Netherlands, and Germany through dance. Last but not least, congratulations, Preps, and good luck for your next journey!

P Y P I N A C T I O N PRIMARY SCHOOL HIGHLIGHT One of life's greatest lessons is understanding the value of giving or sharing. Giving promotes positive values. Giving can take many forms, especially among humans: we give gifts, our time, resources, support, emotions, and others. This month, we had an opportunity to share our love by participating in the small movement called "Old Shoes New Journey". This movement allowed us to donate our old shoes to our friends in Tanggedu, Mondu Village, East Sumba, and East Nusa Tenggara Province. 6 Old Shoes, New Journey! This movement has involved grade 4, grade 5, and grade 6 students. Having this event has motivated the student agency and encouraged it with the values of empathy and tolerance. We formed our small committee, created posters to persuade our friends to donate their shoes, took and sorted the hundreds of shoes, and wrote a heartwarming message for the receivers. We successfully collected about 107 shoes that are still in excellent condition. We understood that not all people have the same opportunities or good life. We have learned that a willingness to help others is empowering and can make us feel happier and more fulfilled. The other miracle is that the more we give or share, the more we have. Thank you, Sekolah Bogor Raya, for this meaningful learning experience! (WA) Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 Sharing is Caring. The more we give, the more we receive.

P Y P I N A C T I O N PRIMARY SCHOOL HIGHLIGHT A Symphony of Souls. A performance inspired by the amazing Sound of Music was performed and well executed by our Sekolah Bogor Raya students. For the first time in the journey of Musical Drama in SBR, they performed the Symphony of Souls for two days in a row, Friday and Saturday, 19th and 20th of May, 2023, from 4 to 6 PM. They prepared this musical performance for about seven months, involving the participants' perseverance. Continuous practice and endless teamwork behind the scenes make the performance worth the wait. 7 A Symphony of Souls The performance itself was very entertaining to watch. The students who played as the SoS characters could give their best through acting, singing, and dancing. They even adjusted the script to make things more engaging with something related to their daily lives. They showed their best performance in those two days' performances. Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 A Symphony of Souls delivered something new. The essence of Indonesian culture can be seen through the outfit they wore, the names of the characters, and the scenes in the play. During this performance, we can see the collaboration between all departments in Sekolah Bogor Raya, starting from PGK, Primary to Secondary level. The collaboration can be seen during the performance and long before it began. The students enjoyed the process, and we should not forget the teachers who became their mentors. These amazing teachers gave their energy, time, and effort to make this event successful. We hope this kind of activity will benefit our students, enrich their experience, motivate them more, and improve themselves as individuals. (AW) It was so fun to be a part of S.O.S!

P Y P I N A C T I O N CLASS AT A GLANCE 8 On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at DSA Sekolah Bogor Raya, First Graders celebrated choral reading, writing, and art exhibition. The long-awaited moment was successful. The students' performances were breathtaking. This activity proves students' communication skills. The event was a success thanks to the cooperation and support between students, teachers, and parents. Not only the choral reading but also the exposition was important. Parents were invited to see their children's achievements in storytelling, puppet making, and creating a sequential story with augmented imagination. Grade 1 Grade 1 ended their second semester with theme 6 of "How We Express Ourselves." Through this theme, They explored more about stories by learning the various ways of telling a story, what the story tells, and how to create stories. They also used a series of pictures to develop a story in Bahasa, Indonesia. This year, Grade 1 students participated in a Choral Reading to learn how to narrate stories. Choral reading is reading aloud with the whole class or a group of students that helps build students' language skills, confidence, and motivation. Choral reading is also a great way for kids to access good reading samples from the teacher and other kids in the class. The Excitement of Theme 6 Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 The activities they had for this theme were enjoyable. In Mathematics class, students practice using an analog clock to tell time to the hour, half an hour, and quarter pass. For the Art lesson, the students made puppets. They have developed their creativity and fine motor skills by folding, cutting, and pasting. After three years, finally, we can celebrate the "End of Year Performance." We are more than happy to invite parents to see students' performance. Grade 1 students will show their singing and dancing skills talents. Now, they are currently rehearsing for that great show. (IA) The Excitement of Theme 6

P Y P I N A C T I O N CLASS AT A GLANCE 9 Grade 2 Grade 2 students are at the end of their learning journey together as a family after one academic year. Under Theme 6, Sharing The Planet, they have learned and practiced many new things to develop their critical thinking, research skills, and sharing ideas logically. The learning engagement of each subject invited students to improvise their abilities as inquirers, knowledgeable, and creative learners. Remember Us This Way This theme becomes more interesting for Grade 2 students because they can meet and learn directly with the education team from Borneo Orangutans Survival Foundation. This experience was fascinating, giving them information about orangutans' lives and the actions to save them. To support our learning that living things need to adapt to their habitats in order to survive, Grade 2 students also visited and studied together in the Freshwater and Insects World in TMII, Jakarta. They were so happy and curious to collect information about the animals from the guide. At the same time, they were able to use their critical thinking and communication skills to make connections and discuss how and why living things need to adapt and survive in a new environment. Despite all the past experiences, we are grateful for having fought together and enjoyed many times as a family. Hopefully, the knowledge and values given can be useful and timeless. Now, we want to embrace our friendships and express our pride because we survived. And we will always remember these days. P Y P I N A C T I O N CLASS AT A GLANCE 10 Grade 3 In the very last theme of this academic year, under the theme "Sharing the Planet, "3rd graders are learning about water. We initiated the topic by learning about the sources of the water. Even though students have got prior knowledge about the bodies of water since theme 5, where the students learned about the Earth's geographical features, in this theme, students identify more which of the bodies of water can be said as the source of water to be used or consumed by people. Water; Essential but limited Second, students had the experience of visiting IPA (Water Treatment Installation) DEKENG. From this excursion, students could see how the water from the sources, which is from the river, is processed to result in the water that can be used or consumed by people. Students saw every step, such as coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, and disinfection. We also understood that before the water is distributed to the consumers, it still needs physical, biological, and chemical testing. Students are excited and engaged in learning about this topic since water is close to us, and we realize how beneficial it is for our daily activities. However, on the other hand, we are also surprised that only 1% of fresh water is available on Earth. That is why it is important to conserve and use the water wisely. As a student action to encourage people to use water wisely, we plan to campaign to the lower grade. I can't wait to share the knowledge! (ND) Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 To enrich students' learning experiences and understandings of how the source water is processed to produce clean water first, by having the water filtration experiment. Students have the hands-on activity to make the layers to filter water that consists of cotton, dacron, activated carbon, and silica sand. First, they tried to filter dirty water, and they observed that by passing through the layers, the water got filtered and dropped the clean water. Students felt satisfied with the result. P Y P I N A C T I O N CLASS AT A GLANCE 11 Grade 4 "Who We Are" is the theme in which the Grade 4 students explored the human body and the habits we can do to keep ourselves healthy. It has been an incredible journey where the students learned in depth about the body systems, such as the respiratory, digestive, nervous, and circulatory systems. The students also discovered the bacteria and viruses that could make us sick. H e alt h y B o d y, H e alt h y Lif e! To support the learning journey, we visited Museum Imeri (Indonesia Museum of Health and Medicine) in FKUI, Jakarta. The students had hands-on experience with the model of internal organs in the human body, all the medical tools throughout history, and the stories of medicine and doctors in Indonesia. Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 The Grade 4 students had the opportunity to visit Museum Imeri (Indonesia Museum of Health and Medicine) to support our learning journey about the human body system. The Museum Imery was located in Salemba area, Jakarta. We went on school buses, and it took around 1,5 hours to reach the destination. Museum Imeri was placed inside the FKUI, a medical faculty at Universitas Indonesia. The place was very modern; it featured modern installations of the latest medical apparatus, a medical journey in Indonesia, an extensive display of hospital tools, and the history of doctors in the country. The students had hands-on experience by touching the 3D models of the human body, replicas, or medical tools and watching videos regarding health and medicine from around the world. It was an incredible experience as the students also saw the internal organs of the human body, the arrangements of skeletons, and the flow of blood, and discovered how the human body protects itself against diseases. Everyone was curious and inspired by the medical world we explored at Museum Imeri. After all these exciting moments, we have finally reached the end of our learning journey in Grade 4. The students have worked hard for the Semester exams and are now in the middle of preparing for End of Year Performances. Everyone was thrilled since we haven't had one due to the pandemic. We spent every single day practicing for the performance, did rehearsals, did costume fittings, and reminded each other about all the incredible things that we had spent in Grade 4. This year has been a memorable journey for the Grade 4 students. We learned so much, explored new things, discovered important facts, and bonded closer with everyone, and we are ready to join Grade 5! P Y P I N A C T I O N CLASS AT A GLANCE 12 Becoming Agent of Change: The Students are Encouraged to Innovate Green and Sustainable Technology In this Where We are in Place and Time unit of Inquiry, The success of innovation and the development of technology trends in recent years depends on how innovative people can create things to ease their life, become more efficient, sustainable in resources, and environmentally friendly. In this Where We Are in Place and Time unit of inquiry, grade 5 students were encouraged to analyze the problems of the environment, innovate any technology ideas to solve the problem, and design and plan to carry it out using the SMART analysis thinking tool. They must ensure the design is set in specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) objectives. This is a good way to learn to plan the steps and meet the long-term goals in their grant. This thinking tool helps the student to grant ideas into action. The students came out with a very imaginative idea that was unique and out of the box. Every idea and creativity are appreciated, valued, and respected by the students. The other students can also give opinions and feedback on other friends' innovations. Mayo from 5C designs a carbon dioxide-oxygen converter as a solution to solve a large number of gas emissions on Earth. At the same time, Adelle from 5B has the idea to create a car navigator that connects to a Mind Reading device. This type of navigation can transmit people's minds so that the car can follow through with the instruction automatically. Mackenzie from 5A designs an Animal Communicator Device. She has an idea to transmit human language to the animal and vice versa so that communication can lead to better understanding, empathy, and caring. Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 Grade 5 Students express themselves through "Symphony of Soul." Symphony of Soul is a musical school production that brings another enthusiasm to Grade 5 students, as they can be part of the cast in this awesome project. Some students are chosen after the series of auditions conducted by the committee of this event production. Some students involved are Angel (5A), Ayra (5C), (I cut 5A), and Dylan (5A). As said by Icut from 5A, she is proud to be part of the cast since she feels like she successfully played and expressed her character. Besides, she also feels happy because it's a new experience for her. Dylan (5B) says that performing in this Symphony of Souls is a great experience since he can make his parents proud. Adelle' s mind reading car Rykenzie's Technology Innovation about Animal Communicator Device that can transmit people's languages, so that animals and humans have a better way to communicate with each other. This is how we express ourselves!

P Y P I N A C T I O N CLASS AT A GLANCE 13 The closing academic year of 2022-2023 with Summer Beach Holiday performance. June is always a special moment for the students when they finally successfully end this academic year. Certainly, there are always impressions, meaningful learning journeys, lots of self-reflection, and personal life growth experiences that they got from their classmates and teachers within a year. One of the grade 5 students feels that this year is enjoyable for her since she is fortunate to have friendly and helpful friends; the teachers are also kind, helpful, and playful. This year eases her so much in terms of academics that she can easily gain new knowledge and learning experiences because of her lovely friends and teachers. Zia from 5B enjoys the moments of having fun in Grade 5. He feels like the lesson is just much easier to understand, too. Celio from 5B says that in grade 5, he feels like he can manage his emotions better; he also enjoys playful time in grade 5. To close this wonderful learning journey in Grade 5, Grade 5, students are preparing a musical performance for this upcoming EYP (End of Year Performance). During these weeks, the students go through some activities to prepare for this performance. The students need to choose their gripping interest, whether they want to be the character in the role-playing or to be the dancer. Then, the students cast the main characters because this performance needed only nine main characters to act out in this role-playing. Hopefully, the performance shown by this Mid of June will bring togetherness and a favorable happy experience to close this academic year. (ABK) Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 Grade 5 "Hope the shoes mean something to you!" Some Grade 5 students collected the shoes to be donated to the less fortunate fellow students in Tanggedu, Mondu, and Sumba Timur as part of their empathy and caring towards them. Those students who live in remote areas wear sandals or even barefoot, walking from home to their school, passing through hills, fields, and pathways of kilometers just because they can not afford to buy the proper shoes for their school equipment. This fact that grade 5 never found themselves in their daily life hopefully brings understanding and empathy to share their preloved shoes in this donation event. The students write special and personalized letters for their shoe donation, as Ritchie (5C) writes: "Jangan lupa jaga spatula ya. Gunakan sepatunya dengan baik, ya. Selamat menggunakannya!” Hope these shoes mean something to you! A blast of the academic year ending

P Y P I N A C T I O N CLASS AT A GLANCE 14 It is almost the end of the academic year. We were busy with our UOI learning, Commencement preparation, and the End of Year Performance. We continued our inquiry, learning of theme 6, Where We Are in Place and Time, by having an excursion to ILY (I Love You) Cigombong. We got lots of insight that we can surely apply to our daily life. Here are some of our contemplation: We're getting busier than ever. We also did our end-of-year reflection to prepare ourselves for the next step in becoming grade 7 students. We wrote a letter to ourselves to embrace our memories and plan out strategies that were needed. The end of the road is getting closer. We believe that we are going to create the best moments to close our journey as Primary students. Wish us luck! (WA) Grade 6 It's Almost the End of Our Journey Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 "I will donate food to people and kidsin need." "I will help my grandpa grow lettuce and spinach using the hydroponic method." "I will use the information to fuel my energy of learning more about technology that aims to improve agricultural practices and use it to make hydroponics." "Don't waste food and instead keep it or use it for something else like feeding animals." "I will finish all my food and separate my food to give to someone else." "I can take enough food so I can finish it and not waste food to help overcome the food insecurity problem." "I want to grow my own kitchen spice/food (like garlic, onion, ginger) because it reduces air and water pollution as I did not use pesticides or other chemicals, and it is healthier." Another story, some of us also got busy with the school musical event, "A Symphony of Souls". We participated as a cast and were a part of the choir. It was fun and challenging at the same time for both the small role and the big role. After the musical came out, the Commencement, the EYP, and our small movement called "Old Shoes New Journey." An excursion to ILY Cigombong! Practice, practice, and practice for the Commencement

P Y P I N A C T I O N WE ARE IB LEARNERS! 15 The students learn to be an inquirer as they explore ones and tens using the blocks. They ask questions aIn this theme, grade 1 students show a learner profile, the risk taker and reflective. They learned to be a risk taker when they had a choral reading performance. After the pandemic, it was their first time to perform on a big stage, with costumes and other properties. However, this did not discourage them to practice well and give their best effort to perform their stories. They were excited and nervous at the same time, but they managed to cope with their feelings to show their best in the choral reading performance, art and writing exhibitionnd they are guided to find the answers by themselves. Grade 1 Grade 2 Happy 28th Birthday Sekolah Bogor Raya! We are very proud to be a part of our big family Inquirer: We are posing our own questions and using real-life resources to investigate the world Grade 3 Act of Kindness : Showing empathy by being helpful and caring for others and showing kindness with our actions Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 A few days later, the students watched their performance videos. They learned to be reflective as they looked back on what they have done to see which areas they have been good at, and which areas that they need to improve. They were happy to see their performance, and they were able to make any plan on how to improve themselves Communicating and respecting the ideas and being open-minded make teamwork really work and everyone achieves more

S E C O N D A R Y S C H O O L N E W S On sunny Sunday, the 7th of May, a total of 10 students from junior high school and senior high school volunteered to participate in the Student Council Social Service Department’s event. For the past few months, the social service department have constructed a plan to raise funds for purchasing educational materials for Cisarua Refugee Learning Center. 18 Earlier this academic year, representatives of Cisarua Refugee Learning Center visited Sekolah Bogor Raya to enlighten the community about their experiences. Since then, Sekolah Bogor Raya has maintained a close relationship with Cisarua Refugee Learning Center. We as students get to immerse ourselves in nature, observing the green sceneries and rushing stream as we pass by. Though at first, during the trek we were put in a buddy system, where a student paired up with a student from CRLC. Eventually, everyone mingled with one another. We had the opportunity to personally bond and create a meaningful relationship during the visit to CRLC, and we also went trekking. This definitely brought out the value of friendship in all of us, and we shared a memory together and talked about both of our personal interests. After trekking, we had lunch together and enjoyed leisure time. To wrap it up, the student council’s representative handed the educational materials to Cisarua Refugee Learning Center, this included; printer, paper, and books. S E C O N D A R Y S C H O O L N E W S The day we were waiting for came. In April 2023, we went to Satuan Pelayanan Griya Ramah Anak, Cibalagung, Bogor. Besides raising money by selling food, our program donates the groceries to the orphanage in Ramadan month. Our club, in collaboration with the student council, also opened donations from the parents through some packages we provided. From this open donation, we successfully collected around 20 million rupiah. Then, we combined the money we got from the parents, our selling, and from the student council, and used it to buy groceries like multiple boxes of rice, cooking oil, flour, milk, biscuits, and other groceries in order for the orphans to live a better life as they deserve and to have enough food to celebrate the Eid. ... In an effort to work towards our goal, we started our project by selling onigiri, baked bread, and Swedish meatballs in our 1st semester. Then, in our 2nd semester we also sold some food like baked bread and Korean corndog. The money raised will then be used to purchase groceries which will be donated to the orphanages at the end of academic term. 19 Although a short visit, smiling faces shining in the room made the cut in time worth it. Members of A Bite for All and the student council were happy to help carry the groceries from the bus into the orphanage, speeding the process followed by speeches from Pak Novi as teacher of Sekolah Bogor Raya and the orphanage’s coordinator. Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 In the end, we were so thankful to parents, teachers, students, and all the people who had helped this program run well so we could donate the groceries to the orphanage. After visiting the orphanage, we rode home humbled after realizing how privileged we are to have the ability to help others, and seeing them happily smiling. (Fathimah H Bajened) (RB)

Opening up great opportunities for each subject to collaborate and go directly to the field by conducting field trips to various places. One of the subjects that made the visit, was the Indonesian Language. Grade 7 was introduced to various types of letters and how to send them, until the mailing process was carried out. Here, students wrote a personal letter and sent the letter to their respective homes. Using stamps depicting class photos, students were very enthusiastic when writing personal letters to parents. Here, students learned about the long process of sending a letter. In addition to the writing experience and getting information on the process of sending letters, Grade 7 students were also invited to tour the post office, the post office on Jl. Ir. H. Juanda. Learn From Collaborating A visit to the post office and the Bogor city regional library, were two of the places visited by Bogor Raya School students in Grade 7 for their field trips. With the learning outcomes of recognizing letters and literacy culture, students were expected to be able to know the process of writing letters, the process of sending letters, and literacy culture. Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 1. Learning from the Post Office The older the better" is a term we should give to the post office. Why not? The post office has been established in Indonesia, especially the city of Bogor, from before Indonesia's independence until now. It is not wrong that the 7th Grade students of Sekolah Bogor Raya chose the post office as a place to visit for knowledge, especially letters. 2. Visit to Bogor City Regional Library From the post office, students were invited to the Bogor city regional library. There they had an amazing experience. With modern and up-to-date library facilities, Grade 7 students were given the opportunity to go to the auditorium and watch 2 interesting videos that were able to inspire children's hearts, namely the importance of culture and literacy. Grade 7 students were given the opportunity to tour the Bogor city regional library building from the first floor to the rooftop. There, they also had the opportunity to go to various rooms that spoilt the eyes with book collections. From the two visits that have been made, it is hoped that students will be able to collaborate, listen and respect each other, as well as foster and become role models of self-developing learning communities. S E C O N D A R Y S C H O O L N E W S 21 THINGS WE DO IN WWF-SBR The WWF (World Wildlife Fund) Club is a studentled club that aims to foster the impact humans have on marine life, as the theme of this period (2022-2023). Eight members meet regularly to discuss the idea of spreading awareness of marine life such as marine pollution and overfishing. Marine life are the plants, animals, and other organisms that live in the saltwater of seas or oceans, or the brackish water of coastal estuaries. Marine life is crucial for us because it provides climate regulation, food, jobs, livelihoods and economic progress. Thus, we must work together to protect and save the ocean for the future survival on this planet. Furthermore, overfishing is the act of catching too many fish at a greater rate than the species can replenish its population. The objective of this club is to have more activities in the form of joint discussions bringing ideas to disseminate this information in the form of posters through Instagram social media: wwfsbr, and also participating in the SBR-Walk Event. Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 Healthy & Re-fresh with WWF at SBR Walk The SBR Walk was held on Saturday, May 13th, 2023, at Sekolah Bogor Raya, and was attended by more than 700 participants and more than thirty tenants who offered various types of products or services. The WWF Club participated in enlivening the event by preparing a booth with drinks and frozen fruit to refresh the thirst of SBR-Walk participants. The proceeds will be donated to marine life sustainability through the WWF's official account. (NR) WWF-SBR Period 2022 - 2023

S E C O N D A R Y S C H O O L N E W S 24 Introducing culture through Indonesian B lesson Culture can be defined as all the ways of life including the arts, beliefs, and institutions of a population that are passed down from generation to generation. Culture has been referred to as "the way of life for an entire society." As such, culture includes codes of conduct, dress, language, religion, rituals, art, norms of behavior, such as law and morality, and belief systems. Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 In line with the vision of Sekolah Bogor Raya, which states fostering the next generation of culturally aware, lifelong learners, to be compassionate, knowledgeable, and global thinkers. Based on this, Grade 11 students of Sekolah Bogor Raya conducted travel activities to obtain and explore the culture that exists in Indonesia, especially Sundanese culture. The expected learning outcomes were that students were able to explore how our individual identities are shaped by diversity, and the culture in which we grew up, and discussed identities shaped by their own beliefs, as well as explored the uniqueness and authenticity of a subculture. One of the attractions visited, was Kampoeng Wisata Cinangneng. There, various activities were followed by Grade 11 students, including: 1.Playing Angklung In this activity, students were taught to play the angklung musical instrument. The children were guided by one of the tour guides to play angklung with national songs and Sundanese songs (Rayuan Pulau Kelapa and Tanah Sunda). They were also taught when and where to use local language, such as the words "teteh" and "mamang". 2.Traditional Dance In this activity, students were taught to dance a traditional dance, namely jaipong dance. Sundanese dance that has dynamic, attractive, and sensual movements with a cheerful musical accompaniment, so that it can invite people to sway. This movement teaches us to be agile, assertive, smart, and careful in doing everything.

In addition, students were also taught the process of making puppets from playing gamelan, cassava leaves, making crafts in caping hats, planting rice, and bathing buffaloes in the river. The activity was very interesting and provided a lifelong lesson for the students. The Grade 11 students were excited and remembered the activities carried out. After doing this activity, students were asked to make a short vlog and write an article by telling the experience they had during the field trip. The hope is, that students have a strong provision in recognizing Indonesian culture, especially Sundanese. (NJI) Hybrid Solar Eclipse 20th April 2023 On 20th April 2023 from 9.30-11.30, the SBR Astronomy Club members had a chance to observe the partial solar eclipse at school using a telescope. Even though it was only partially visible—because the full eclipse only could be observed in East Indonesia, such as: Biak, Papua—still we had a great experience of seeing it personally and sharing it with others through live Instagram. The next hybrid solar eclipses will be in 2031, 2049, 2050, and 2067. Actually, there are two types of central solar eclipses, which is: total solar eclipse and annular solar eclipse. A total solar eclipse is when the Moon entirely blocks the Sun for a few minutes so that we can see the solar corona with our naked eyes. An annular solar eclipse is when the Moon is slightly too far away from earth in its elliptical orbit, and so it means the Sun does not quite block all of the Moon. As a result, there is a ring around the Moon that can only be safely observed using solar eclipse safety glasses or a solar filter for the telescope. What happens during a hybrid solar eclipse is a bit of both. The curvature of the Earth means that the apparent size of the Moon changes slightly, depending on where you watch the eclipse from. If you are close to the sunrise point, then the Moon will appear slightly smaller in the sky compared to if you watch the eclipse from the middle of the path, where you will be slightly closer to the Moon. It happens because the Earth is a sphere.

S E C O N D A R Y S C H O O L N E W S 26 Last year, an earthquake struck the Cianjur district in West Java Province, significantly impacting numerous students in the area. The long-term effects of earthquakes on student performance should not be underestimated, as rebuilding and restoring normalcy in school life becomes an uphill battle. After a traumatic event or natural disaster, children require extensive support to navigate the challenges they face. Additionally, participating in these activities allows students to find solace, regain a sense of normalcy, and rebuild their confidence. These activities provide a safe space for students to express their emotions, bond with their peers, and engage in creative outlets that promote healing and resilience. Through playing games and creating art together, students gradually recover from the trauma of the earthquake and develop a positive outlook for the future. The event organized by the students of Sekolah Bogor Raya serves as a beacon of hope and solidarity, demonstrating the strength that arises from collective action in the face of adversity. MYCAS Psychosocial: Creating Positive Impact Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 To address the emotional and psychological needs of students, it is crucial to implement comprehensive programs and interventions within schools. Recognizing the significance of such psychosocial programs, the students of Sekolah Bogor Raya, in collaboration with Perkumpulan Sekolah SPK Indonesia, have taken the initiative to support these efforts. On Friday, June 2nd 2023, Sekolah Bogor Raya students visited SMP N 3 Cugenang and organized an event where they could play games and engage in simple art activities together. This activity plays a crucial role in facilitating the healing process and creating a supportive and compassionate community that stands strong in the face of adversity. The games foster collaboration between students with bamboo balls, magic pens, and simple art flannels. The students' involvement in these activities, aligned with the MYCAS program, not only contributes to the well-being of the affected individuals, but also fosters empathy and resilience among the students themselves. By actively participating in organizing and implementing these initiatives, students develop a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by others and cultivate a sense of compassion and solidarity. Engaging in such meaningful activities also provides an opportunity for students to enhance their own resilience and interpersonal skills. During the event, the students also distribute donations, including bags, learning materials, and snacks, to provide practical support to the affected individuals. These essential items help those facing immediate challenges in the aftermath of the earthquake. The students of Sekolah Bogor Raya demonstrate their commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need through the distribution of donations. This further reinforces the spirit of generosity and community support that underpins the event, creating a positive impact that extends beyond the activities themselves.

As the IBDP programme at SBR matures, it is easy to see the impact that it is having on the quality and depth of work being done by our DP students. One way to see this is through the work the students produce as part of their Theory of Knowledge course. To end this academic year, and their two year DP journey, the grade 12 students hosted a Theory of Knowledge conference. The theme of the conference this year was “Think harder, TOK louder” and they definitely lived up to it. The day’s activities sparked off with a keynote address by Dr. Aditya Pratap Deo who is a historian, author and professor at the prestigious St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. Prof. Deo’s talk was centered on the importance of understanding power dynamics and the conception of time while studying History. After the opening ceremony, the students of the May 2023 cohort led workshops on diverse topics such as ethical decision making, artificial intelligence, artistic expression, etc., which brought TOK to life and helped the grade 11 and grade 10 students to engage well with TOK concepts. Not to be outdone, the grade 11 students had their own way of displaying their knowledge and understanding. The May 2024 batch conducted a TOK exhibition as part of their Internal Assessment in the subject. The students chose three objects each for their exhibition and attempted to answer deep knowledge questions through these objects. They displayed an impressive depth of insight in this and it was gratifying to see the visiting parents, students and teachers engage in lively discussions with the presenters. The students’ enthusiasm, knowledge and insight give me confidence in saying that they have imbibed the lessons of their TOK course well and will continue to go from strength to strength as the programme progresses. Valentine said “Although the graduation ended with running mascara over the girls’ faces and tears on the boys’ tuxedos, our High School Graduation was impeccable, and it sure will be a beautiful story to tell our kids someday.” Jordi’s 12B Mom, Mrs Andalusia, also had the opportunity to deliver her speech, as a parent representative who looked very grateful and proud that her child could learn at SBR. Another moment that will not be forgotten also came from Michael Suteja, who deserves the title of valedictorian because of his success in achieving the highest score in this year's class. Hopefully, this graduation moment will be a turning point to start a new journey for them and what they aspire to achieve. Senior High School Graduation: Cherish The Journey Back at this year's SBR graduation event, the activity was quite lively, which was attended by Danasha foundation stakeholders, Mrs. Regina Hartati, Mrs. Fransiska as Academic Director, Mrs. Arning R. Wulandari, Head of the Senior High School Sekolah Bogor Raya, teachers and management, and both parents of students. In the event, there were also exciting things where the graduation participants sang songs for their fathers and mothers and sang the quite familiar song "Ingatlah Hari Ini", which was enough to bring tears to your eyes.

S E C O N D A R Y S C H O O L N E W S 35 Vol.9 / MAY-JUNE 2023 Let the symphony touch your souls! To commemorate Sekolah Bogor Raya’s remarkable 28th anniversary, a celebration was orchestrated through the annual musical production titled "A Symphony of Souls." From the moment the curtains rose on the 19th and 20th of May 2023, the show captivated the audience's imagination and whisked them away on an extraordinary voyage of music and emotions. Rehearsals and practices ensued weekly; these pivotal moments allowed our cast to develop their characters, breathing life into them through their portrayals. We shooted promotional materials along the production process; came up with mesmerizing behind-the-scenes clips, insightful interviews, and posters; each medium played its part in building anticipation and capturing the essence of "A Symphony of Souls." The pinnacle of preparation was arranged over two consecutive days—May 16th and 17th. With unwavering determination, the cast's performances significantly improved, while the crew's timing did not fail to make a seamless transition. Despite encountering challenges along the way, the production team demonstrated resilience and trust in one another, making it possible to overcome the obstacles. A Symphony of Souls Reflecting upon the vast amount of time invested in creating this captivating event, we were happy with how things turned out. The realization that a labor spanning eight months could culminate in a mere two days left everyone involved with an overwhelming sense of surrealism. The auditioning process started in early September, and after undergoing lots of considerations, the final piece was developed into what we witnessed on the 19th and 20th of May. Fueled by the casts’ unwavering commitment to give it their all, they delved into the depths of their respective roles, immersing themselves in the essence of their characters. In the presence of distinguished guests such as; Bapak Bima Arya, the esteemed mayor of Bogor, Bapak Ervin Yulianto, the Head of Bidang Ekonomi Kreatif; and Bapak Iwan Hernawan, the Head of Bidang Pemasaran Kepariwisataan; as well as Ibu Regina Hartati, the esteemed chairwoman of Yayasan Danasha, accompanied by the members of the Yayasan Danasha. The event wasalso embraced by the spirit of compassion and inclusivity, extending heartfelt gratitude to Panti Asuhan Bhakti Kasih Abba attendees and Cisarua Refugee Learning Centre, whose presence added an invaluable unity to the proceedings. As the final curtain opened, a sigh of bittersweet satisfaction echoed through the air, along with the thunderous applause reverberating through the Douglas Stoltz Auditorium. Lastly, we would like to thank the audience for supporting this event! We hope to see you in next year’s musical production. That will be all for Sekolah Bogor Raya’s 7th Annual Musical Production, A Symphony of Souls, where music touches lives! (SJ)
