From SBR's Curriculum Development and Operations Director
Mr Benedict Rinne
Dear Students, Staff, and Families,
What an amazing month of progress we have had! We have finally been able to reopen our main lobby in
building 1 after months of renovations. We are excited for how bright and welcoming this new space is,
and hope that you feel just as energized in the morning as we do arriving on campus in the morning.
We are also continuing to upgrade our facilities throughout the school, in line with our commitment to
providing the best possible learning experience for our students with updated learning environments. More
and more of our classrooms in Primary are being converted with upgraded digital displays that not only
enhance the learning through additional integration of technology, but also make learning more visible
through these larger and brighter displays.
In PGK we are looking forward to the upgrades to the playground area to include new equipment, and
rubberized flooring to improve the safety of the play area for our students.
And we are also coming close to the opening of our new Reflection Room which has been under
construction for the better part of the last semester. This new space will be available for all students,
teachers and staff to be able to take some time out of their busy days to sit, relax, meditate or pray. We
are excited to be able to provide these types of spaces to support the emotional, mental, physical, and
spiritual wellbeing of our community.
On the curriculum side, we have just finished our IB PYP evaluation. This evaluation of how the school
delivers the IB curriculum occurs every 5 years, and the planning for this evaluation visit has been going
on for about 2 years. These evaluations are important as they help us to take a critical look at multiple
areas of the school for areas of improvement. While the implementation and delivery of the curriculum is a
main focus of this evaluation, other areas such as leadership and governance, finance, and facilities were
also scrutinized. We appreciate the feedback that we received from the parents as we prepared for this
evaluation! We look forward to getting the full report back from the IB team in the next few weeks so that
we can work on making adjustments and improvements based on their final recommendations, as well as
the areas that we identified as growth opportunities during our preparations for this evaluation.
One of the more exciting events that we were able to share this month was our Batur Megamel Gamelan
performance. Part of our Vision and Mission is a focus on ensuring that we are providing more programs
for our students, staff and community to participate in that promote local culture. This performance allows
us all to look at how we develop an awareness and appreciation of that culture through traditional music.
We were able to showcase not only the talents of our own students and staff, but we were also able to
host players from Nizamia Andalusia school in Jakarta, as well as a group of Gamelan enthusiasts from the
Japanese Embassy! We are incredibly grateful to be able to provide the venue for such an amazing
display of talent. This is just the first step as we look forward to expanding our gamelan program to include
more of our community, stay tuned for more news on this soon!
On behalf of the school, I would like to also say thank you to our Parent Support Group. This newly formed
group has been instrumental in getting additional support for a wide range of activities around the school
from Zumba and Bento classes, to assisting in our community service and disaster relief efforts, and their
tremendous support of our teachers and staff during Teacher's Day. I am truly grateful to have such an
amazing group of parents working together with the school to provide such a positive and collaborative
partnership.
As always, thank you once again for helping us all learn and grow as a community!

K1-PREP
K1 K1 students are now almost at the end of term 2. Under the transdisciplinary theme
“Nursery Rhymes” with the central idea: Exploring creativity through nursery rhymes, we
learned the characters of the “Incy Wincy Spider”, “Humpty Dumpty”, “Baa, Baa, Black
Sheep”, “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”, and “Twinkle-Twinkle Little Star.” One of the
activities that they had in the class was pasting shapes on an egg template. They
recognized the egg as the Humpty Dumpty character. The shapes were formed with
different papers. There were origami papers, corrugated paper and foam paper. Before
they pasted them, they were able to touch and feel the texture of each paper. This activity
stimulated their imagination in relation to the story of Humpty Dumpty.
Imagination is essential to help children learn many critical lifelong skills. By having a
practice deliberately using the imagination, they enhance their creative abilities. They
pretended to paste the shapes as the bandage for Humpty Dumpty because he fell down
from the wall. Reign, one of K1 Students, pasted the shapes on the egg template by
himself. He touched and felt the shapes before he spread glue. He showed good fine motor
skills in pasting the shapes as he could spread the glue on the shapes and paste them on
the egg independently. Another K1 student, Sarah, also did the same thing. She could
spread the glue on the shapes and paste them on the egg template independently. She
chose each shape by touching and feeling the texture. Then, she pasted it on using glue.
Excursion to Our Friends' Houses
Another activity was having an excursion to friends’ houses. They had an experience visiting their friends’ house
and listening to some stories related to nursery rhymes. They also learnt about how to share the toys, be in
different situations and tidy up the things in their friends’ house. By having these activities, they learn to share,
make and keep friends, play cooperatively and take turns. They also learnt to negotiate and cope with
disappointment. They had some fun activities such as coloring activities using crayons, playing with toys, and
eating food together at their friends’ house. They were so excited to have this fun experience.

K2
During this 2nd Theme “How We Express Ourselves”, K2 students are
restarting swimming lessons. Most of K2’s students really enjoy the
swimming activity. Razata looked very happy and Miko was excited
while swimming. Swimming can help the student to develop their gross
motor skills. The students should move their legs, body and hands to be
able to float in water. Swimming activities can also help the student to
reach heights according to their age.
At the end of November, and at the beginning of December, K2 students will
get stimulation on their social emotions by riding bicycles around the common
area and also riding Delman and the school bus around the Sekolah Bogor Raya
area. From these activities, we can find out how K2 students express themselves
when riding the bicycles, Delman and school bus. Ethan and Rayes favorite
occasion is to go on the school bus. In addition, students will also learn to
engage in joint activities, patiently waiting for their turn, cooperating and
understanding the feelings of others. Thus, students learn how to be responsible
for themselves and others as well as develop their prosocial behavior.
Keep it up students!
In this theme, K2 Students developed an understanding about feelings. The
students are creating a “My Feeling Journal” by themselves. They are pasting
the shapes and drawing emoticons for the cover. They also make the paper
collage using origami paper. They are creating happy, sad, calm, and angry faces
using the paper collage. They are so happy during the activity. They also match
the happy, sad, calm, and angry pictures with the paper collage. Paper collage is
a great way to develop a student's fine motor skills.
Through this activity, students are learning the skills such as gluing, sticking,
taping, stapling, cutting and tearing. During the activity, Hammad was able to
make the face from the paper collage independently. He showed his creativity
when he was doing the paper collage. Florina also showed good self
management skills during this activity as she completed the tasks
independently. We can’t wait to do other exciting activities next theme. Stay
safe and healthy, K2 Families!

K3
It has been a very interesting month as we continue the
learning of "How We Express Ourselves" by having fun
activities such as storytelling by NOIACREATIVE on
November, 28th 2022. The children showed their
enthusiasm by listening to the story about “Rusa dan
Kelomang" attentively and dancing together. By doing
this activity, K3 students also learned how to be
communicators as they express their ideas and
information by asking questions regarding the story.
In the next following event, K3 will have a Pinocchio
storytelling performance that will be held on 8th and
9th December. Students will learn how to be a risk taker
as they will appear as a cast or dancer based on their
choice.
Besides storytelling by NOIACREATIVE and Pinocchio
Story Telling performance, students’ learning has also
been an amazing learning experience to enhance their
knowledge.
In class activities, the students looked
enthusiastic about doing various activities .Emilie
creates the headband for the Pinocchio
storytelling performance by cutting the shiny
paper and pasting it on the headband. By doing
this activity students will enhance fine motor
skills.
Eleanor enhances her knowledge of numbers. In
this activity, she draws, colors, traces and writes
the numbers 1 - 10 independently. Reizo and
Mahira are showing their ability to sing the "Jack
and Jill" song with the movement independently.
It’s great to see students’ enthusiasm in involving
all learning activities in this theme.
Keep up the good spirit K3 students!

PREP Prep students are having many experiences in the theme "How We Express Ourselves”. They
experience many ways of expressing themselves through art. In this theme, Prep students
learn the painting art inspired by Affandi painting style as the popular artist from Indonesia.
They explore some painting techniques using their hands and some different materials to
develop student’s creativity. The students also share their visual expression by explaining the
story of their painting as a way to express themselves.
Aqsal, Richelle, Abidzar, Alethea and Haniyya from Prep show enthusiasm and
enjoyment having this painting activity. Aqsal said he is happy to paint about his
favorite character “Sonic” as hero. Richelle said she feels so excited to paint the
rain using fingers. Abidzar also said he is happy when painting his house with his
family. Alethea said she likes to paint, especially making a flower garden as her
favorite place. Haniyya said she is happy because she can paint a butterfly as her
favorite animal.
This painting activity is a way for students to do many important things to
convey ideas, express emotion, use their senses, explore color, explore process
and outcomes, and create aesthetically pleasing works and experiences. The
students also become more focused on creating representations and conveying
ideas, helping the students develop their hand-eye coordination and fine motor
skills.
To support the learning activity in the theme "How We Express Ourselves”, Prep students had a Religious
Celebration which integrated with the learner profile of being open minded and appreciating diversity. Prep
students were exposed to a variety of religious celebrations such as decorations, food, and costumes. All
students looked very excited wearing their own religious celebration attire and tasted kinds of food from all
religions. After the performance, Prep students had the opportunity to visit all religions booths to be respectful
to others religions. They delivered some questions to each religion teacher to have more knowledge and
information about other religious celebrations.
As a closing of the learning process in this theme, Prep students had “Cultural
and Art Exhibition” as the way to express students' feelings. The students
performed based on their interest and willingness to try new things to be a risk
taker. Prep students amazingly performed Rampak Kendang, Pencak Silat, Tari
Piring and Pantun. Then it was closed with a class performance by singing
Cingcangkeling in front of their parents. The students also proudly exhibited
their artwork to their parents and told the story behind the artwork.
These events aimed to build student’s confidence to share their feelings and
opinions about what they feel and want. Hopefully students have courage to
meet new challenges and be responsible for their choice. Well done Preps,
what a wonderful experience as the closing theme.

Happy National Teachers’ Day
Do you still remember your teachers when you
were in PGK, primary, or secondary? Do you even
remember what your teachers taught you? What
were the values they shared with you? What
motivation did they share with you? What
excitement did they spark in your life as a learner?
A teacher becomes one of the most influential
people in our lives. A teacher has the superpower
to help students to become the best version of
themselves. What a teacher does in everyday
teaching and learning will affect the students in
many ways.
National Teacher’s day is not just a day to celebrate
our profession as educators. Instead, this
celebration should become momentum for us,
teachers and communities, to reflect on our
superpowers and make sure that we use the
superpowers for the good of the children.
This year, all the members of the SBR community
were excited to celebrate. It was lovely to witness
the collaboration among parents and students in
preparing the surprises for their beloved teachers.
It would not happen without a sincere willingness
to spread happiness through cards, flowers, live
performances, food, drinks, and a photo booth that
were everywhere for the whole day. We are
thanking everyone that has made this event
memorable for us. Happy National Teachers’ Day,
everyone! (AW/WA)

KEMENKEU Mengajar
Kemenkeu Mengajar is part of an action initiated by the Ministry of
Finance or Kementerian Keuangan staff all around Indonesia. They
have been doing this teaching and learning activity for seven years
already. Each year, they do it to celebrate Hari Uang Nasional, or
National Money Day.
During their visit to Grade 6, Kemenkeu brings several missions,
such as delivering knowledge about the roles of the Ministry of
Finance in society, the structure of the organization, the importance
of having the state budget, and socializing the values and set of
attitudes that reflect the department.
In each class, Kemenkeu staff taught the students about the differentiation of needs and wants. They also
taught the students to manage their money wisely and avoid being impulsive in using their money. Kemenkeu
staff introduced the concepts of buying what you need, buying enough and not more than what you need, and
saving money for rainy days.
A day well spent with Kemenkeu!
Such an enlightening and rare moment that we had with
Kemenkeu. They have given us a new perspective and taught
us the real value of money. It was an ongoing discussion in a
simple way that has helped us to understand finance.
Kemenkeu has inspired us to think more about our future.
Through games and activities, we are able to become
financial decision makers and see the impact of our decisions.
Money matters. Hopefully, what Kemenkeu has given to us
can help to build a foundation for financial independence in
the future. Thank you, Kemenkeu! (AW/WA)

EXCUL EXHIBITION
All extracurricular activities in Sekolah Bogor Raya this academic year are
conducted offline. Various extracurricular activities are opened and offered
to the Primary students so they will have varied after-school activities to
develop their passion, interest, hobbies, etc. From those activities, we want
to see how the students can develop their skills related to the activities and
their social skills. This academic year, for the very first time, we held an
Internal Extracurricular Exhibition. The exhibition showcased students' skills
and projects developed during the session.
We have around 15 different internal extracurricular activities this year and
all of the members of the extracurriculars tried to share their best for the
exhibition. We tried to involve as many students as possible for this event.
For the MC, we gave a chance to the Public Speaking members to lead the
exhibition. From Science, we could see various experiments conducted live
in front of the visitors. We also watched the performances from choir and
gamelan as the opening. What a lovely performance they had!
This year's exhibition was only visited by students from Grade 1 up to Grade
6. Hopefully, in the next semester, we can invite more visitors including
parents to witness the learning journey of the students outside the daily
classroom routine. Really love to see how they grow and develop. Can’t wait
to see more surprises from the students in the next semester! (RNA)

EXCURSION TO RUMAH IBADAH
After 2 years of the pandemic, finally, grade 1 students had an excursion on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.
They were very excited as it was their first time going out of school to learn something new. Riding on the
school bus with friends and teachers brought joy and excitement to them. They went to five religious buildings
in Bogor. They were Pura Giri Kusuma, Masjid Raya Al Muttaqin, Vihara Dhanagun, St. Franciscus Church and
Gereja Kristus Bogor.

the religious buildings. Even though they were exposed to different religious buildings, they understood that
there were similar things among them; that those buildings are specially prepared and set for the people to pray,
and that they had to follow certain rules there. The students also learned and practiced respecting the different
religions through this excursion. (LP)

(BTS) - Part 2
Grade 2 BTS is back!!! The cozy bedrooms turned into a jungle. This time,
grade 2 students and teachers went to the jungle to hear a story being read. So much fun, so many stories!
Previously, we made our favorite animal pictures to create a crown craft.
Then, to make the session merrier, we came wearing green, yellow, and
brown t-shirts to represent the colors of the jungle. The students also
brought their cute animal dolls from home.
The storytellers this time are no less fantastic and enthusiastic than the
previous ones. Their preparation, presence, and heart to foster a love of
reading for the students is precious. This activity encourages the students to
become great communicators and inquirers. They listen attentively and
broaden their imaginations through their queries and wonders. Books can
be the plane, the train, and the road. They are the destination and the
journey. They are home for us as learners. "That’s the thing about books.
They let you travel without moving your feet." – Jhumpa Lahiri.
After having BTS twice, the students wrote a reflection and shared their
feedback. Everyone was very happy. Some came up with their ideas for the
next BTS theme, costume and readers. Therefore, we hope that parents will
also be involved in this meaningful and fun activity. Our collaboration will
continue to create the world's best readers and leaders. We really
appreciate it. Thank you so much and see you at the next BTS. (DU)

Greetings from the
SCIENCE FAIR Scientist!
Science fair is an opportunity for the students to do an
independent science project following the scientific method. In
this theme 3 under “How The World Works” the grade 3
students have a great opportunity to hold a science fair as the
final project. This year’s science fair theme is about how energy
is used to fulfill human needs. Students prepared for around 2
weeks for this event. Firstly, the students were divided into 4
groups based on their interest in the experiment. Then the
students started to follow the scientific method beginning from
the question, making hypotheses, preparing the tools and
materials, conducting the experiment step by step, recording
the result and lastly drawing the conclusion. They seemed so
excited every time they had the experiment. We can see those
sparkling eyes once they see the result, a very careful hand
before mixing the materials, and a very loud voice when they
know the experiment was successful.
More than that, students also think about the modification that
they can do to the experiment. Students came up with a very
creative idea; some of them were testing the effect of adding
the materials, changing the materials or even changing the
equipment used to the result. Next, they again made the
hypothesis and tested it by conducting the experiment.
When D day came, students were super duper excited to have
the science fair. They couldn’t wait for the visitors to come.
During the visit, students explained the scientific method, and
they even asked the visitors to try their experiment. Everybody
feels satisfied with the result. The grade 2 students feel happy
to see the experiment and our students also feel satisfied to
see the smiley face that the grade 2 students gave as feedback.

The giving and receiving of legacies can evoke, all at

hope, longing, a sense of failure, a sense of

Most of us will not be an Albert Einstein, with our name and accomplishments remembered forever in the

Grade 3 Memorable November
What a memorable November we have had this year. We celebrated Flag raising ceremony to commemorate National
two important events for our heroes which were National Heroes Heroes Day
Day on November 10 and another one was Teachers’ day on
November 25. Both events are aimed to raise awareness of the
importance of the role played by the heroes. From National Heroes
day, we learned how resilient, principled and courageous our
Indonesian Patriots are to defend our independence and to be free
from colonial rules.
To commemorate this day, we had a flag raising ceremony in the morning and continued to discuss the history
of national heroes day. We learned that through this battle, Indonesia had lost some people who sacrificed
their lives for the country. Now, it is our turn as a young generation to keep their legacy alive, which can be
started by being a better version of ourselves than yesterday.
“Happy Teachers’ Day!” was a very loud call that we heard in the morning from the students. On this day, we
could express our gratitude to our teachers and have fun together by joining the flashmob and taking pictures
in booths provided by the parents. Students might think that they always learn from the teachers, however,
the students are also the teachers, from whom we learn persistence, patience and pure heart.

Grade 4 A November to Remember
Celebrating Teachers’ Day Every year the month of November is always packed with many special
things, including this November in which we just celebrated Teachers’s
Day. It was such a memorable day for all of the Sekolah Bogor Raya
community: teachers, students, parents, and all the staff. The students
created cards for the teachers and the parents organized treats for the
teachers. We laughed, had a great time and shared memories on that
day.
One of the things that our students explored this November is conducting experiments related to plate tectonic
movements. The students did the experiments by using biscuits and chocolate paste, to investigate more about
convergence, divergence, and transform in the surface of the Earth.
November also marks almost the end of Theme 3: How The World Works. The students participated in lots of
hands-on activities such as conducting experiments, building 3D models of natural disasters, and of course
preparing ourselves for the big event, The Grade 4 Science Fair. The theme for our Science Fair is natural

Teachers: infectious energy, spirit and motivation
November is a special month for our students since it is a time to celebrate National Teacher’s day. Some
research shows that students who are inspired by their teachers tend to accomplish amazing things and that
motivation almost always stays with them. Inspiration can also take many forms, from helping a student through
the academic year and their short-term goals, to guiding them toward their future career. Furthermore, inspiring
teachers are teachers who help them grow, learn to think critically, and develop enduring bonds with them, even
after they've left school.
Here are some insights that Grade 5 students shared about their favorite and
inspiring teachers. Mayo said that his inspiring teacher is Pak Chandra. In his opinion,
Pak Chandra is such an energetic and fun teacher who inspires him to be more
motivated and spirited to accomplish all the school work. Pak Chandra is a model of
enthusiasm and boosted energy for Mayo.

CLASS AT A GLANCE
Grade 6 Thanking Our Sweet November!
Hello, Sweet November! It is a month of celebrating a moment to understand what it means to become a hero.
There are National Heroes Day and National Teachers’ Day. As usual, we commemorated National Heroes Day
by looking back on how the Indonesian heroes have fought for freedom in the past time. Celebrating its history is
about looking back and forward on what they have done for the country and what we can do next to continue
the spirit of loving our own country.
Sending our best smiles! Happy National Teachers’ Day!
What about the National Teachers’ Day? What is the significance and the importance of celebrating it? For us, it
is one occasion to celebrate the relationship between teachers and students. National Teachers’ Day is not only
for teachers who need to be acknowledged for the valuable contributions they have given to the students but
also for us to be thankful for having a second mother, father, or even family. We celebrated them with their
essence. Both National Heroes Day and National Teachers’ Day, it’s all about love and legacy. It is about being an
inspiration, giving the best contribution to transform the country and education for the better.
Thankfully, we got this one day to show our gratitude for our beloved teachers. It was a fun day where we took a
picture together, shared goodies and said, “Happy Teachers’ Day” for everyone at school. This year’s celebration
is even merrier because of the Parents Support Group's involvement. We are thanking the teachers, parents,
school staff and even ourselves as one big family.
Thank you, Ibu Rif’at! Team “Membaca Pantun” in action on PIS
Next, our class story! For the first time, some of us gave Learning together with KEMENKEU MENGAJAR
a little performance of “Berbagi Pantun” in front of our
parents during the PIS. No less exciting, we’re getting
closer to our PYP Exhibition. Such preparations have
been done every week along with accomplishing the

were also grateful for having Ibu Rif’at who came to

National Day Celebration:
Sumpah Pemuda and Pahlawan Day
Back to ninety four years ago, when many Indonesian youths from various parts
of Indonesia declared “Sumpah Pemuda” as their promise to unite as
Indonesians and use the Indonesian language as a union language. This
declaration was the starting point for how the Indonesian youth struggled to
fight the colonization era. Then, seventeen years later, in August 1945, our
Indonesian heroes could finally declare independence day. But, since October-
November 1945, our heroes still fought to maintain the independence from
Dutch and Great Britain.
On commemorating national day of Sumpah Pemuda and Heroes’ Day, Sekolah
Bogor Raya had some events to commemorate this national day, such as declaring
Sumpah Pemuda together on October 28th, 2022; National Seminar with Colonel
Alkaf W Pramono, SE, MM from Indonesian air force on November 4th, 2022; Flag
Ceremony on November 10th, 2022; and National Day competition & performance
on November 9th-10th, 2022. In this competition and performance, we had
Heroes' Cosplay, Kuis Cerdas Cermat about Sumpah Pemuda & National Heroes,
and we had so many student performances from Grades 7 until 12.
They showed us their creativity like singing national or traditional songs, doing skits
about some historical moment in our country, dancing a traditional dance, etc. For
your information, November 10th was designated as Hero's Day in 1959 by the
first president of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno. The date is a form of respect for the
historic event to defend Indonesia's independence, the Battle of Surabaya on
November 10th, 1945 and also to commemorate the services of the heroes.
In this commemoration, we can make the students realize
what the heroes have done and can inspire and motivate all
of us to continue their struggle. If in the past we fought by
taking up arms, now we are fighting against various problems
of the nation, such as social economics, country
developments, natural disasters, health, radical ideologies,
etc. The Hero's Day should also be to instill heroic values
into the young generation to fill independence. With this
heroic spirit, it is hoped that they will participate in
developing Indonesia, according to their respective
potentials and professions. This is in accordance with the
theme of Sumpah Pemuda day 2022 “Bersatu Bangun
Bangsa” and Heroes' Day 2022 "Pahlawanku Teladanku”. 9B)

MATH COMPETITIONS:
THINGS WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH THIS SEMESTER
Mathematics is the foundation of the field of science and technology, which is undergoing rapid
development. As a field of study, mathematics is driven to improve one’s ability to think critically, logically,
and systematically.
This semester we joined four mathematics competitions, which were Southeast Asian Mathematical
Olympiad (SEAMO) 2022, American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) 2022, Actuarial Science Day 2022, and
Infinitics Math Modelling Competition.
Southeast Asian Mathematical Olympiad (SEAMO) 2022
SEAMO is a math competition for Grades 1-12. This competition consists of several papers from A to F. The
math olympiad has been done in many countries, such as Indonesia, India, and Singapore. The difficulty of
this iconic contest is remarkably high because to solve the problems, it requires a high level of ingenuity,
creativity, and mathematical prowess. Moreover, this contest was created and designed by Mr. Terry Chew, a
famous math olympiad coach. He created the competition to stretch the minds of even the brightest math
students, and for children who like math to meet others like them.
On October 1st 2022, some students from secondary level
joined this competition online. The result was announced on
6th November and congratulations to some students who got
the medal
1.Eliora - Gold medal (Grade 8 Category)
2.Rachelle - Bronze Medal (Grade 8 Category)
3.Matthew Surya - Bronze Medal (Grade 7 Category)
American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) 2022
American Math Olympiad (AMO) is an international math
competition for elementary, middle and high school
students jointly organized by SIMCC and Southern Illinois
University (SIU). It promotes the importance and a deeper
understanding of math. AMO is open to all Grade 2 to 12
students and its framework is based on The US Common
Core Standards.
A group of the best educators from Southern Illinois University with comprehensive knowledge and
experience in the Common Core Math curriculum design unique papers to challenge the student and at the
same time promote their interest in math. Some of the distinguished benefits (or The key benefits) of AMO
are university scholarships, Global Scholars Program, International Junior Honor Society (IJHS) membership,
tuition grants and internships.
The competition was conducted online at our school on 28th October 2022 . Some students from secondary
level joined this competition. The result will be announced in December. Wish them good luck !!

MATH COMPETITIONS:
THINGS WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH THIS SEMESTER
Actuarial Science Day 2022
Actuarial Science Day is an annual event held by Universitas Prasetiya Mulya, for high school students around
Indonesia. Unlike other math competitions, this competition was done in groups of three, and each group
needed to solve math problems given by the committee. This year's Actuarial Science Day was held offline by
Universitas Prasetiya Mulya's Business Mathematics students on 11th-12th November 2022.
The team showed good team work and perseverance in this competition. Overall, the competition was
memorable as it was a unique one and it was an opportunity not everyone could experience. With the skills
and knowledge they have acquired, I believe that students of Sekolah Bogor Raya would be able to get an
achievement in this competition next year.
Infinitics Math Modelling Competition
INFINITICS, Interminably Finding True Knowledge in Mathematics, is an annual mathematics competition
conducted by Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) for senior high school students. There are several branches of
the competition: mathematics intelligence race, mathematics olympiad, as well as mathematical modeling.
Mathematical modeling is a process that emphasizes the application of mathematics in solving real-life
problems. This year’s challenge was to predict whether a person has diabetes with a given set of data.
Our students have put their best efforts into it by doing a lot of research and brainstorming mathematically to
tackle the challenge. On the day of the competition, as a result , one of the team got an honorable mention.
We were very grateful for this recognition. (KB)

FORUM OSIS SMP 2022: BUILD A COLLABORATIVE ORGANIZATION
Written by: Kiara Kumala & Aqila I Sawitri
The first few months of the academic year signaled new events and activities held by the school’s Student
Council. As an annual event, the Junior High School Student Council hosted the 2nd SMP Forum OSIS event
on the 18th of October 2022. Forum OSIS is an event where multiple Student Councils meet together to
discuss Student Council related topics. In this event, we aim to acquire skills, such as communication and
teamwork, and also to create a relationship between Student Councils.
The Student Council has finally had the chance to hold Forum OSIS offline this year. In this opportunity,
schools from not only Bogor, but as far as Jakarta, attended this event. Student Council delegates from
Nizamia Andalusia, SMPN 3 Bogor, SMPN 10 Bogor, BPK Penabur Sentul, SMP Pangerasan, Madania, Al-
Izhar Pondok Labu, Sekolah Pesat, SMP Al-Mustarih as well as Taruna Bangsa, came and participated in this
event.
Each Student Council came prepared with a presentation. From this sharing session, we learned the
organizational structure of each Student Council as well as their past and current events, the responsibilities
of each department, and their vision and mission.
In relevance to our theme regarding building a collaborative organization, we invited Kak Fasya Fahlefi as a
guest speaker. Kak Fasya Fahlefi is the CEO of Data Dua Delapan, an organization that intends to innovate
technology in the medical field, and he was also the valedictorian of the class of 2014 from SBR. He was
invited to this event in hopes to enlighten us regarding effective teamwork in an organization.
Last but not least, the most memorable
part of the day was the performance
session. Each school showcased a
performance ranging from singing,
storytelling, and poem recitation. It was
such a thrill to witness such fascinating
and wholesome displays of talent! In this
session, it was clear that the “ice was
broken” among delegates.
Forum OSIS SMP 2022 has been a great and knowledgeable event for us all. This event couldn’t have been
executed without the help of all the committee members who have worked tirelessly in preparation for this
event. We also couldn’t have been successful without the help from our sponsors: Ayam Geprek Istimewa,
AJS Bakery, Kommpi Tugoh, and Hutan Hujan.

Running Club: More Than Just Running!
Radya E Sampurno, SBR Running Club President
The SBR Running Club is an SLC (Student Leadership Club) that is led by
students. In this club, we mainly focus on running activities that are good
for our health and most importantly, fun! This club was established by
former SBR students that have now graduated, but it’s still going on until
now. In the running club, we run together and we measure our distance,
speed, and time. By joining, members can increase their physical activity and
fitness, which is very important, especially for students that might lack
physical activities because of their study priorities.
During Semester 1 of this academic year, the club faced a huge challenge:
weather. Bogor is known as the “city of rain”. Every afternoon, it was always
raining and this prevented us from running. This made us lack running
activities, and we had a hard time figuring out how we could solve the
problem. After a long discussion, we finally decided that we will move the
schedule from the afternoon to the morning. We decided this based on the
trends, which shows that Bogor doesn’t usually rain in the morning, but
rather in the afternoons.
The SBR Running Club will hold an event on 10th of December. The SBR
Fun Run. The goal of this event is to have tons of fun and to refresh your
mind after exams. The SBR Running Club is really optimistic about its future,
because of a high demand for physical activity in SBR. We will be opening a
re-registration in semester 2, join us! For further info, check out our booth
later during the SLC exhibition.
Business Plan Competition: SBR Team Secured Second Place
On Saturday, October 29th. Shane M Santoso, Mario N Chandra and Kayra
Z Alima from Grade 11, participated in the final business plan presentation
competition. They were selected into the top 6 from the previous screening
proposal business, which has more than 20 participants, on October 24th,
2022.
This competition is always held every year by SMAK 1 BPK Penabur Tanjung
Duren, West Jakarta. Many other competitions were also held on that day. With
the enthusiasm of the SBR students whose names have been mentioned earlier,
they managed to win the runner up position after their presentation in front of the
jury directly. Many questions were asked by the jury, which are included in the
assessment. But there was also praise from the jury, because Shane, Nicho, and
Kayra managed to present their products and business plans well. (JD)

FORUM OSIS SMA 2022: Represent Students’ Voices
-Auriel Aletha and Maikaghia Torino-
The Student Council plays a prominent role in
representing a school’s student body. It is responsible for
representing students’ voices as well as a linking medium
between students and the school as a whole. Hence,
Sekolah Bogor Raya’s Student Council hosts an annual
Forum OSIS event, which tethers Student Council
members from various schools to gather and exchange
ideas and thoughts about the Student Council.
With the pandemic slowly making its transition towards an endemic state, the SBR Student Council has finally
been granted the opportunity to host Forum OSIS 2022 in person at SBR after a two-year-long wait of having
it online! Our theme, “Building a Dynamic Collaboration in Organizational Culture”, is birthed from our
realization of how effective communication and collaboration between members serve as a salient backbone
for organizations like the Student Council to function. The event commenced on 29th October 2022, joined
by Student Council members from SMAN 1 Bogor, SMAN 5 Bogor, SMA Madania, SDH Bogor, and SMA
Kosgoro Bogor, accompanied by our F&B sponsors, Nutriboost and Ayam Goreng Berkat.
Every school came prepared with an introductory presentation about their Student Councils, an event
proposal presentation, and a special closing performance. One of the most notable activities was the event
proposal presentation, where each Student Council presented their signature event. In this activity, we
learned how each school constructs, prepares and conducts an event. This allows them to identify the
strengths and weaknesses of each event, and the weaknesses can be evaluated so the next iteration of the
event can run smoother than the former.
The event was also highlighted through the presence of our guest speaker, Agnes Felicia, who was once the
head of Bye-Bye Plastic Bags Bogor! She gave an enlightening talk about the basic culture of being in an
organization. She explained the pros and cons of working collaboratively, and gave solutions to overcome
challenges that may occur in organizations. She also explained all of the skills that are needed for people to
collaborate together in an organization.
In conclusion, she advised us all the basic rules of being in an organization. To use these rules, we gave some
case studies of problems in an organization and asked different groups how they would resolve them. So,
thank you so much to Agnes Felicia for taking the time to advise us on how to be a good member in an
organization.
The participants, all in all, were able to form an amiable bond between themselves through following each
others’ socials and the enjoyable ice-breaking games, as well as learning new skills and values that can be
implemented in their work ethic for the Student Council!
To wrap up the event, every school prepared a special performance that included dancing, singing, and even a
unique science experiment. These performances created a special bond between all participants. Everyone
showed a bunch of enthusiasm, support, and love toward each other’s performances.

SBR Dance Crew Secured First Place in START-X
Modern Dance Competition
(Sentul, 05/11/2022) Great news keeps coming for secondary
students' achievements this month. This time, SBR students have won
first place in START- X (Saturday Art and Tournament) - Modern
Dance Competition, SMP Category at Sekolah Taruna Bangsa, Sentul.
The students grouped themselves as SBR Dance Crew with members :
Amira (Grade 7), Dhita (Grade 7), Excella (Grade 7), Aziza (Grade 7),
Nirwa (Grade 9), and Edelline (Grade 9).
The SBR Dance Crew gained the highest points from the other six
teams after performing their dance in front of the judges. The SBR
Dance Crew gained attention successfully not only from the judges, but
also from the audience, they mashed up some popular songs, such as
BTS-Dynamite, NCT Dream - Hello Future, and ended with bubbly
closure with Weekly- After School. The SBR Dance Crew for sure,
worked very hard with their own effort and it paid off remarkably.
The SBR Dance Crew preparation was not an easy SLC Dance Club
task to begin. They needed to create their own (from left) : Nikita,
choreography and perform as a team. Considering a Edelline, Nirwa,
short amount of practice time from the SLC Dance Excella, Ibu Dwi,
Club, this achievement means a lot. Thankfully, the Dhita, Aziza, Amira.
SLC Dance Club has talented members like Nirwa
(Grade 9) and Nikita (Grade 11) who have more
experience in dancing. They led the SBR Dance
Crew and made this achievement memorable.
“To be honest, I am still very shocked” - Aziza (member of SBR Dance Crew and SLC - Dance Club) said on
November 5, 2022.
“The result is unexpected,” Edelline (member of SBR Dance Crew and SLC - Dance Club) said on the same
day.
They were focusing on how they could perform with good coordination and synchronization as a group. They
were nervous as well at D-Day since two of their members needed to perform the traditional dance in “Batur
Megamel” at school on the same day as the competition day. Luckily, the school, parents, and teachers
worked together to make this possible. After this tough challenge, the outcome turned out to be a great
result since the SBR Dance Crew secured first place. It’s just like the quotes says:
“Work hard and you will never ever regret that you chose not quit”
Whatever our target is, as long as we have the effort and put the hard work in. It will pay off. Keep
supporting and look forward to the SBR Dance Crew SBRians! (DFR)

Sanghadana Kathina: Buddhist Religion Celebration
Sekolah Bogor Raya celebrated Sanghadana Kathina for Buddhist students of Bogor Raya Junior and Senior
High School which was held on November 11th, 2022. This activity is a series of religious celebrations of all
religions in order to establish tolerance between the students in SBR.
Kathina Day is celebrated after the members of the Sangha have completed the Vassa Period, which is a time
for the Sanghas, especially from the Theravada tradition, to settle in a place where they cannot harm or/kill
any living beings during the rainy season. The rainy season period referred to is generally the rainy season in
India, which lasts for 3 months [June - October].
The Vassa period usually starts from the day after Asadha day for a duration of three months. During this
time, members of the Sangha, including Bhikkhu and Bhikkuni, are required to settle somewhere to cultivate
and train themselves. For Buddhists, it is a day to express gratitude to the Sangha after carrying out the
Vassa period of 3 months. The purpose of this event is so that students can practice directly as a sense of
devotion / support for the Sangha. Funds are not only in the form of money, but can also be in the form of
robes, medicine, food and others. They can also practice their Belief in the Triratna [Buddha, Dhamma, and
Sangha]. By funding, Buddhists can train themselves to engage and attach to an impermanent thing, namely
worldly things.

Sangha were invited to come to school. In this event, all students of the Bogor Raya School who are
Buddhists, can and are allowed to take part in this event. The event began with the welcoming of the Sangha
Members. Then followed by reading the Buddhist Paritta. After reciting the Buddhist Paritta, the disciples
meditated, which was led by members of the Sangha. After finishing doing meditation, members of the
Sangha gave lectures which are very useful for today's children. The topic of his talk was “grateful for what
we have”. When finished giving lectures, the students gave the funds they brought to the members of the
Sangha. There are many variations of the funds provided by Bogor Raya School students, some giving
Angpao filled with money, some giving robes, and many more. After the Sanghadana, the monks sprinkle holy

SECONDARY SCHOOL NEWS Vol.4 / NOV - DEC 2022
As we approach the end of term 2 of this academic year, it is time to reflect on what we have
achieved thus far, the challenges we have faced, and the course corrections we need to make in
the coming term.
The DP2 cohort gets ready to go into their final phases for IA feedback, internally assessed
component submissions, and extended essays. At the same time, students of the DP1 cohort take
their first tentative steps towards starting these journeys as they decide on their IA and EE topics.
The coming term will see them take on more tasks designed to build the required skills of critical
thinking and academic writing to be able to produce good quality academic work.
Grade 12 students have also started their first Mock assessment. The mocks are a good way for
students to become familiar with the expectations and rigor of the actual assessments. This also
gives them a chance to work on areas which need improvement so that they can approach their
final IB assessments with confidence. The TOK essay drafts are also being submitted for final
feedback from their teachers. Apart from this, most students have started with revision work in all
their classes and have begun practice work for the externally assessed components of their
courses.
The teachers have had a busy, but productive, month as well. All DP teachers took part in the IB
Dunia Teachers’ conference this year on the 12th of November. This year we had four of our
teachers as workshop leaders in the conference. Mr. Arip Pirmansyah, Mr. Afdal Bahri, Mr. Chris
England, and Mr. Aditya Rao led workshop sessions on various aspects of IB education. Their
sessions were well-received with lots of positive feedback from the session participants. As a
faculty we strive to continually innovate our teaching methods and it is gratifying to be able to
share our methods with the larger educator community of the nation.(AR)
In the IBDP:
Students choose courses from the following subject groups: studies in language and
literature; language acquisition; individuals and societies; sciences; mathematics; and the
arts.
Students may opt to study an additional sciences, individuals and societies, or languages
course, instead of a course in the arts.
Students will take some subjects at higher level (HL) and some at standard level (SL). HL
and SL courses differ in scope but are measured according to the same grade descriptors,
with students expected to demonstrate a greater body of knowledge, understanding and
skills at higher level.
Each student takes at least three (but not more than four) subjects at higher level, and the
remaining at standard level.
Standard level subjects take up 150 teaching hours. Higher level comprises 240 teaching
hours.

LEARNING TOGETHER WITH AN SBR ALUMNI
LESTER B. PEARSON SCHOLARSHIP - UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO
By: Chiesa Gospelli
What is the Lester B. Pearson Scholarship?
Lester B. Pearson is a full-ride merit-based scholarship that covers expenses throughout your full
years of study in any course of your choice at the University of Toronto. Its recipients exemplifies
what the UofT admissions team call as “qualities of a Pearson Scholar”. Given the loose definition
left up to interpretation, how it matches your journey thus far, is the challenge for you!
I’m Chiesa, a 2022 graduate, who was nominated for the scholarship last academic year. I put a lot
of meaning to my scholarship journey, and I hope that some takeaways based on my own
experiences can be helpful to the readers in understanding the grit it takes during university
admissions season.
About Me
During middle school, I was solely an academic kid. Only as I
entered 10th grade did I realize the importance of independent
learning. I became involved in organizations within and outside
of school, joined a couple of competitions, and even published
my own paper. As time passes, I become more and more
selective by the experiences I choose to be involved in, such that
I can truly find meaning in the things that I do.
Selection Process
The selection started from an internal selection, and only one
person a year can be nominated. The internal selection includes
an interview with some members of the school board. I have
decided to treat every interview like a conversation (minding
structure and courtesy) such that I can fully express myself.
Although this stage is usually the bane of the existence of many
scholarship hunters, I find it to be the golden opportunity to
show your worth. Do not be generic, and think deeply!
It’s easy to find excuses or blame circumstances as to why you cannot achieve as
much as others. Not saying those systematic things don’t impact your outcomes,
but I believe that we must leverage what we have and forge our own path. This is
how I look like doing everything online. Me, my little laggy laptop, my little shrill
headphones, stacked blankets as a table, against the world.

"WE" COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS Vol.4 / NOV - DEC 2022
LEARNING TOGETHER WITH AN SBR ALUMNI
Reflections
It was an incredibly draining process. The hard work, hope, anticipation. In the end, I didn’t end up
getting the Lester B. Pearson scholarship. I got into all three of my choices, which were spread
across the three different UofT campuses: Mississauga (Social Science), St. George (Arts &
Science), and Scarborough (Co-Op Management and International Business). I am lucky to have
received their International Scholar Award valued at up to $100,000 over four years of study as
well as a merit-based University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) Entrance Award of Distinction in
the amount of $3,000. However, they were not enough for me to pursue my studies in Canada. I
was very heartbroken back then, but now, doing my undergraduate course in Singapore instead, I
look back at it fondly. I did not mourn it because it was not a failure to me. I did the very best I
could, and I didn’t let the opportunity go to waste.
I will tell you truthfully that when preparing for scholarships
and university admissions, there is not one sure-fire method
that will ensure success. You seize the opportunity, and
ensure that when you look back, you will not regret that you
didn’t do more. University application season is stressful, so
make sure you look at yourself through an empowering lens.
You are selecting the university you will attend, you will be
paying for the educational experience, and you will be the
one who shapes your university experience to your desire.
Remember you are the final decision maker on what
university deserves your presence and contribution.
Multitasking TOK Essay, EE, my
3rd draft of the UofT LBP
Scholarship essay, among others!
