FOREWORD Vol.3 / SEPTEMBER 2021
From SBR's Curriculum Coordinator
Dear Students, Staff, and Families,
Welcome to the end of term 1!
It is hard to believe that we are already finished with the first term of the school year. It has been
inspiring to watch everyone work together to ensure that the beginning of the school year has been a
huge success.
Our teachers, students, and staff have been spending time continuously improving the aspects of our
online learning while also preparing for the return to on campus instruction.
As we look forward to a phased reopening of the campus over the next few weeks, I would like to take
the time to thank everyone involved, from the SBR Gugus Covid task force, to the teachers and staff, as
well as the students, parents and families who were involved in giving input, advice, and feedback on
all of the planning stages.
The reopening plan is a reflection of the work of a lot of people, with a reopening task force that has
had people working diligently throughout the past 18 months to craft, continually revise, and execute
the plan with the goal of a safe return to in-person instruction.
We hope that you were able to attend our reopening update session held on Monday, October 4th
2021.
The majority of our presentation covered some of the new changes based on national and local
government policies for school reopening, how we have prepared our facilities, updates on the health
and safety and tracing protocols, and we also heard from each principal as they went over some of the
new changes to the reopening dates and schedules for each of their levels. While much of the content
had been covered in the Parent Information Sessions held previously at each level, we felt it important
to reacquaint everyone with the policies and procedures as we begin the phased reopening of in-
person instruction.
We appreciate all of the questions and the feedback from the parents and students who were able to
attend. For those who were unable to attend, we will be posting further information on our website to
reflect the updated policies set forth by the government, as well as address the helpful feedback and
additional questions posed during the session.
If there is any additional information or feedback that you would like to share, you may email us at
[email protected], and we will follow up with the relevant departments to get those
answers to you as quickly as possible.
We realize that adapting to a new learning environment is challenging and we appreciate all of the
feedback that we have received from parents. We are consistently working to make sure that our
students have the best learning environment possible.
Once again, we thank our amazing SBR community for your continuous support, and we would like to
wish everyone a happy term break, as we spend valuable time with our families at home.

PG-K LITERACY WEEK 2021
“The journey of a lifetime starts with the turning of a
page.” -Rachel Auders
PG-K Sekolah Bogor Raya celebrated Literacy Week held on 6-10 September 2021, carrying the theme
“Happy Campers, Happy Readers.” This year’s Literacy Week aimed to celebrate and flourish the love of
reading in PG-K students, families, and school community members.
One of the highlights of this year’s Literacy Week is our Literacy Festival. Students, families, and teachers
dressed up as their favorite book characters, dressed up according to our theme as a camper, shared their
favorite book and the reason why they liked it and read as many books as they could in a particular period
in GetEpic! We were thrilled to see all the entries, as some of them were also shared through social media
and even more created a sense of celebration within our community as to why reading in early years is
particularly important. As our appreciation for students who joined the contest in Literacy Festival, we
selected winners from each category. Congratulations, students!
Throughout Literacy Week, students were engaged in fun activities related to the love of reading, such as
guessing the storybooks, do the movements based on the storybooks, and show and tell their favorite
storybooks to teachers and friends. We also invited parents and school community members as special
guests to do the virtual storytelling in each class. It was a memorable experience and we would like to
thank all parents and school community members who participated as our special storytellers.
Last but not least, our main event, virtual camping, and storytelling of “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” was
held on Friday, 10 September 2021. It was a blast as students and teachers dressed up as campers by
wearing jackets, hats, boots, backpacks. Some of the students even bring their binoculars and other
camping equipment! They also set up a tent with their own version. Some set up a real tent, some use
their creativity by using a blanket, and some also use a virtual camping background. We showed each
other our campsite, had our simple breakfast together, and watched virtual storytelling of “We’re Going
on a Bear Hunt” starring PG-K school community members. At the end of the event, students did the
reflection related to Learner Profile as to whether they have become Thinker and/or Communicator
throughout the Literacy Week.
Thank you PG-K students, families, and school community members for a fantastic, fun-filled Literacy
Week!

Time flies so fast!
It's almost the end of theme 1, K1s! This
theme is filled with fun, excitement, and a lot
of new experiences for K1 students. They
learn and do the given tasks with pleasure.
Some of them show their happy faces, and
some show their grumpy faces, but you know,
whatever face they show, they still look so
cute.
On their first theme, they learn about the body parts and five senses by touching different textures and
tasting different tastes such as sweet, sour, bitter, and salty. By doing all of these, the students show their
risk-taker profile, which shows that they are brave learners and want to try new things.
The most awaited thing in this theme is our Drive-In Learning. Finally, we got our chance again to do a
Drive-In Learning session. In this session, all of them showed their delight and enthusiasm. They sing
together and try to lead the morning prayer by themselves. With these activities, students develop their
communication skills. They remember the morning and closing prayer. They try to speak with a loud voice
in front of their friends.
What brave students, K1s! Good job.

In the first theme, the students got the chance to have a
virtual yet meaningful discussion with Dr. Anna Silalahi

After the doctor’s explanation, Prep students’ curiosity

eager to know more about their bodies and senses.
To keep our balance in taking care of our body and mind,
Prep students also had the chance to eat healthy foods
together during our virtual learning session. However,
here’s the catch, the food that they bring, should be
healthy food that they have never tried before.
We were thrilled to see that some students were able to
find out that the veggies they didn’t like before were
actually delicious. We also had good sharing sessions
coming from the students who still find the food difficult
to eat, as they learn to acknowledge their feelings and
rack their brains to find logical reasons for why they do
not like the food.
We had lots of moments during the virtual sessions in
which the students are asked to observe and explore the
surroundings by using their five senses. Therefore, while
inquiring about their own body, the students also get the
experience to acknowledge and respect what they
already have.
We are currently in the beginning weeks of the second

We are looking forward to learning new things together!

PRIMARY SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS
Traditional Literacy and Digital Literacy
Gadgets, games, GIFs, & Google; The digital world is a big place! While it may seem daunting, it’s important to
consider how our young learners are growing with the online world. Now more than ever, at school and at home, we
should prepare children to safely navigate the digital world. This challenge is not without benefits though! Did you
know that digital literacy can actually support traditional literacy?
What is literacy?
Most of us probably think of literacy pretty traditionally. Literacy is the ability to write and read to gain meaning and
understanding.
What is digital literacy and how does it support traditional literacy?
To be digitally literate means to be able to find, assess, produce as well as convey information using information and
communication technology. Simply put, digital literacy means locating and consuming digital content; creating
digital content; and communicating or sharing it. We do this all the time! Whether using our favorite app, a kindle,
or navigating a news website.
Looking at the definitions of traditional and digital literacy, it may seem like the two are not related. But actually,
digital literacy is swiftly improving our learner’s communication, critical thinking, and literacy skills. They develop
and engage with the world through visuals, diagrams, audio, and video media, enhancing their reading and writing
abilities. They also develop dynamic creativity, which aids them in thinking, communicating, designing, and
engaging in the world (Education Corner, n.d.)
What are some ways to encourage productive digital literacy at home?
There are plenty of ways to support children's overall literacy development at home. Try some of these out!
Allow your child to manage their own digital calendar through an app or Google Calendar
Encourage your child to open, navigate, and type emails to friends and family
Young learners will enjoy interactive learning sites like www.StarFall.com, which offers games, reading, and
interesting click-around activities.
Bridging the Gap in the Digital Divide
One of the challenges facing students and teachers is the digital divide and this has been highlighted by the recent
pandemic. There are huge differences in people’s access to digital technology, including hardware, software, and
internet access. Therefore we need to work together to ensure that digital and traditional literacy is used effectively
to complement each other.
How can we use digital literacy to motivate and engage learners?
Most students use technology in their daily lives and are more
competent users of it than their parents and teachers. However, it is
important to guide them on the proper use of technology and ensure
they are using it correctly. As long as it is used appropriately, it can be a
fantastic tool that complements students’ overall learning. Many
students, especially preteens, may feel reluctant to pick up a book to
read but are actually reading consistently every day through digital
literacy. There are fantastic websites available, such as ReadTheory
which can offer interactive and engaging activities to develop
students’ reading comprehension and lexical skills.

Online Collaboration Forum: “Future Leaders Tongue: Pandemic Covid-19”
On September 9, 2021, Sekolah Bogor Raya was invited to take part in the Online Collaboration Forum: “Future
Leaders Tongue: Pandemic Covid-19” which is hosted by Sekolah Kebangsaan, Sungai Baru, Kedah, Malaysia.
Supported by Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Kedah, this event involves students
from Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. This was the first of what plans to be an annual event.
During the forum, students shared their opinions about the CoronaVirus pandemic from their perspectives; The
changes they witnessed in education, and how to overcome missing time or activities with others.
We proudly introduced Sastri and Elaine from Grade 5, who were chosen to represent Indonesia in the forum. This
event was a good opportunity to build and strengthen connections with students internationally (especially those in
Malaysia and Thailand). Students were able to raise awareness about what's happening in their surroundings,
country, and how the pandemic affected them and those around them. Participants demonstrated communication
skills when sharing their opinions and opened the door to maintain relationships and collaborations in the future.
Both Sastri and Elaine were very excited, grateful, and happy as they were selected to participate in this student
forum event. It was their first experience joining an international forum like this. When asked about the event, both
girls agreed that this was a great opportunity for them to speak up about their opinions and share with others. They
also said that this event was very inspirational and hope there will be more events like this in the future.
Before the forum was held, some preparations were done to make it run smoothly, including speaking practice, how
to convey their opinion in the forum with the right tone, intonation, and expression. Sastri said that “It took
commitment and lots of practice to prepare,” but “this practice also made us feel more confident”, Elaine added.
Nothing is ever as easy as it looks, they went through the practice process until they were able to present theirs and
share their thoughts in the forum. Both Sastri and Elaine faced some challenges while preparing this. For Sastri, the
challenging part was while making the script and also recording the video. She said that “The script had to be
informational and I had to share my opinion and thoughts well. It was a bit difficult to perfect the script. And, when
creating the final video, it took a few takes because there were parts that were more difficult to read.” While for
Elaine, the challenging part was making the video because she often mispronounced some words so she needed to
retake the video.
Sastri and Elaine hope that there will be more opportunities for students to experience this kind of activity like them.
They also share motivational messages for their fellow friends and students to be able to participate in this kind of
event.

STUDENTS MEET THE EXPERTS
What’s up, Doc? Expert Visit by dr Ferry Hadinata to discuss
about the Human Body System
The Grade 4 students are in the middle of Theme 2 “Who We Are”. We have
been exploring the human body systems and how we can maintain our body
systems to stay healthy.
This week we had a wonderful opportunity to have an expert visit us, Dr.
Ferry Hadinata, a pediatrician. Dr Ferry Hadinata has years of experience
around several hospitals in Bogor, helping babies and young children.
Dr. Ferry Hadinata clearly explained all of the systems in our body, the
functions, and how they are connected to each other. Dr. Ferry also
explained how to maintain our body system to stay healthy especially for
young children.
The Grade 4 students were very attentive during Dr. Ferry's presentation,
and they listened carefully to the explanations. The kids showed their
enthusiasm by endlessly asking questions. They were very curious about
how to maintain our health, what’s going on inside the body system, what
will happen if someone gets sick, and particularly questions related to the
pandemic, such as how to beat viruses and the importance of sports and
healthy food.
It was a great opportunity for the Grade 4 students to experience an
interactive session with a doctor, as they had been very curious about the
human body systems and how to keep themselves healthy. (YK)

Bapak Bayu Alzhihan
Under the transdisciplinary theme “How We Organize

of media and how people use them to communicate
messages. To enrich their understanding of this topic, we
invited Pak Bayu Alzhihan, the school counselor, to be our
guest speaker.
Throughout the session, the students learned a lot about
internet media and the positive and negative side effects.
The session also helped identify several tips to break free
from unhealthy internet habits.
The students were eager to share their own experiences
with internet media as well as the side effects they
experience due to the over-excessive use of some internet
sites.
At the end of the session, Pak Bayu introduced the daily
journal project which is related to digital minimalism. The
students were challenged to develop their sense of
responsibility and self-management when using internet
media. (NP)

STUDENTS MEET THE EXPERTS
How India Fight for Covid-19
(Sharing session with Mr.Tarun Gogini)
It was an insightful session we had with Mr. Tarun Gogini, our guest speaker from India. Mr.Tarun shared with us a
story about how India, as the 7th largest country in the world has adapted so far during the Covid-19 pandemic.
We had many interesting questions about how the government and society are dealing with the situation, such as a
question about how India is able to maintain social distance or how the online learning process is working so far in
both urban and rural areas. Other interesting questions included whether or not there was a minimum age
requirement for children to be vaccinated and whether or not India’s government has developed its own vaccines. We
also learned about how the government is preparing the country for a possible third wave of the pandemic.
Thank you Mr.Tarun!
In addition, we also discovered the similarities between how Indonesia and India are dealing with the pandemic
situation and the strategies that have been carried out by the government regarding the decision making for the
education system in both countries. We learned how important it is for the citizens to obey all of the rules
implemented by the government. The decision making for a country is never easy to regulate. The government needs
to consider many factors, but, as citizens, we need to put our trust in them and maintain self discipline in order to
comply with every rule. Thank you, Mr. Tarun! It was a lovely session and we were able to realize that we are not
alone in this pandemic situation. We have learned that everyone struggles to adapt with everything and the
government of a country has an important role in creating the best system it can to help us overcome every social
problem. (WA)

What We Know About Succession Around the World?
(Session with a Historian)
Prabu: "How does a monarchy country choose the next
king/queen if the former ruler does not have a son or
daughter?"
Amalia: "Why are there so many different government
systems in the world?"
Kireina: "Can countries have more than one government
system?"
Those challenging questions were answered
comprehensively and clearly by Pak Petrik on Tuesday, 28
September 2021, in the Grade 5 Sharing Session. All of the
explanations and answers made the students nod their heads
happily, feeling satisfied with his incredible explanations.
Let’s know more about the governmental system in the world!
Pak Petrik is a historian as well as a book writer and contributor for
famous online media portals. He shared his amazing and abundant
stories about the uniqueness of ancient kingdoms in Indonesia, how
leaders expanded their territories and even more about the unique
names of kings such as arung, datu, sultan or sunan.
He also shared stories about how Indonesia uniquely changed its
government system since 1959. It began with a parliamentary system,
then switched to a presidential system in 1967, before moving back to
a parliamentary system in 1998.
He shared unique stories about the republic presidential system in
Angola, a country in the Southwest of Africa. He also shared the story
of the Vatican City, a small country governed by an absolute monarchy
with the pope as its head.
Additionally, he also shared stories about how a communist country such as North Korea uniquely rules its government
system and its citizens.
"So, with this variety of succession happening around the world, is it possible that a brand new system of government
could develop?", asked one of the students. Pak Petrik answered enthusiastically, "Of course, boy, you are the future
leaders and you may create a new system that may be adopted in the future!"
Wow! Such an inspiring and motivating discussion at the end of the session.
Hey, future leaders! Tomorrow is yours! (ABK and CRA)

Grade 2 Slow and steady wins the race.
-The Tortoise and The Hare, AESOP’s fables-
DEAR time activity Reading is not only a process of interpreting written
symbols, letters and understanding the meaning of them,
but also a receptive skill that allows us to receive
information and learn something new. Reading allows us to
access stories from around the world. Reading stories lets
us into somebody else’s shoes and shows us a new
perspective of the world that we might have never seen or
considered before.
Drop Everything and Read Session (DEAR TIME) is a
morning routine session that Grade 2 students have every
Friday. In this session, they are allowed to share and read
their favorite books in front of their friends and teachers.
Some students even love to show their clothes or things
that are related to the books that they read.
To Celebrate Literacy Month this September, Grade 2 picked a fable story as the big theme for their DEAR time session.
They weren’t only so excited just to share their book and tell about their favorite book’s character, the students were
also active in sharing and discussing the message of every story that their friends or teachers read. These activities
inspired their imagination when creating animal crowns or masks related to the book. Reading fables' also produces
necessary knowledge in a comforting way.
“We need to be kind and make friends with everyone, so we can have a great adventure,” said some grade 2A students
while reacting to the story of “Sydney and The Seven Seas” that was read by Rayyan.

Grade 2 spirits of literacy do not only happen in the class. The reading spirit spread to their home. Some students even
asked their parents to collaborate with them to read a story and send their recorded reading video to their teacher to
be shared during the DEAR Time session. We experience a new sense of happiness as teachers to see the student’s
spirit and enthusiasm for reading. Thank you to our dearest students, parents, teachers, and Sekolah Bogor Raya who
have always supported students' literacy spirit and enthusiasm every year. (RA)

Grade 3 We Build Our Legacy Through Literacy!
“There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of
books is the best of all.” ~Jacqueline Kennedy
We all, no doubt, agree with the caption above. Reading books is definitely an amazing way to explore a world we have
never known or seen. In connection to that, Literacy Week has been a great moment for us to spread the joy of reading.
We are glad to share that grade 3 students celebrated this Literacy Week with a huge focus on reading books and
writing activities such as reading aloud storybooks, having DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) Time, telling the
summary of their favorite book, and reading some storybooks with parents at home.

Grade 5 Stay Creative Celebrating Language
Month with “Tiga Menit Bercerita”
This year, we have literacy festivals that give students chances to share their love in readings. Grade five students are
very excited to join in through the Tiga Menit Bercerita (Three Minutes Telling A Story) activity.
Tiga Menit Bercerita is a chance to creatively exhibit their writing and speaking skills. Students retell a folktale or a
fairytale with their own words in this exercise, having previously written the script with Indonesian language
teachers. The children created puppets to depict the folktale/fairytale characters, which was an interesting aspect of
activity. Tiga Menit Bercerita has indeed given the students a chance to express their creativity through language.
Mozael performed Si Pitung Akia performed Malin Kundang Adel and Shann with their Batu Menangis puppets
Elaine, Avangelique, and Chelsea with their fairytale puppets The students acted out a variety of
folktales from around Indonesia. Mozael,
for example, performed a story about “Si
Pitung”, a legend from Betawi tribes. A
well-known story from West Sumatera,
“Malin Kundang”, was also shown by
Akia.
Different from their friends, Adel and Shann presented “Batu Menangis” from West Kalimantan. Besides folktales,
some students also went on with fairytales, such as Elaine, Chelsea, and Avangelique who performed “Petuah Pohon
Tua”.
The celebration of literacy month is our momentum to increase our pride in the Indonesian language. Despite the
pandemic, the 5th graders of Sekolah Bogor Raya demonstrated how reading can be presented and enjoyed creatively.

Grade 6 Hello, Literacy Month!
It is time for us to explore our creativity, imagination, and our love for literacy. Now that we have investigated
world hunger issues and solutions during our Theme 1 learning journey, we are ready for Theme 2 and to learn
more about social problems and systems of government. September is also a month to start new adventures and
to welcome October as we will be celebrating the Literacy Festival in Primary.
Sharing through Reading is fun! What do we like from a book?
Literacy is the never-ending ability and
willingness to engage with language through a
multitude of reading, listening, and writing
activities. We are excited to be more involved
in sharing our love of literacy with others in
our community. We read more books and
share them by becoming reading buddies. It’s
also quite fun to learn to be digitally literate
during this online learning. We have promoted
our taste in books through digital flipbooks.
We have learned to be more engaged with the
story itself by making connections using our
imagination.
We’ve been there! It’s Dejavu!? Literacy is for everyone. We can inspire each other through
books, reading, and writing. D.E.A.R time will always be our
morning moment to embrace the beauty behind every story.
It is the literacy that has taught us to be more empathetic to
situations beyond our imagination. Literacy has brought our
minds to think logically and critically in responding to facts
and issues. Thank you to the Literacy Event for giving us the
opportunity to explore the world through literacy and to
make it more festive than ever! (WA)

A Bite For All Article
By : Bianca Serafine Widjaja
According to the World Food Programme ( WFP ), access to food is uneven in
Indonesia due to poverty and lack of infrastructure. Hence, 19.4 million
Indonesia citizens are malnourished and approximately 37% of Indonesian
children under five years old are stunted.
Our A Bite For All Club revolves around the second Sustainable Development
Goal, Zero Hunger. “End Hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and
promote sustainable agriculture.”. We aim to help reduce hunger and raise
public awareness, starting with the communities around Bogor. Our objective
is to improve the well being of local communities through providing food
assistance and advocacy.
In an effort to work towards our goal, we started our first project last year,
where we held different fundraisers to raise money. We sold custom-made
masks and food, including delicious home-made katsudon and Korean garlic
cheese bread. The money raised will then be used to purchase sembako which
will be donated to different communities or orphanages at the end of each
academic term. This year we plan on continuing on with our project, hoping to
increase our reach and assist more people during this pandemic. Find us on
Instagram (@abiteforall.id or instagram.com/abiteforall.id) to join in on our
journey!
History Lovers Club: Ye Olde History Snippets
By Dexter W
Generally, many people are not eager to study history as a discipline, but they are fascinated and always enjoy when they
hear stories, especially good stories from the past - whether it is about how people, how empires were founded, or even it
is about discoveries in the past that had changed the life of homo sapiens.
Whatever one might think about history, none could challenge how important it is. A king must learn the past; King Henry
VIII learnt his defeats and wins of his battles to conquer another country. By learning about history, we could build a vast
understanding of the world around us. Without learning the past, we could not build the future.
Hence, in History Club our members share what we know and learn through
each other's knowledge. In the SBR History Club's Instagram account, there
are interesting facts on history such as the Story of Saukko, in which by the
time of her launching in 1930 was the smallest submarine in the World, and
My Ancestor - The Genographic ‘Jota’. To learn more, you could find out on
@sbrhistoryclub. We plan to make more posts like these once a week or
once in two weeks by the members of the History Club.
To this date, we have already started the making of an animated video
which would be the main project for the History Club. So far, we have
started on deciding the topic.
So don't forget to follow @sbrhistoryclub on Instagram to learn more
about History!

Cinematography
by Viona
What is cinematography?
Cinematography is the artwork of images and
visual storytelling in a motion image or television
show. Cinematography incorporates all on-display
visible elements, such as lighting fixtures, framing,
composition, digital camera movement, digital
camera angles, film choice, lens choices, depth of
field, zoom, cognizance, shade, exposure, and
filtration.
Differences between photography and
cinematography
The differences between photography and
cinematography are many. A single image can
be a whole work in itself. However, a
cinematographer deals with groups of people
between shots and between businesses of
pictures. Cinematography is also a long way
greater collaborative than photography. The
cinematographer must plan their work with the
producer, the director, the designer, the sound
technicians, and each of the actors. The camera
crew itself can be complicated and very
complex, particularly in a future film.
Adding emotion to stories; using a variety of different camera angles to enhance films, was the focus
of our Term 1 activity. Knowing which angles to use, and when to use them, is vital in the art of
filmmaking; giving your audience multiple perspectives of what they are looking at, and how to
understand a scene was highlighted during the introduction led by our club leader.
The 12 camera angles that we studied and had practice with, were: wide shot angles, long shot,
medium shot, cowboy shot, tight or close up shot, detail or extreme close up shot, low angle shot, high
angle shot, Dutch angle shot, over the shoulder shot, POV shot, and cutaway shot.

INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY 2021
WEBINAR WITH BAPAK INDRIYATNO BANYUMURTI
As the Covid 19 pandemic continues to occur, there is a massive gap between the privileged students and the
disadvantaged ones in terms of the availability of internet access and facilities required for online studying. The
privileged students have everything they need for remote learning, while the disadvantaged ones have very limited
options for studying. This fact was discussed in a webinar to commemorate the International Literacy Day 2021 on
September 8, 2021. The guest speaker of the webinar is Bapak Indriyatno Banyumurti from ICT Watch Indonesia.
The main topic of the webinar is Building the Awareness of Narrowing the Digital Divide and The Importance of
Digital Literacy. The participants of the webinar are all of the Secondary School students and teachers.
In the webinar we also discussed the importance of maintaining the responsibility of accessing the internet and also
the importance of secure and safe internet usage. To be responsible in using the internet, the students were
reminded to be respectful to the other internet users whatever the platform is. Therefore it is extremely important
for the students to respect the users’ privacy as well. The webinar was very informative and engaging that the
students came with many questions at the end of the session. As the follow up of the event, the students will plan
and create a campaign regarding the International Digital Literacy Day. The campaign will be claimed as their
MYCAS (for Gr. 7 to 10) and CAS (for Gr. 11 to 12 experience. By doing the campaign, the students will start to
build their awareness on the importance of digital literacy in their study and in their daily lives. (FKUL)

STUDENT COUNCIL LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND
INAUGURATION CEREMONY 2021-2022
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more
and become more, you are a leader." -John Quincy Adams
Sekolah Bogor Raya has annually held its Student Council
Leadership Training and Inauguration chronologically from 16th
August 2021 to 19th August 2021. With great anticipation and
excitement, the newly chosen SMP and SMA StuCon recruits with
this year’s SMP and SMA Presidents and Vice Presidents
underwent leadership sessions which covered a plethora of topics
and have undergone differentiated activities which bolstered their
unity and collaboration as a cohesive unit for the betterment of
the student body. The leadership topics ranged from “Peer
Connectedness” (led by Vebrynovitha Thiara), “Student
Governance” (delivered by “Mariza Agnes T. Lardizabal -), “Team
Building” (facilitated by Stephanie Sinaga - COO of YouthAble
and Psychology Teacher at Beijing 101), “Conflict Resolution”
(communicated by Dewi Sartika - SBR School Counselor), and
“Leadership and Ethics” (spearheaded by Andri Nurcahyani - SBR
Secondary Principal).
The provided sessions covered a multitude of lessons which enhanced the skills and character development of each
student council member. In addition to this wonderful event, the Inauguration Ceremony followed and the school’s
student leaders and members were officially legitimized as our 2021-2022 Student Council Body.
This was a great start to a year full of fulfilling student vision as well as encouraging others to heed the call of action for
a more solidified Sekolah Bogor Raya Secondary community! (JL)

SBR STUDENTS SNAG SOFTWARE SPECIALIST SCHOLARSHIPS
CHRIS ENGLAND
Another noteworthy addition to an already active year for SBR students having multitudes of opportunities to
participate and compete in international events is the securing of three scholarships offered by MyEduSolve.
MyEduSolve is an EdTech company centered in education working towards transforming Indonesia’s youth through
digital literacy. In August, MyEduSolve hosted the Adobe Certified Professional National Championship and the
Microsoft Office Specialist National Championship.
They were gracious enough to offer two scholarships to our 8th graders Cherly and Valerie to receive certification as
Adobe Certified Professionals and enter them into the championship. In a similar fashion, one scholarship was offered
to our 10th grader Daniel to receive certification as a Microsoft Office Specialist and enter him in the respective
event. The training and certification the three students received will surely benefit them in their academics and help
them with college applications and later in their careers. Way to go, you three! (CE)
Laying the Path to Global Citizenship
Sekolah Bogor Raya’s vision is “To be a leading international standard school providing high-quality education to
equip our students to excel in a rapidly-changing world.” In no better way can we prepare our students to excel in a
rapidly-changing world than by offering them abundant opportunities aimed at preparing them for life after graduation
and readying them for their intended career fields.
This year, for the first time ever, SBR has created the role of International Programs Coordinator to ensure even more
so that your child/children have such favorable circumstances. Mr Chris England has been selected to fulfil that role
and, so far, it’s going well. One noteworthy success has been establishing a relationship with Learn with Leaders in
order to bring high-quality, academic programs in collaboration with some of the leading educational institutions
across the world to our students’ doorsteps.
In August, Mr Chris presented a handful of such programs and we are excited and proud to announce that several of
our students have been accepted into some of them. Abiyusyah Haidar Rainier (8A), Olivier Basuki (8A), and Giovanna
Annaliese Santoro (8A) have all been accepted into the Future Doctors Program by Harvard Student Agencies.
Additionally, Cherly Bertine (8A) has been accepted into the Future Lawyers Program by Harvard Student Agencies.
Finally, Daniel Sudirjo (10B) has been accepted into the Harvard Student Agencies Young Leaders in Innovation and
Entrepreneurship Program. Congratulations to each one of you and good luck in your respected programs. We wish
you the best experiences in your participation and we know that they will help develop you as future global citizens.
Examples of international programs like those are just a few of the many that will be offered to our students this year.
We will keep working hard to ensure that the SBR community is working together, inspiring success! (CE)

5W 1H APTITUDE TEST
Aptitude tests are tests conducted to provide structured assessments with the aim of evaluating a
student's talents or skills in terms of completing a particular task without prior knowledge or expertise.
This test is not done to test students' knowledge or insight into something, but to find out the natural
talents that students have and their suitability for the field of major in college or university.
The implementation of the aptitude test was held on Saturday, September 18th, 2021 at 09:00 – 11:30.
The aptitude test was conducted virtually via a Zoom meeting.
The aptitude test, which was conducted in collaboration with Sekolah Bogor Raya and Tes Bakat
Indonesia (TBI), was given to 10th grade students.
Teenagers are characterized by a more critical way of thinking and getting serious about the future:
including career problems, the attitude towards education, and the interest in continuing to pursue
higher education. Thinking about and planning for the future is not easy, and is a challenge faced by
teenagers. It is no wonder that a teenager looks very inconsistent and confused when faced with a
choice.
10th graders are teenagers who will make the decision for the selection of subjects in the 11th grade of
IBDP, where the subject to be selected is expected to be in accordance with the major in the college to
be taken. In addition, the choice of subject for Cambridge examinations in grade 10 is expected in
accordance with the major in college.
Seeing these conditions, Sekolah Bogor Raya helps students recognize their competence and find
majors that are in demand by each student through the implementation of aptitude tests.
Sekolah Bogor Raya facilitates the implementation of an aptitude test for 10th graders who have not
conducted an aptitude test in the last two years and who are willing to do so with psychology
institutions in collaboration with schools, where this year is organized by The Tes Bakat Indonesia (TBI).
Students who have had the results of aptitude tests conducted in the last two years are allowed to
retake this aptitude test and students are also allowed to take the aptitude test conducted by a
psychology institution other than the facilitation of school. Aptitude test results from other
psychological institutions are sent to the counselor's email to be able to assist the counselor in guiding
and directing students related to the competence, interests and subject choices to be taken in grade 11.
Students who have registered get a technical meeting (Friday, September 17th, 2021) with the team of
Test Bakat Indonesia for technical and physical test preparation information. On the day of the test,
students are required to attend 30 minutes before the test takes place to check cameras, technical
matters and record their attendance. Students who are unwell or unable to attend because of other
important things can follow the aptitude test with a test schedule that will be confirmed later.
Students work on the test through a link with work access opened when the implementation time
begins. All students must open the Zoom meeting camera directed at their face so that supervisors can
immediately help when they have difficulties that are visible from their facial expressions. Students can
also ask instructors and supervisors via the chat box in the Zoom meeting.
The test results will be sent to the parents' email by Sekolah Bogor Raya about 1 month after the test is
carried out and 1-2 weeks later after that, there will be a seminar for parents to find out more details in
reading the results of students’ aptitude test.

PARLEMEN REMAJA 2021
-NARES AND FELICIA AUDREY-
Parlemen Remaja is an annual event hosted by the Indonesian Parliament (DPR RI), which aims to allow senior
high school students from all over Indonesia to understand the Indonesian parliamentary system through a 5-
day-long simulation as a member of the parliament. The event’s main objectives include; to socialize the roles of
the Indonesian Parliament for youths, provide youths with knowledge about the parliament’s policy-making
process, and increase the understanding of Indonesia’s democratic processes. Parlemen Remaja 2021 had the
theme of “Remaja di Era Kebebasan Informasi: Siaran Berkualitas, Masyarakat Cerdas,” putting a focus on
discussions upon UU Nomor 32 Tahun 2002, which concerns broadcasting.
This year, Nares and Felicia Audrey from 10B, were honoured to have been selected as 2 of the 131
representatives for Parlemen Remaja, out of the 5.458 applicants. We were given the opportunity to represent
West Java throughout the course of the 5-day simulation. The selection process involved the submission of a
CV through a form, campaign video, and essay. Our essays revolved around the theme of “Peran Remaja Dalam
Mendukung Siaran yang Berkualitas untuk Masyarakat Cerdas,” whilst our campaign videos were based on the
theme of “Jika Saya Menjadi Anggota DPR: Apa yang Akan Dilakukan Dalam Mewujudkan Siaran Berkualitas untuk
Masyarakat Cerdas?” Thankfully, our teachers thoroughly guided us throughout the process.
After we were selected, we did some pre-activities like meetings with our fraksi (factions). Nares was placed in
Fraksi Tidore, while Felicia Audrey was placed in Fraksi Majapahit. We were given a handful of materials, such
as Daftar Inventarisasi Masalah (DIM) and scenarios for our meetings. During the course of the main event, we
took part in simulations of real parliamentary activities, such as Rapat Dengar Pendapat Umum, Kunjungan
Kerja, Rapat Kerja, and Rapat Paripurna. It was a true simulation of what DPR did! We were especially fond of
the Rapat Kerja as it was the time where each faction got to deliver their perspectives. We believe that through
these activities, we got a true taste of how the Indonesian Parliament works, and how decisions are made
within the parliament!
Here are our thoughts about being selected!
Felicia Audrey: It felt kind of surreal that we got selected as the selection was extremely competitive.
Nonetheless, we’re both honoured to have been trusted to represent our province and city for this great event.
I'm grateful for the experience as I believe that it gave me very insightful materials regarding an issue Indonesia
is currently facing, which is the issue of quality broadcasts. Furthermore, I'm grateful to have met numerous
like-minded youths, especially within Fraksi Majapahit, and to have been selected with Nares in order to
explore Indonesia's parliamentary system together. I believe that we gained a satisfactory amount of
knowledge in those 5 days which will lead all 131 of us, Parlemen Remaja 2021 members, to become more
thoughtful youths in order to lead Indonesia for the better.
Nares: I also felt the same things like what Felicia Audrey just mentioned. Parlemen Remaja also taught me so
many things. It taught me the process that we've been through, new friendship and family. It's such a nice
experience, like I even had meetings with my faction (Fraksi Tidore) more than 5 times before the event actually
started. We learned so many things, and I got a lot of insights from them. It's not about whether you win or not,
but it's about the process. You gain new knowledge, new friends, new perspectives, and I guess that is much
more meaningful than just winning, and until right now, I can't even forget Fraksi Tidore. Even though the event
ended, our journey doesn't really end.
With that being said, we’d like to take this opportunity to invite you to join Parlemen Remaja 2022! As the first
round of Parlemen Remaja applicants from SBR, we highly encourage you to apply for next year’s Parlemen
Remaja. There is still a lot of time left, and we believe this abundance of time will allow you to prepare well for
next year’s selection! It’ll be a great opportunity to learn about Indonesia’s parliamentary system and their
democratic processes.

LEARNING TOGETHER WITH AN SBR STUDENT
Cherly Bertine (Cherly) was born on April 17th, 2008. She has
been studying at Sekolah Bogor Raya since 2011. Her hobbies
include drawing, writing, as well as public speaking.
She is the current president of the Student Council for Junior
High School, and beside learning and being active in student
council, she loves to join in different activities that require
thinking, analysing, writing and speaking abilities.
When joining competitions, she never really prepared anything
other than herself. She thinks that if she believes in herself, then
she is ready and confident with the results.
She thinks the most memorable experience of being chosen as the
Stucon president for Junior High School, or when she won a
competition, is the trust her fellow students gave her. It is not
easy to depend on, rely upon, or trust someone's potential. Thus,
winning competitions and being the Stucon president for JHS
makes her feel as if they put trust in her, and that they believe in
her potential.
Below is the list of her participation in competitive events :
- Participated in the Harvard Student Agencies x Learn with Leaders Future Lawyer Program
- Verbal mention at GSMUN 2021
- Participated in SKYMUN 2021
- Participated in JISMUN 2021
- Participated in Blueprint MUN 2021
- Participated in BBPB (Bye Bye Plastic Bags) MUN 2021
- Participated in Together MUN Korea 2021
- Finalist for Adobe Certified Professional National Championship
Her personal motto is “One lifetime is too short to venture
and experience everything, thus you'll always need a
person to share stories with you”. According to her, it
might sound boring, however, all the competitions and
events she joined were because of those people who told
her the story about their experiences in this field, thus
making her curious about it.

LEARNING TOGETHER WITH AN SBR TEACHER
Ibu Maria Regina Budiastuti (Bu Maria or Bu Rere) was
born on May 28th 1979. She finished her Master’s Degree
in Education for Early Childhood. She has been with
Sekolah Bogor Raya since 2003, and currently her position
is the Playgroup - Kindergarten (PG-K) Principal.
What she is happy about working in SBR is that she has the
opportunity to meet parents, students, teachers and a
wide variety of others in the SBR community and learn a
lot of things from them. In SBR, she was also able to
challenge herself to take the master's degree that she
never dreamed about before.
One of her most treasured wonderful experiences was when she got the opportunity to share her
knowledge with one of the schools in Papua. She enjoyed the moment, as at the same time she learned
a lot about how to change teachers’ perspectives in creating fun and creative classrooms; listening to
the young students, and celebrating every achievement that was made both by teachers and students.
She believes that teachers do amazing things besides teaching. They have to become a great observer,
artist, listener, and scientist, who always expresses positivity and enthusiasm in every action they do.
Another thing that she feels proud of is when achieving
“Healthy School (Sekolah Sehat)” in Bogor and also in the
province of West Java. She feels a great collaboration
between teachers, staff and students who made that
achievement happen. It shows a high awareness of the
importance of cleanliness and hygiene maintenance on
school premises.
Ibu Maria’s personal philosophy in education is “The
activities that are the easiest, cheapest, and most fun to do
– such as singing, playing games, reading, storytelling, and
just talking and listening – are also the best for child
development.” ~ Jerome Singer
Her personal motto is “YOLO" You Only Live Once, so give
your best and enjoy every moment in your life."

LEARNING TOGETHER WITH AN SBR PARENT
Ibu Vera Cox is mother of 3 students in Primary
School. She is a housewife and sells her
homemade cooking as well. Her hobbies include
food modification and cooking. Her favorite foods
are Mexican and Thai. She enjoys cooking
different styles of Western and Asian cuisines,
and also creating different delicious desserts.
Her favorite chef is Gordon Ramsay; as from him,
she learns about persistence, excellence and
quality food preparation, with meaningful
creativity.
As a parent, she supports her children studying at
home with time management, trust and control.
She always does her other activities in the early
morning after morning prayer. She prepares all
the things that she needs for her homemade
cooking business, then cooking simple breakfast
for her children afterwards, making sure they
wake on time for school, then finally going back
to her other activities from 7:30am to 10am (from
cooking, packing, and delivering).
At 10am, she is back with her children to make sure they follow the lessons. She always put
her trust in them doing their lessons independently and controlling their “to do” lists that are
given from school. Everything does not always go perfectly, but she makes sure they follow
the lessons and do their school work on track.
Her personal motto is “don’t compare your life with others. There’s no comparison between
the sun and the moon, they shine when it’s their time.
