Modal Verbs

Modal verbsคือ verb พิเศษที่เราต้องใช้ร่วม
กับ verb ตัวอื่น ที่จริงแล้ว Modal verbs ส่วน
มากมักจะไม่มีความหมายหากไม่มี verb อีกตัว
มาเสริม Modal verb แต่ละตัวจะใช้เพื่ออธิบาย
ว่า อย่างไร, ทำไม หรือเมื่อไหร่ที่การกระทำนั้นๆ
เกิดขึ้น Modal verbs มีทั้งหมด 10 ตัว ดังนี้

ข้อดีของ Modal verbs

คือ พวกมันมีกฎการใช้ง่ายๆ
3 แบบสำหรับการสร้างประโยค
บอกเล่า (affirmative sentence)
ประโยคปฏิเสธ (negative
sentence) และประโยคคำถาม
(interrogative sentence) สำหรับ
ประโยคบอกเล่า ไม่ว่าประธานจะ
เป็นรูปแบบไหน เราไม่จำเป็นต้อง
เปลี่ยน Modal verbs หรือก็คือ เรา
ไม่จำเป็นต้องเติม –s แม้ว่าประธาน
จะเป็นเอกพจน์บุคคลที่สาม (third
person singular)

ประโยคปฏิเสธ ให้เติมnot

ตัวอย่างเช่น: I will not go
หากจะทำเป็นประโยคคำถาม เราจะสลับประธาน
กับ Modal verbs

ตัวอย่างเช่น: Will i go
ประโยคขอร้อง

ตัวอย่าง: Can you open the door for me?

ประโยคการถามหรือการขออณุญาต

ตัวอย่างเช่น:
Excuse me, could we sit here?
Can I get myself a glass of water, John?

ประโยคที่แสดงถึงความสารถและความเป็ นไปได้

มี Modal verbs สองตัวที่เราสามารถใช้เพื่อพูดถึงความสามารถ นั่นคือ ‘can’ และ
‘could’ เราสามารถใช้ ‘can’ เพื่อกล่าวถึงความสามารถในปัจจุบันและความสามารถ
ทั่วไป และ ‘could’ เมื่อพูดถึงความสามารถในอดีต

ข้อห้าม

Modal verbs หลักที่เราใช้เพื่ออธิบายเกี่ยวกับข้อห้ามคือ
‘must’ เราสามารถใช้มันในประโยคบอกเล่าเพื่ออธิบาย
ถึงข้อบังคับ และในรูปประโยคปฏิเสธเพื่อบอกว่าไม่ควร
ทำบางสิ่งบางอย่าง ตัวอย่างเช่น

1.You mustn’t enter this room without permission.
2.I must start doing some exercise. I’m really
unfit.

ข้อแนะนำ

การที่จะสร้างประโยคที่แสดงถึงการแนะนำ เราสามารถ
ใช้ ‘can’, ‘could’, ‘shall’ และ ‘should’ ตัวอย่างเช่น

1.We can have a game of tennis later.
2.Shall we have a drink afterwards?
3.We should invite Rick and Olga too.
