THE JOURNEY AND STEWARDSHIP
OF THE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
COMMITTEE SO FAR
O n assuming the leadership of IGSOSANA in September 2019, The Capital Campaign Committee
came into being in late 2019 at the instance of Dr. Bayo Laniyonu, incumbent IGSOSANA President,
as an avenue for steady fundraising for the organization for the execution of IGSOSANA’s laudable
projects and the achievement of our goal of making Ibadan Grammar School a Center of Excellence
in Education by 2023. A team was quickly put together comprising the following members:
· Dr. Gboyega Osinbowale (Chairman)
· Dr. Bayo Laniyonu (IGSOSANA President()
· Mr. Jide Labiyi (former IGSOSANA Treasurer now replaced by Mrs. Desola Ayobiojo who is the
incumbent Treasurer since 2021)
· Mrs. Funke Oluyemi
· Mrs. Olawunmi Olafunmiloye (Chair, IGSOSANA’s STEM/Science Committee)
· Mr. Yinka Omole
· Mr. Yemi Adigun
The members of the Capital Campaign Committee dialogue regularly to come up with strategies to raise funds for
IGSOSANA’s projects in Ibadan Grammar School including quality science education, information technology, literature and
communication skills, career counseling and development, accountancy, economics, civic education and leadership skills.
We spend a considerable amount of our dialogues on the recruitment of well-trained teachers and allocation of proper
incentives to these teachers to obtain their buy-in and dedication to our cause and objectives for the students.
To raise the necessary funds for these laudable objectives, we have been concentrating our efforts on utilizing the
opportunities presented by the GlobalGiving organization and its beneficial matching program by participating in all their
campaigns which has netted our organization close to five figures in matching funds since we registered with them in
March 2020 as a non-profit partner. The last campaign we participated in was on July 20, 2022 and we raised $7,401,
obtained $1,920 in matching fund thus making a gross total of $9,321 during that campaign. As at the time of this report
on July 25, 2022, we have raised $74,504 (seventy four thousand, five hundred four US dollars) through the GlobalGiving
organization, starting March 2020 when we were finally approved as a full non-profit partner of the organization. We also
reach out regularly to donors who prefer to contribute directly through IGSOSANA’s website at www.igsosana.org and
many of our contributors have donated directly electronically through the website while some donors have sent in their
checks to the address listed on the website. We will be exploring and foraying into the world of grant-writing on behalf of
IGSOSANA in the nearest future as we put the necessary infrastructure and skill sets in place. The result of the 2022 NECO/
WAEC examination in Physics is certainly very encouraging and we hope and continue to anticipate that our well-meaning
efforts will continue to yield the best results in our march to make our School a Center of Excellence in Education in the
future.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to IGSOSANA members, families and friends of IGSOSANA who consistently
stepped up to contribute when called upon and especially our recurring monthly contributors. Our success thus far is highly
attributable to their unalloyed support and contributions. We
hope their continued support will inspire other IGSOSANA members and friends of IGSOSANA to also step up and help in
our quest to make Ibadan Grammar School a Center of Excellehool a Center of Excellence by 2023.
Respectfully submitted,

IT TEAM IS RECRUITING
The IT Team at IGSOSANA is responsible for all the behind the scenes fun stuff that makes the association run well. Our responsibilities include, the
development and maintenance of the association’s website, the email system, the event registration portal, the online payment portal, social media outreach
and designing print media for events and other programs. The team is also responsible for advising other committees in the use technology, enabling them to
be successful. To date, we have completed all the listed objectives and we continue to support the organization as needed.
Our team is however very small and stretched out. We need additional volunteers to join our dynamic and very important team. If you can
use MS Word or if you are managing your own Facebook page and Instagram page yourself, you can do the work that is required. If you are
a graphic artist, your talent is much needed. Along with your talent and willingness to help, a very crucial requirement is your availability to
get the work done. Weekly time commitment of 1-2 hours is required. Interested? Follow the steps below:

We invite you to be a part of this renewed sense of pride by supporting today’s IGS students
and their educational needs. We recently introduced a new giving platform (Global Giving) to
help address the growing financial needs of the school and the students, which remain a top
priority at IGSOSANA. As a Mountaineer, you have treasured memories from your time at IGS,
now you can help the next generation of IGS students share in these experiences by considering
a financial gift of any amount.
You can make your gift online today by using our secured web site: https://igsosana.org/give or

under their belts. It's a chance to learn hopefully to forge some meaningful connections. Donate to a scholarship.
One of the most effective ways to make an impact in the lives of
students is to donate to a scholarship. For so many people, educa-
tion is only possible through financial assistance, and every little
bit counts.
There are plenty of resources out there to help you find out how to
donate to a scholarship. It might help to start by identifying a cause
you're passionate about and finding a scholarship that supports
that cause.
Your school's office of financial aid services can either help you
organize a donation for a scholarship specific to the school or con-
nect you with external programs. You can also explore the online
resources provided by the College Board and the Department of
Education. These resources are typically geared to students looking
for financial aid, but they're a good way to learn about the different
organizations that provide scholarships. As with any donation,
it's imperative that you do your due diligence to make sure your
money is going to the right place.
Seek out volunteer opportunities or charitable initiatives through
your employer.
Your alma mater is a fantastic resource if you're looking for the
most impactful ways to give back, but there's no reason you need
to limit your giving to the confines of your school. Many employ-
ers—especially larger, more influential companies—strive to make
charity and volunteerism essential to their core values.
Food drives. Volunteer trips. Raffles. Fundraisers. These are just
a few of the ways companies try to give back, either as a whole
company or through smaller employee groups. Find a group or
club within your company that's working on a cause that matters
to you—or explore the proper channels for organizing your own.

morale and effectiveness towards their jobs.
Furthermore, I would provide infrastructural facilities throughout the state. I will provide facilities like good
roads, good transport system, free health care, stable power supply and good housing management. All
these would help to urbanize the state and attract more investors into the state which would then help to
provide job/employment opportunities to the youths and unemployed in the state. I would also ensure that
the materials used by construction workers to build the above listed infrastructures are good and quality
ones in order to ensure that the amenities last longer.
My next focus is Education. I know the present Governor is doing a commendable work in the educational
sector but if I were the governor, I would do more. Most of the government schools in the state lack good
classrooms, good chairs and enough teachers to mention but a few. I would provide all these and every
other thing needed to ensure the smooth process of teaching and learning in schools.
In addition, if I were the governor, I would encourage and support local manufacturers rather than spending money on importing products. I would
make sure that products like plastics, soaps and clothes are produced locally in the state. I would also venture into youths and women empower-
ing programs which would help to reduce idleness and joblessness in the state, A saying goes thus “An idle hand is the devil’s workshop.”
However, there are some things that the present governor is doing that I wouldn’t do if I were the governor, some of which are:
Recently, the IBEDC (the company responsible for providing power supply in the state) was closed down by the state government because the
state government claimed that the company owned it FOUR HUNDRED MILLION NAIRA tax. If I were the governor, I would not have closed down
the company because I would consider the businesses that depend on electricity to run. I would also consider that the whole state would be
thrown in darkness too.
In conclusion, the present governor is not responsible for paying the WAEC fees for students in the state. If I were the governor, I would have done
otherwise because most parents can’t afford to pay the WAEC fees of their children/wards.
I would not be able to do all these because I am not the governor of my state. I offer these as suggestions to the present governor.
Thank you

IF I WERE THE GOVERNOR
WINNING ESSAY FOR SS2 SUBMITTED BY:
OGBOI, FAVOR (14 YEARS OLD)
Who is A Governor? A Governor is an officially elected person to govern a region or a state. He is an elected executive
head of state. He is the person responsible for directing the policy and affairs of the state. Powers and functions of
Governor are to prevent, protect and direct the constitution and laws as incorporated in their oath of office. He is
responsible for implementing and enforcing laws of the state. He has the power to appoint some state officials. Governors
are faced with varied, complex and numerous legal issues, some relate to approving officials, making appointments for the state, and
representing the state at the federal level. My current governor has done and played some roles for the state for instance, giving free
education, construction of some social amenities, giving employment to the unemployed. However, there are still some issues which have
not been taken care of in the state for instance, infrastructure, provisions of health centers and facilities, low level of education.
If I were the Governor, what would be my policy and programs if elected? What would I do to improve the state? How do I
use a constructive system of government in leadership? How do I put an end to the problems facing the state?
My government would be an effective one, which would be a source of amazement for other states. My policy would be
based on the improvement and development of the state in all areas.
I will Therefore, the first step I would take is to consider the finances that is available to the state because finance is sine –
deliberately qua – non to governance. This calls for a management of large amount of money controlled by the government which is
enforce a absolutely necessary to govern a state. With state revenue and allocation, internal revenue and generation with taxation
just tax would be a source of what is going to provide solution to the problem facing the state, I would deliberately enforce a just
system. system of tax collector to collect tax from every citizen of the state and they [tax collector] must be just and efficient.
This leads me to provision of employment. I would provide a conducive environment for industries and factories which
have closed down to re – open. Apart from establishing, many more, I would encourage the private sector industrialists
to establish more industries which would provide employment for the unemployed. I would also give serious attention
to agriculture. I would make it attractive which won’t just bring jobs for the unemployed graduates but also provide food
in large quantities for the teeming population. I would urge the private industrialists to go into Oil palm planting and
processing.
Secondly, I would give solutions to frequent power outages. I would ensure that much investment is directed into the
power generation and supply, and also encourage private firms and establishment to also invest substantially in this.
Those who are owing the electricity body such as the Government, private sector, organized and unorganized firms as
well as members of public must settle their debt as a matter of urgency.
On security, I would ensure that there is improvement on security. Billions of naira and thousands of lives had been lost
due to insecurity. I would empower the state security agencies in enforcing laws as they work hard to protect the lives
of the citizens of the state, detect criminals and protect properties. I would ensure that CCTV is available in all areas and
there would be street light in all areas to ensure good security.
Thirdly, I would improve the standard of Education, because education is the best legacy one can give to a child. Our
wards are the leaders of tomorrow, so I would make available to them all they need to improve their education, I would
ensure that teachers in schools teach their students to their best capabilities.
Also, I would enforce laws that no public fund is wasted because fund is very important in governance. I would give solution to the
economic problems facing the state and inflation would be stopped. For instance, whatever is generated from the mineral resources must
be used appropriately to benefit the state, rich and poor. I would make sure that there is freedom in the state and every citizen of the
State [Oyo State] complies with the laid down rules and regulations.
This is how I would contribute to the improvement of the state. However, I would not be able to do all this because I am not the Governor.
First, I want to appreciate the effort made by the Governor in governing the State. I would also want to give an advice to the Governor of
Oyo State. The Governor should make his government to improve the standard of the state by enforcing laws and making the citizens to
comply with the laws. The Governor should invest massively in the power sector because most people whose lives depend on electricity
do not have access to it. Some of the rural areas which ought to have been electrified are not yet electrified. The Governor should give
remedies to the epileptic nature of the electricity supply in the state. Secondly, the government should establish new industries which
would make the unemployed to be gainfully employed, because unemployment is the most damaging problem of the state which needs
urgent attention. The popular saying, “devil finds a job for an idle hand,” holds true in all places and at all times. The consequences of
unemployment manifests visibly in every society. Most robbery and drug trafficking cases are traceable to unemployment for there is
nothing a person can’t do to keep the soul and the body together.
Thirdly, the government should improve the security of the state and the governor should ensure that the security agencies of the state
work harder to protect the state. Also, he should find solution to the economic problems and he should govern the state in the way which
will foster improvement and development in the state and make the state a better place for its citizens.
n preparing the next generation for effective leadership, youths must be encouraged to get involved in governance. They should be able
to call the attention of the public and come together to make decisions concerning the state.

IF I WERE THE GOVERNOR
WINNING ESSAY FOR SS1 SCIENCE SUBMITTED BY:
ABIODUN, PRECIOUS E (13 YEARS OLD)
Before I present my plans on what I would do if I were the governor, I need to define who a governor is and what is
expected of him. A governor is a person appointed either by force or elections by the state to oversee its welfare for a
period of time. A governor is also defined as a person appointed to oversee a section of the nation usually by a monarch
or president. A governor is expected to serve under a monarch or president but nowadays most of them have forgotten
their position. It is therefore my pleasure and delight to relay my plans if I were voted into power as the governor.
I will like to choose my home state, Osun - The land of Virtue. The welfare of my people is my priority even before the money or revenue
of the state. I am ready to give it all it takes for my people to flourish and grow, to become a pace setter for other states and even
countries. I will try my utmost best to improve the standard of living of my people.
My plans for the state are in two folds, the people and the land. If each of these could be raised to their highest potentials,
the sky is our limit. If no one will help you, you must help yourself. Osun state has large deposits of gold and other
minerals resources. It also has a rich cultural heritage and hardworking people. Who should prosper if not us?
The welfare of the people is my utmost priority. The first thing I will do is make sure there is stable electricity. Most of the The
businesses in the state fail because the cost of providing their own power supply is greater than generated revenue. If welfare of
you are assured that you will have needed power to perform whatever duties your company needs, your problem is half my people
solved. Increased availability of electricity will also attract more industries.
I will complete the work on the Asejire Dam which has been abandoned for decades. Once Osun State is able to generate
its own power, more businesses will move into the state. This will lead to the creation of jobs for our unemployed youths.
Those businesses require constant power supply will attract more businesses.
My people, lack of education is a major problem affecting most of our people. I agree with Nelson Mandela saying that, will be my
“Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world.” If I were the governor, I would therefore, utmost
upgrade and face-lift the educational sector by the provision of free education at all levels. This will include the provision
of educational materials such as textbooks, notebooks, school bags, sandal and even uniforms free of charge for the
students.
My beloved people, lack of good roads is another problem affecting us all. We will work together with you to identify and priority.
reconstruct all faulty roads networks so that we can lessen the stress of road travels and the risk of accidents. We will
repair our rail systems which have gone bad and will expand the system so that intra and inter-state travel by rail will be
possible. This would lessen activities on the road and provide quicker and more effective not to mention a cleaner system
of transportation. It would also be cheaper compared to the fuel vehicles use.
Osun state is blessed with many resources, particularly agriculture. The road connecting rural to urban areas are so
terrible that the only way to commute is by motorcycles. Once the rainy season begins, commute is halted and whatever
produce has been labored upon and harvested would to waste. We are willing and ready to make sure this never happens again. Come
rain, come shine once the road system is fixed, the commute and transportation of goods will go on without any problem. The people of
Osun State will get products at cheaper rate since the supply will be higher, the farmers would get to sell their products and go home
smiling while Osun State revenue continues to rise.
Many towns and villages have no access to clean water. To be healthy, the people need clean water. I would work with my ministries in
charge of public services to make sure there is sustainable access to clean water.
As we all know, health is wealth, I will work to raise Osun State to be in the top rank of cleanest states in Nigeria. There will be rules
and regulations (if anyone is found on the street dumping refuse, such a person will be sentenced to 3 weeks imprisonment or pay
N15,000.00 as fine.) If I were the governor of Osun State, I will encourage the people of the state to get individual house refuse bin, and
I will employ the services of refuse collectors to go round the state collecting the refuse bins, free of charge.
Health sector, the abandoned hospitals will be renovated, new gadgets, drugs, and other instrument will be given to various hospitals.
Orphanages will be better equipped to shelter the children in there. Beggars will be discouraged from roaming about the streets.
On security, we should be able to secure our state. According to my research I found out that Osun State is the third most peaceful
state in Nigeria. We are to be at the peak and so the OSS will be given 3 months orientation while the police officers, SSS, DSS will be
sent out to patrol the state to ensure is the state is safe from outside harassment and danger.
To make food distribution easy is to secure the state good road are essential outrunk B and C road will be re constructed so
transportation and accident will be reduced also our rail system which have gone bad will be renovated to a top notch level and the
system will be expanded so that travelling by rail will be a lot more easier which will make accidents on road lessen.
Since I am not the governor, I will like to submit all this to the present governor of my home State Osun. Thank You.

IGSOSANA
A GREAT FORCE TO RECKON WITH
By Mrs. Babalola Oluronke Folasade
IGSOSANA has always been a great force to reckon with
in the history of Ibadan Grammar School. The body has
played unrivaled, unmatched roles in the life of IGS. It has
been involved in a lot of laudable projects and activities
that have led to the improvement of the students, the
teachers and the School in general. It can safely be said
that IGS might not be at its present heights if not for the
development strides of Igsosana. The tenacity and the
untiring efforts put into their commitment into achieving
a better IGS is very exemplary and commedable.
Despite the fact that they don't have children in the
school, igsosana members still go out of their ways to
ensure that IGS becomes the best school. This is highly
inspiring. I want to use this medium to express my
experience during the period of anchoring the recently
conducted Essay Writing Competition. The competition
was an opportunity to release the Giants in our students
in Essay Writing. The competition exposed our students
to tremendous creative thinking, the competition also
stretched the brilliance of our students to its elastic best!
These fine achievements were recorded because our
students consulted among themselves, pored themselves
into their books to further enhance their writing prowess.
It's an obvious fact that those who participated in the
competition are now far ahead of their counterparts.
Some students who initially showed interest in the
competition because of the gifts attached ran away
because of the high level of reasoning, intelligence and
preparedness requirements of the exercise.!!! Surely, not an
exercise for the dullard!!!
Those that remained might not have been the best
yet,but they are far from where they are coming from
and they showed high level of promise and future great
performance.
I am sure that with this exercise, things will not remain
same again!! It can only get better!!.
High level Team spirit was exhibited by the students
throughout the exercise. Students related together freely
and were able to see themselves as a group( of achievers.)
I want to seize this opportunity to appreciate the
organizers of the competition for bringing out the best in
our students. I also appreciate the time and resources put
into the planning and execution to make it a success.
So proud to be part of the team at this given time.
Kudos also to all my team mates who worked tirelessly
to make the exercise a success in the person of
Mrs Oladunni,Mr Akinpelu and Mr Ayandele. Their
commitment to the exercise was a great encouragement.
It was an awesome experience working on this project.
God bless you all.
Mrs. Babalola is presently the Vice Principal Academics in
our great citadel of learning.

We are very pleased that IGOSOSANA has awarded scholarship to
first cohort of Seke Somolu Scholars:
Ajibola John OPASINA
Chemical Engineering / Obafemi Awolowo University
Adesewa Grace AJIGAOLA
Computer Science Education / Tai Solarin University of Education
Late Engineer Foluseke Somolu is one of Ibadan Grammar School’s
distinguished old students and one of Nigeria’s finest electrical Engineers.
Upon completion of the Higher School Class (HSC) in 1966, he taught Physics
and Mathematics at IGS briefly prior to his admission into the University
of Lagos for further studies in Electrical Engineering. He was the National
President of IGSOSA from 2007 to 2010. He was Vice Chairman and later
Chairman of the IGSOSA Lagos Branch. Seke Somolu was a very dedicated and
proud Mountaineer. He left an indelible mark on the school and the IGSOSA
community with unprecedented support of IGS projects and programs. He
was instrumental to the completion of the Emmanuel Alayande Hall. As the
Chairman of the Fundraising Committee, he personally raised tens of millions
of naira for the School.
He was a custodian of Ibadan Grammar School history and records and he
published many books on the school, the last of which is a reference point
titled “The Ibadan Grammar School of our Time” . Engr. Seke Somolu was a
very good friend of IGSOSANA, attending many of our conventions, playing
active roles and supporting us financially.
He was described by one of his colleagues as an unusually patriotic Nigerian
who sacrificed his comfort for upliftment of people in need, while promoting
excellence in others regardless of tribal or political inclination. He was a
brilliant, hardworking and meticulous professional electrical engineer, who
mentored several engineers.
We are delighted to name this scholarship after one of our finest old students
for his love, kindness, generosity, compassion and sacrifice and
his innumerable contributions and particularly, his passion
for Ibadan Grammar School and our Alumni Association.
