Etiquette
BY DEBBY MAYNE
Have you ever received email that left you wondering about the person who sent
it? Or worse, have you ever sent an email that you later regretted? Being on the
receiving end of a bad email can leave you shaking your head and trying to
figure out what on earth the other person was thinking. Being the one who sent

“reply all” is if you are sure everyone needs the information
you are sending.
06 FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH EMAIL TOOLS
Know the tools and types of email. This includes
“to,” “cc,” “bcc,” and subject lines. The main recipient
should be in the “to” field. When you need to copy someone,
you would normally add that person to the “cc” or carbon
copy field. If someone needs to be copied without the others
on the list receiving his or her email, use “bcc” or blind car-
bon copy. Only copy people who need to know the informa-
tion you are sending.
Never forward chain emails. These can become cumbersome
and clog people’s email boxes to the point of annoyance. You
don’t want to become the person who forwards messages that
may or may not be true.
You should always fill in the subject line for a business related
email, and it is preferred in personal email. Keep the subject
line as short as possible and only have one topic per mailing.
07KEEP IT BRIEF
Most people prefer brief emails rather than long,
wordy messages. If possible, state your point in a cou-
ple of sentences. For a longer message start with an
introductory paragraph letting people know the basics. If you
have more than one topic, split your message into more than
one mailing, with one topic per email.
08WATCH YOUR TONE
Maintain a positive tone in your email communi-
cations. Remember that snarky remarks may come
across as mean-spirited rather than funny. Save the
sarcastic humor for voice communications so others can hear
the tone of your voice. This also includes anger. You should
always avoid sending angry emails, or you may risk offending
someone you work with or care about.
09USE PRIORITY FLAGS WITH DISCRETION
If you have a high priority flag, only use it when
necessary. Using it too much will eventually have the
opposite effect you want and send your emails to the
bottom of the priority list for the recipients.

IGSOSANA PROJECTS SUPPOWe Need Your RT
By Dr. Yinka Okuwoga, President, IGSOSANA
OFellow Mountaineers,
ur Alma mater – Ibadan Grammar School, is in dire need of our support in
the area of academics, infrastructure and security. In order to prepare the
current generation of mountaineers for the challenges of the twenty-first
century, IGSOSANA is focusing on academic support and in particular:
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.
We hope to achieve this through a Five-Year Rolling Plan culminating in
IGS Centre of Excellence in Science Education by 2023.
In furtherance of this objective, IGSOSANA in conjunction with other Mountaineers
handed a N50 million (approx. $120,000:00) state-of-the-art Physics Laboratories
to the School on March 31, 2016 and N6 million worth of equipment for the New
Physics Lab in October 19, 2016. With the support of many mountaineers at home
and in diaspora, we successfully staged the first STEM Event Day at IGS in June 2017,
facilitated by STEM Wonders Team from Maryland USA.
As presented and ratified by the 10th IGSOSANA Annual Convention in Houston
2017, we are rolling out a number of key projects estimated at N5 million – installation
of Data Projectors at five locations (New Physics Laboratory, ICT Center, e-library
and The Emmanuel Alayande Hall), STEM Event, Development of a School Website
and campus-wide Internet connectivity to open up the school community to the rest
of the developed world and facilitate long distance and e-learning.
Most of the projects and initiatives for 2018 have already been delivered. To the glory
of God, IGSOSANA launched two of its projects during the 105th Founder’s Day
Celebration in March, 2018.
A. Multimedia and Audio-visual equipment (N1.5 Million) – 5 Locations
Data Projectors, microphones, etc., installed in the following five locations:
1. New Physics Laboratory – 2 Installations Labs 1 & 2.
2. Dr. Mike Adenuga ICT Center,
3. e-library and
4. The Emmanuel Alayande Hall (mobile system on tripod wheel stand)
B. Official IGS Website (N1 million) www.ibadangrammarschool.org
During the 105th Founder’s Day celebration in Ibadan, the National President
Archdeacon Muyiwa Oyewole led a prayer session in commissioning the 2 projects.
He applauded the efforts of IGSOSANA as the pacesetter branch for which others
should emulate. He pledged N250K in support of each of the two projects, making a
total of N500K.
IGSOSANA in partnership with NEC, thank you for your support and invite all
mountaineers and friends to join us in these and other laudable projects and initiatives
for the upliftment of Ibadan Grammar School by making your contributions at our
website www.igsosana.org.
