Ages 6-12 Instructor: Young Rembrandts It’s springtime and we have new and exciting classes ready to go! If you think your student has a flare for architecture, they will love our City Skyline lesson. Learning to develop and apply patterns is the focus as our artists venture into the wild and create an intricate Zebra. Later, our students will learn about cool and warm colors with the Patterned Flowers lesson. They also explore realism with the Tower Bridge and our art history lesson focusing on Gustav Klimt. Of course, it wouldn’t be spring without a drawing of a Fawn and Baby Bunnies. Lastly, don’t miss out on a brand-new drawing of a beautiful Indian Bride. This camp is perfect for you and a friend to team up and explore stop-motion animation (drawing) and/or Claymation. Come with an idea or two of a short story you would like to make a movie of. We will provide the materials for the background, drawing materials, and the technology to shoot your first film! You are welcome to bring other materials (Legos and action figures) This camp has a limited number of spaces available so don’t wait! We will brainstorm ideas together, then using the supplies given they will build/create something for the task. This may include activities like making a marble maze, popsicle stick catapults, paper chain challenge, or pool noodle boats. Since this will be done virtually, campers will pick up a bag of supplies the week before camp. Students will also learn how to be safe and responsible when home alone, including what to do if somebody comes to the door and the importance of not giving out personal information. It’s never too late to begin the journey to better health. We are here to help you achieve your healthy lifestyle goals through education, motivation and support. Memberships and daily passes are available for individuals or families. The Waterford Fitness Studio offers group exercise classes to keep you moving toward your fitness goals. It’s conveniently located within the Covert Center across from Mott High School at 1150 Scott Lake Road. Your membership will begin with a health assessment and body composition analysis. You will receive a customized program to get you started, based on your needs, goals, and interests. Your program may include nutrition counseling, exercise machine orientation, ongoing motivation and support to keep you on track. For more information, contact Kathryn Kerin, Fitness & Lifestyle Coordinator, at 248-682-0593 Free to low-cost membership options The Waterford Pool & Fitness Centers is now offering older adults a way to increase their levels of physical activity while motivating them to remain active. We are partnered with multiple companies that work through your insurance company. We are currently partnered with Silver Sneakers, Renew Active, Silver and Fit and Peer Fit. These programs allow our guests to purchase a membership for FREE or at a low cost. These memberships allow access to the fitness center, our pools, and any adult fitness class. The Center includes resistance machines and free weights to target muscle groups, cardio equipment including treadmills, upright and recumbent bikes, and ellipticals. All users are expected to wipe down machines after use with the cleansing wipes provided. Indoor Track Our indoor track is 1/10 of a mile and is located near the Mott Pool and Fitness Centers. Average temperature of the instructional pool is 84-86 degrees. Depths range from 3ft to 4.5ft. The Center also includes an eight lane, 25 yard x 25 meter competitive pool for lap swimming. Average temperature is 78-82 degrees. Depths range from 4ft to 14ft. We have elevated seating for 400 spectators located on two sides of the competition pool. The classes typically increase skill difficulty and require greater endurance as a child progresses through the levels. To ENTER LTS3 Students should be able to swim approximately 20-25 yards doing the front crawl, roll over and float for 15 seconds, return to their front and swim to the starting point. In this course the front crawl is improved. The elementary backstroke and treading water are taught and emphasized and must be mastered to pass. 2 basic dives are taught. Endurance skills are begun at this level. Water safety will be emphasized. Waterford Writers Workshop – • Meets the third Saturday of each month 11am-2pm in the Conference Room. A forum where serious writers share their work and receive and provide constructive, supportive critiques of each member’s writing. We will also discuss the craft of fine writing, literary subjects pertaining to the group’s goals, submitting of work/being published in literary journals, and other topics members may want to explore. Each writer will email their work (6 pages of 12pt font, double-spaced prose or up to two poems) to other members at least one week prior to the scheduled meeting. Those attending the workshop will be prepared to discuss their own writing, as well as providing edits and suggestions on other member’s writing. The goal is to write, share, and develop polished prose and poetry and celebrate the art of the written word and literature in general. Participants must be age 16 or older. Waterford Genealogical Society Meetings The Waterford Genealogical Society meets the first Wednesday of the month 1-3pm in the library’s Community Room. Genealogy is the study of family ancestries and histories. The WGS is a group of like-minded people who love to dig out the facts behind family stories. Book Bucks Build your home library with “Waterford Library Book Bucks”! Children can stop by the children’s reference desk to show the librarian that they are checking out books, and they will receive a “book buck”. When you collect 4 book bucks you can “buy” a paperback book from the children’s department. We cannot replace lost book bucks. Sorry about that. Skyhawks Tiny-Hawk Baseball is the perfect introduction to America’s pastime for young players. Our progressional curriculum teaches the fundamentals of fielding, catching, throwing, hitting and base running in a fun, positive environment. The first week will feature a skills introduction followed by four weeks of fun tee ball league play. Parents will receive a weekly 10am or 11am game assignment for their child’s team after the first week. Weekly practices will be scheduled by a volunteer coach. Participants in Boys/Girls UNDER 12 may have away games in Independence Township on various days of the week (depending on registration numbers). Participants in Boys/Girls UNDER 14/16 will have away games in surrounding communities on various days of the week. All other age groups will have all home games on Sunday at the Civic Center Soccer fields. It is suggested that one session of Super Saturday be played before registering your child for UNDER 6 COED. Parents may sign a play-up waiver for their child to play up by one year. Children may not play down in any age group. Parent volunteer coaches are required for all age groups.
