MRCS SIBU BRANCH ANNUAL REPORT 2022 MRCS Sibu Branch @ 2022 All Rights Reserved The following Seven Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement was proclaimed at the 20th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent held in Vienna in 1965 and has been included in the Statutes of the Movement. FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF THE INTERNATIONAL RED CROSS AND RED CRESCENT MOVEMENT HUMANITY The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, born of a desire to bring assistance without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavours, in its international and national capacity, to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. Its purpose is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace amongst all peoples. IMPARTIALITY It makes no discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. It endeavours to relieve the suffering of individuals, being guided solely by their needs, and to give priority to the most urgent cases of distress. NEUTRALITY In order to continue to enjoy the confidence of all, the Movement may not take sides in hostilities or engage at any time in controversies of a political, racial, religious or ideological nature. INDEPENDENCE The Movement is independent. The National Societies, while auxiliaries in the humanitarian services of their governments and subject to the laws of their respective countries, must always maintain their autonomy so that they may be able at all times to act in accordance with the principles of the Movement. VOLUNTARY SERVICE It is a voluntary relief movement not prompted in any manner by desire for gain. UNITY There can be only one Red Cross or one Red Crescent Society in any one country. It must be open to all. It must carry on its humanitarian work throughout its territory. UNIVERSALITY The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, in which all Societies have equal status and share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other, is worldwide

MRCS SIBU BRANCH ANNUAL REPORT 202 MRCS Sibu Branch @ 2022 All Rights Reserved Another year had passed. We had bid farewell to the year 2022 and ushered in the New Year 2023. The year 2022 had been a very eventful year for the MRCS Sibu Branch. We had successfully organized World Blood Donors Day 2022, World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2022 and MRCS Sibu Branch Annual Gathering cum Awards Presentation 2022. Through all events, we had shared valuable memories with our guests and honoured our Society’s leaders for their contribution. This year, MRCS Sibu Branch still corporate with the Blood Bank Sibu Hospital to hold Blood Replenishment / Recruitment Campaign at Blood Donation Centre MRCS Sibu Branch. We successfully organized 18 Blood Replenishment Campaign at MRCS Sibu Branch HQs and 1 Blood Replenishment Campaign at Medan Hotel (Jalan Wong King Huo. Total Pints collected are 1047. I am indeed honoured and grateful to all the voluntary blood donors, the NGOs, religious bodies, Government Departments, private sector, schools and many other well-wishers for the unstinted support, ever ready response and come forward whole heartedly in the blood donation activities when calls have been made upon you. Please accept for my sincerest thanks for your altruism. MRCS Sibu Branch still cooperated with Sibu Hospital and Sibu Division Health Department for COVID-19 Vaccination Programme. A total of 6 volunteers and staffs involved in this programme. Total service hours is 45 hours. For welfare aid, MRCS Sibu Branch had distributed 3785 bottles (1L) and 4010 bottles (100ML) SARAYA Hand Sanitizer to School, NGOs, Government Department, Religious Group, Vaccine Centre, First Aid Course Participants, Blood Donors who donated blood at MRCS Sibu Branch, Sibu Centre Market and Malay Hawker at Sibu District. Besides that, MRCS Sibu Branch also distributed 1800 beg Maggie Goody Bag to B40, OKU and single parents. In year 2022, due to the COVID-19 situation, MRCS Sibu Branch still cancel all fundraising activities. However, I still have to thank to generous public in Sibu for their kind support to society all this whist while. For training side, MRCS Sibu Branch have achieved highest target for training people in First Aid and CPR. I congratulate all of you for your hard work, and hope that the committee will further explore ways to enhance the skills and knowledge of all our members. They have worked so hard and daring on the front-line, at the risk to their own healthier and safety. This group of volunteers deserve our deep gratitude and greatest respect for their selflessly devotion and bringing a good name for MRCS Sibu Branch. We had given the Carnation flower to appreciate the mother who come donated her blood. Total pints collected – 52 pints Junior Coloring Contest period – 25th Aprill, 2022 till 29th April, 2022. A total of 891 students from 35 primary school participated in this contest. All Participants will receive an ECertificate. Quiz Competition hold on 30th Aprill, 2022. A total of 709 members participated in this contest. All participant needs to complete 100 questions within 1 hours. all questions are related to the Red Cross and Red Crescent. All Participants will receive an ECertificate. Poster Competition period – 18th April, 2022 till 29th Aprill, 2022. A total of 65 members from 11 schools participated in this contest. All Participants will receive an ECertificate. World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day Celebration cum cake Cutting Ceremony is the highlight for this event and hold on 08/05/2022. In this ceremony, MRCS Sibu Branch had recognized 21 volunteers and staffs who done distinguished service for COVID-19 Vaccination Programme at Hospital Sibu from May till December 2021. In view of the present remarkable success and achievements, Chinese donors in Sibu are praised for their mission in saving lives through blood donation. A few decades ago, the Chinese community closed their hearts to others by refusing to give away any blood. Today, they rank on top among all other blood donors in Sibu. The Malaysian Red Crescent Society, Sibu Branch had therefore brought a tremendous change gradually on the people’s mentality. The one who saves lives willingly should be remembered forever. Millions of people around the world owe their lives to many individuals they will never meet – people who donated the blood generously to help others. In actual fact, our regular blood donors are the safest blood donors and they are also the foundation of sustainable of local hospital supplies that are sufficient to meet the needs of all patients requiring blood transfusion. A great number of the new blood donors were the first-time donors. However, it was learnt that they did not damper their spirit for participation nor deter them from doing their bit for charity’s sake. Almost all of them said after the initial punch to numb their veins, they felt the remaining part of the bleeding quite all right. Blood Donors’ Day was celebrated on the focus on the lifesaving gift of voluntary unpaid blood donors who have donated blood for altruistic reasons. We, therefore, lauded voluntary blood donors for always being caring. Once again, MRCS Sibu Branch wished to record its gratitude and appreciation to the generous voluntary blood donors for donating their blood at regular intervals. In 2021, Sibu Branch collected 9403 pints of blood for the Sibu General Hospital. PAGE 18

The only activity of MRCS Sibu Branch during the Pandemic COVID-19 is to corporate with the Blood Bank Sibu Hospital to hold Blood Replenishment / Recruitment Campaign at Blood Donation Centre MRCS Sibu Branch. We had done several activities in conjunction with World Blood Donor Day 2022. The theme for this year is Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives or 献 血是一种团结行为。加入我们，拯救生命 or Menderma Darah Memupuk Perpaduan. Bersama Selamatkan Nyawa. According to the World Health Organization, the specific objectives of this year’s campaign are to: • thank blood donors in the world and create wider public awareness of the need for regular, unpaid blood donation; • highlight the need for committed, year-round blood donation, to maintain adequate supplies and achieve universal and timely access to safe blood transfusion; • recognize and promote the values of voluntary unpaid blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion; • raise awareness of the need for increased investment from governments to build a sustainable and resilient national blood system and increase collection from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors. Below are the activities organized by MRCS Sibu Branch: 1. BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN a. 11/06/2022, MRCS Sibu Branch, Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah Sibu, Lion Clubs International District 308-A2 Region 2 & Region 3 had successfully organized Blood Donation Campaign at Blood Donation Centre, MRCS Sibu Branch. We successfully collected a total of 67 pints. b. 16/07/2022, MRCS Sibu Branch, Sibu Automobile Repairers Association and Sibu Hospital to co-organize Blood Donation Campaign at Blood Donation Centre MRCS Sibu Branch. We had successfully collected a total of 148 pints. 2. ORGAN DONATION RECRUITMENT DRIVE 16/07/2022, MRCS Sibu Branch will cooperate with Organ Donation Team from Sibu Hospital to organize Organ Donation Recruitment Drive at Dewan Wong Soon Kai, MRCS Sibu Branch starting from 8.00a.m. till 12.00noon. The ceremony for Organ Donation Recruitment Drive officiated by YB Joseph Chieng Jin Ek as the Guest of Honor at 9am. Total register is 23 persons. 3. BLOOD DONORS’ RECOGNITION CEREMONY 2022 Blood Donors’ Recognition Ceremony 2022 - the highlights of the event. In this ceremony, we had recognized blood donors who have been regularly donating blood especially during Pandemic COVID-19. Most of the Cadet Units have two to five Cadet Officers/Teachers-in-Charge looking after their own Youth Units. The membership strength as at 2022 was 2039 members. We hope that in the year 2022 more students will be joining in the Red Crescent. However, every effort is encouraged to join at least one uniformed group. Youth Leaders’ Committee (YLC) The committee members which derived from cadet leaders of various Secondary Schools in Sibu held their monthly meeting on a Sunday morning at our premises. It acts as a liaison between the schools and our Branch Committee. In the year under review, the YLC at their initiative and enthusiasm had implemented to diversify and comprehensive programme of activities with the aim to motivate and develop our youth members for their excellent services.
