Presidents Day-Phil Underwood Trophy

11th September 16’

With many of our juniors at other events on the day, it was left to Spencer Hughes & Ed Keech to fight it out for the Trophy. Spencer went
out early in the morning and shot 34pts and then had to disqualify himself for playing from the wrong tees, this left Ed with the task of just
getting round to win almost by default!! A round of 36pts did the trick despite his playing partner suggesting that he should have been dis-

Keech Cup

6th November 16’

The Keech Cup was resurrected this year having not being played for since 20??, the trophy was originally a match between the committee
and the juniors for bragging rights only, this time around we managed to drag many of the parents (some kicking & screaming!!) to help
contest the trophy.

The format was fourball betterball, with all wedges banned!! This was a ruling that originally only applied to the juniors but the adults took
it easy on the juniors this time by playing to the same rules.
On a wet, windy and generally sub zero day only four of the original six fourballs actually finished the full 18 with the adults running out
very close winners and ‘still’ holders of the trophy :)

NGL Junior League Team/s 2017

In previous years Kettering GC have entered only one team into the Northants Junior League, teams are made up of only four players

meaning some very talented juniors miss out on representing the club.
We are proposing entering two teams A & B, players can represent only one of these teams in the same season.
To enable us to run two teams we will need parents willing to help/run one of the teams, if you are interested in providing help please let
Darrin know, thank you.

The junior section would like to thank many people/companies for their generous donations and help during the last three sea-

County Girls v Bedfordshire
@ The Bedford GC

9th October 16’

The Northamptonshire Girls team played a friendly match at The Bedford GC, Kettering girls Gracie Murray and Chelsey Sharp used their well
tested understanding of each others game to win their match comfortably 4&3.
The third Kettering youngster Ruby Smith partnered up with Rushdens Hannah Talbot, the new pairing proving successful running out 2&1
victors.
The Northamptonshire girls completed a 3-1 victory over their hosts.

County Girls v Ladies Past Captains

@ Rushden GC

11th September 16’
County Ladies Past Captains held their annual match verses the County girls squad at Rushden this year, the Kettering pair; Ruby Smith and
Chelsey Sharp took part gaining invaluable experience in the process.

Shires Tour @ Mkt. Harborough GC - 25th September 16’

A blustery and at times wet day greeted the Shires tour at another new golf course for the tour in Market Harborough.
The event was the last qualifier for the order of merit prior to the Grand Final at The Leicestershire and it proved to be quite a contest.
With Theo Brown unable to attend the event it was left to Jordan Darnell to represent the club in Gold division, putting woes contributing to
a round of 32pts for our junior captain.

Silver division is probably the most keenly contested division with several of our juniors battling it out on the day, Ashleigh Critchley was
leading the OOM going into the round and managed to hold off her main competitors with a very good 37pts to claim the top spot in the
Order of Merit.
Josep Hyde overcame a poor mid section to his round finishing with 35pts and the nearest the pin prize, Ed Keech didn’t find the greens to
his liking and despite putting together a good score on the front 9 slipped away on the back 9 to post a disappointing score however he did
claim the 'Longball' prize by some margin.
Sam Underwood led the way for the Kettering juniors in Bronze division scoring a very good 36 points, whilst Gracie Murray didn't find her
top game on this occasion mustering 28 points.

Six of our juniors represented the club in Copper division, solid scores for James Attwood, Ben Atherton, Finn Smith, Chelsey Sharp, William
Wilkins and Ruby Smith were the order of the day on this occasion.
Lewis Critchley played really well at times scoring 31 points and finishing just outside the top three.

Shires @ Woburn Sands & Aspley Guise - 11th September 16’

Our juniors had a relatively quiet day at Woburn Sands & Aspley Guise GC, but some good performances garnered a few top positions.
Jordan Darnell scored 33 points in Gold division, Ashleigh Critchley finished 2nd on 39pts, Joe Hyde was 4th on 36pts & Jake Sheridan won
nearest the pin, all in Silver division.
In Bronze Division we had Sam Underwood finishing 2nd on 37pts and Gracie Murray 5th on 34pts.
William Wilkins 22 pts, Ben Atherton 19 pts and James Attwood 16 pts all had decent rounds in Copper division.
Last, but not least, Lewis Critchley shot a brilliant 47pts over 9 holes in Diamond Division to take 2nd spot just one point behind the winner,

Sonny Lennon also had a great round, shooting 36 points.

Shires Grand Final @ The Leicestershire - 23rd October 16’

Showers greeted the players on Grand Final Day played on a course in fantastic condition, The Leicestershire is an unusual
course in the fact that there are no par fives, a fact that obviously suited 2017 junior captain Theo Brown. Theo put togeth-

er an excellent round of golf scoring 37 pts to win Gold division, Jordan Darnell played fairly well but couldn't find a putt in
scoring 32 pts.
Theo Brown
Our silver division representatives all had day to forget on the course with our Bronze division player
fairing only slightly better with Gracie Murray 33 pts and Sam Underwood 32 pts breaking the 30 points barrier.

Ben Atherton, James Attwood and William Wilkins all had good rounds in Copper division but didn't quite make it into
the top positions.

Lewis Critchley It was left upto Lewis Critchley to round off a mixed day with a top performance in Diamond division amassing 44 pts
to take third spot, Sonny Lennon finished in the top 10 with a creditable 28 pts.

Shires Tour Order of Merit

Congratulations to Ashleigh Critchley and James Attwood who played a con-
sistantly high level of golf throughout the Shires season with win their re-

spective Divisional Order of Merits.
Ashleigh younger brother Lewis finished second in his division just behind
James.

Northants County Order of Merit

Ed Keech and Ashleigh Critchley had a good year playing in many junior
opens, Ed finishing 3rd gross and 5th nett in the county Boys Order of Merit
with Ashleigh also taking 3rd spot gross and 4th nett in the Girls Order of
Merit.

KGC - Junior Medal Final

15th October 2016

The junior medal final final was a keenly contested event this year with five players teeing it off on the day.
Sonny Lennon
Chelsey Sharp, Ashleigh Critchley, Ed Keech and the Brown brothers Luca & Theo, all believed they had a
chance of winning following good years of golfing progress.

The medal eventually found its way into the hands of Ashleigh Critchley who shot a fantastic nett 66, just pip-
ping Ed Keech with a respectable 69 and Theo Brown on a close 70.

NGL Girls Generation Cup

16th October 2016

The NGL Girls Generation Cup is an annual competition were the girls play nine holes at
Kingsthorpe with a family member. This year Kettering had all four of our girl county play-

ers involved. Ruby Smith and grandad Tony Melton were unlucky to finish 13th, Chelsey
Sharp and grandad Richard managed top 10 in 9th place, Gracie Murray and dad Nick a
very good 6th and Ashleigh Critchley with dad Jon finished second on countback.
