INTRODUCTIONThis assignment is prepared for the course TSLB3493 Songs and Poems forthe Primary ESL Classroom, which focuses on the use of musical and poeticelements to enhance English language learning among young learners. Songs andpoems play an important role in primary ESL education as they promote languageacquisition through rhythm, repetition, and creative expression. These literary andmusical texts also support pupils’ engagement, motivation, and emotionaldevelopment by providing meaningful and enjoyable learning experiences. Task 2 of this course requires student teachers to design a complete lessonplan that incorporates a song or poem suitable for primary ESL learners. Inthisassignment, a poem-based lesson was developed for Year 4 pupils, aligned withtheKSSR Semakan 2017 curriculum and the Year 4 textbook module “Helping Out.” Theselected poem, “Helping Hands,” is used to support the development of pupils’ reading and speaking skills while fostering positive moral values such as kindness, cooperation, and responsibility.In addition, this task emphasises the integration of digital teaching aids (BBM)to promote interactive and meaningful learning. Digital tools such as Canva, Quizizz, and Padlet are incorporated to enhance pupils’ participation, activate prior knowledge, and support creative expression during the poem lesson. Through this assignment, student teachers demonstrate their ability to plan, implement, and justify the useofsongs or poems in ESL classrooms using current pedagogical and technologicalapproaches.

MANUAL OF USE FOR DIGITAL TEACHING AIDS (BBM)Lesson: Poem - “Helping Hands” (Year 4, Module 7: Helping Out)1. CANVA PRESENTATION (BBM 1)Purpose of Use:To present the poem, teach vocabulary, and guide pupils through reading, recitation and reflection using an interactive slide based approach. How to Use Canva in the LessonStep 1: Conduct teaching steps using the slides.  Introduce the lesson and topic.  Play short video clip about helping.  Display poem and read aloud line by line.  Review vocabulary (helps, share, recylce, care, clean, kind)  Show instructions for group recitation.  Guide reflection using sentences starters. 2. QUIZIZZ (BBM 2)Purpose of Use:To activate prior knowledge and reinforce vocabulary related to “helping others” before reading the poem. How to Use Quizizz in the Lesson Teacher open the quiz titled “Good Helper or Not?” in the classroom.  Teacher read each question aloud if need.  Let pupils choose answers at their own pace.  Discuss the answer briefly after each question.  Teacher give positive feedback to encourage pupils.


3. PADLET (BBM 3)Purpose of Use:To help pupils brainstorm ideas about helping at home, at school, and inthecommunity before reciting the poem. How to Use Padlet in the Lesson Teacher open the Padlet titled “My Helping Words”.  Teacher share screen or project in the Padlet for class viewing.  There are 3 columns, at home, at school and for our world. Pupils will addsimple sentences to each column.  Pupils click ‘+’ under any column.
