The FSZS program is based on a risk-assessment methodology which compares all school zones in Queensland to determine which school zones would benefit the most from the technology. School zones with a significant crash history, a high level of vehicle and pedestrian traffic, higher speed limits or visibility problems are prioritised. This final tranche of 100 school zones across the state will complete the Labor Government’s election commitment to deliver FSZS at 300 school zones across the state. The FSZS program for 2023-24 is funded by the Camera Detected Offence Program (CDOP). Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey said the Flashing School Zone Sign program has been incredibly successful at making road infrastructure around Queensland schools safer. Ms Farquhar (right) is a businesswoman in Toowoomba who operates several businesses. During her speech, she said she employs 50 local people. She was officially sworn in last Wednesday by CEO Brian Pidgeon. She fills the vacancy created following the retirement of Mayor Paul Antonio and elevation of Cr Geoff McDonald to Mayor. It took five rounds of voting for the ten Councillors to agree on who would be joining them as a colleague. Councillors chose to have who they voted for, not become public knowledge. Mayor McDonald congratulated Mrs Farquhar on her appointment. “Our new colleague will attend her first official Council meeting at Tuesday’s (September 19) September Ordinary Meeting of Council,” Mayor McDonald said. “I’m pleased we have settled the composition of the Council team that will serve our residents until the next quadrennial local government election, which is set for March 16, 2024. “There is a lot of work to focus on in the final months of this term of the Council and my colleagues and I are determined to do and be our absolute best for the rest of the year on behalf of the community.” Mayor McDonald said Councillors acknowledge the effort made by all 23 people who nominated for the vacant Councillor position. “It is a big step for nominees to formally complete the application process and outline their vision and individual attributes that they consider will add to our decision making. “I thank all the nominees for taking the time to apply and outlining how passionate they are about serving on Council. “We all look forward to the contribution that Edwina will bring to her position.” Toowoomba Regional Council followed the requirements under the Local Government Act 2009 to fill the vacant Councillor position for the remainder of the term.

They spent time exploring the rainforest habitat and discussed how a rainforest functions and investigated the idea of sustainability and what that might look like in a rainforest environment. Rainforests in Australia support a significant part of our biodiversity and many of these are in the plant family. The threat of a thunderstorm did not dampen the enthusiasm of the Year 5 students and a great day was had by all. Cambooya State School WYREEMA STATE SCHOOL COLOUR FUN RUN On Friday 8th of September, our school held their annual School Colour Fun Run. The event included a variety of obstacles including slime pits, mini trampoline jumps, tight rope walking, climbing frames, hit the target and run the gauntlet. This year we were very lucky to have our local fire brigade assist with colour fun run. A massive thank you to Bridget and Garry who assisted with keeping the runners saturated for the event. Hodgsonvale Community Sports Club Our first Friday night function will be held on Friday the 6th of October commencing at 6pm with a bar and meal available.
