MyKingstonKids has been throwing the best festivals Kingston has
ever seen (and for free no less!) for about five years now. It started
in 2017 at the Lace Mill, with an Alice in Wonderland theme – that
beautiful Tea Party set the standard for the rest of time here in Ulster
County. Lifelong memories were created for the kids, parents, volun-
teers and everyone else involved that day. It’s been the same at every
festival they have thrown, since. Later in 2017, they threw a Halloween
festival at Seed Song Farm – the hayride went all night and then some,
it seemed, as everyone wanted a ride through the haunted fields!
The next year highlighted a haunted house scary enough for grown-
ups, but mellow enough to not scare the kids too much (a tough
balance, but the talented people behind Frank Waters and the MyKK
team knows kids and shows, and they don’t miss!). In 2019, after mov-
ing to the YMCA on Broadway, they threw a Glow in the Dark Dance
Party that people still talk about.
After taking a break in 2020, they were back in 2021 with the festival
highlight being a show by Hudson Valley Ghostbusters, who came out
and performed for the kids. Well… this year’s show is going to take
favorite parts from the past and incorporate them all into one big fes-
tival, and the theme? Monster’s Ball! It’s an all-day event, from 2-8pm
on Saturday October 29 (raindate Sunday the 30th), starting with a pa-
rade from Kingston Plaza, starting at lining up near Hannaford. If you’d
like to participate, please go to MyKingstonkids.com.
The day will include singers, costumes, music, dancing, and an Out-
door Battle Arena with games like Tug of War, dodgeball (nothing like
the movie, though!) and other fun outdoor games kids will be sure to
love. There will be an illusionist, Ryan Dutcher, amazing the crowds
all around. There will be food, carnival games and great activities, so
you can take a piece of the day home with you! Whatever you do, don’t
miss the Spooky Haunted Monsters Walk, which will wander through
the woods and farm around the YMCA, offering kid-friendly scares
along the way!
Many happy guests from all ages Hudson Valley Ghostbusters along with propmaster, Felix
pose at last year’s 2021 Olivieri and photographer, Benjamin Eichert (r)
MyKingstonKids Halloween Fest at
the YMCA in Kingston. The highlight of this year’s show will be
a stage show featuring perennial kid’s
favorite DJ Frankie Bones – as a monster
himself, it seemed appropriate that he lead
the show of monsters showing everyone a
good spooky Halloween time!
Kingston’s own Ubaka Hill will host the
night’s events. If you haven’t yet seen this
musician, poet, artist, and all-around
inspiration, now is the time! Rondout
Savings Bank is this year’s presenting
Sponsor – be sure to thank them for being
so community-minded when you next
stop in.
Making all these memories takes a lot of people, and we are looking
for volunteers both before and during the Festival to help out – prop
makers, planners, guides and many other needs looking for a little help
– if you would like to be part of one of the best days of the year for our
Kingston Kids, you can sign up here at MyKingstonkids.com.
The day will be full of different vendors and local craftspeople showing
magical and maybe some monstrously fun things (if you’d like to be
one, sign up here at MyKingstonkids.com.
We’d like to thank the City of Kingston for donating their stage for
the day, Radio Kingston for taking care of all the sound, our gracious
MyKingstonKids Buddies for their year-long support including Ulster
Savings Bank, MHVFCU, Rupco, and RK and most of all - everyone
who comes to these wonderful days – lifelong memories are made for
all of us, too. **
