us to see past the day to day observations and be able to
delve into the why and how our pupils are learning. The
value we add to each pupil’s academic profile can now
be measured and used to reinforce successful teaching
techniques in class.

School should be a place in which all members thrive.
Our school environment nurtures and supports the
community. I particularly enjoy chatting to our pupils at
break times, perhaps while they are enjoying a snack or
drink. It is during these conversations that I am updat-
ed on the latest FIFA game or football score, I was also
unaware just how much there is to learn about Pokémon
cards! Through these seemingly insignificant interac-
tions, I can learn so much about our children’s develop-
ment.

The ease at which they can engage someone in conversa-
tion, the confidence they have in challenging an opinion
through well-chosen questioning and responses, these
are all examples of how we are preparing the next gen-
eration of ‘blue sky’ thinkers. I have been very proud
of our Model United Nations (MUN) teams who have
attended competitions armed with the skill of outstand-
ing articulate debate. Instilling this love of talking, ques-
tioning and reasoning will equip pupils with a toolkit for
the workplace.

It is so important that we are encouraging of curious
minds. Igniting a love of learning throughout the pri-
mary phase and into the teenage years, will allow our
young people to identify and create opportunities. The
many wonderful topic days, speaker visits and field trips
encourage subject richness to support the curriculum.
Our pupils will be entering a workplace of employment
filled with jobs we can only imagine. Human cybernet-
ics creator, 3D-printer chef or a blockchain locksmith are
jobs that could indeed become a reality!

So just what is it making our school unique? We are ded-
icated to academic achievement, we are a place where all
members thrive and we encourage curious minds. The
JPGS community therefore is the perfect environment to
provide everyone who engages with it with ‘an immense
sense of possibility.’ That is what makes us unique.

Deputy Head/

Head of Grammar

Mr Khalil Ahmed

“The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be ignited.” – Plutarch

It is with great pride that I take this opportunity to address you in our
annual yearbook; the Jeddonian. To all our pupils from Year 7 to Year 13,
I have been so impressed with your development, resilience, growth and
maturity over these last four years, during my time as Deputy Head and
Head of Grammar School. This period for me has been so rewarding to
observe your development as young learners developing the necessary
skills to move into IGCSE, A Level and onto University.

As I move onto my next post, I have had the most amazing experience at
JPGS. I can say that without doubt JPGS pupils are wonderfully hard-
working and determined to succeed. We have children who are full of
empathy, who care for one another and live our values every single day.
They make me extremely proud and I know they will all go on to do
great things in later life.
To our Year 12 and 13 pupils who are leaving to go on to higher edu-
cation, you embraced all that Jeddah Prep and Grammar had to offer,
discovered your passions, and positively impacted those around you.

The Class of 2023 has achieved success in many diverse areas. You con-
sistently demonstrated hard work and determination. However, though
there are many attributes you displayed every day, there are two qual-
ities that this year group has had to demonstrate that makes all of you
unique: adaptability and perseverance. These two qualities have been
tested this year and when times were hard over the last few years, you
adapted to meet the changes and persevered when it became challeng-
ing. Whether you excel in the classroom, the art studio, or the lab; or on
the field; you have been presented with challenges and disappointment.
However, instead of giving up or becoming complacent, you adapted
and persevered.

“The way of success is the way of continuous pursuit of knowledge.”―
Napoleon Hill, I am certain Napoleon Hill experienced disappointments
and challenges, however, like you, he was equipped with the tools of
adaptability and perseverance to overcome them to find success through
the pursuit of lifelong learning and knowledge .

It is now your time to impact the world and solve future challenges that
we face as a society. I look forward to your continued success.

Head of Prep

Mr Raymond Garnett

As our academic year has drawn to a close we have much to celebrate
and many happy memories. The entire JPGS staff have worked closely
to ensure that we continue to meet the high expectations we set our-
selves as a community British school.
Most importantly our pupils have enjoyed another fabulous year. They
have excelled in so many fields and it is impossible to list them all.
We acknowledge the achievements of all pupils and are proud of their
bravery to overcome daily learning challenges, while engaging in their
academic lessons, sport, music and arts.
As you peruse through the Jeddonian reflecting on our pupil’s accom-
plishments and highlights, we take pride in the bravery and confidence
that the pupils have developed in order to remain determined and moti-
vated to make the best of their learning experience.
We are very grateful for the wonderful support we have received
from the parents during this academic year and we are all thrilled that
the year has been so successful. Thank you for trusting us to provide
teaching and learning to your child. It has indeed been an honour and
privilege. As teachers we are delighted at the progress our pupils have
made and are assured that they move onto the next year group as more
knowledgeable and independent learners. We have felt your constant
and consistent commitment behind the scenes.
We wish all a wonderful summer holiday and look forward to welcom-
ing you back for the 2023-24 academic year.

PREP SCHOOL

Assistant Head of Prep

Mrs Saira Ali

As the school year draws to a close, I find myself sitting, pen in hand,
contemplating the journey I have had the privilege of undertaking. This
year holds a special place in my heart as it marks the end of my time
at JPGS, after a decade of dedicated service. As I reflect on the past ten
years, countless memories flood my mind, but it is the growth and mat-
uration of our incredible pupils that truly warms my heart.

One area of particular pride for me is the enthusiasm our pupils have
developed for Mathematics. Throughout my years here, I have champi-
oned the CPA (Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract) approach to teaching, and
it fills me with joy to witness the love for numbers that has flourished
within our classrooms. From the early stages of manipulating tangible
objects to represent mathematical concepts to the later stages of tackling
complex problems independently, their passion for this subject has been
nothing short of inspiring.

But it is not just about numbers and formulas; it is about the skills and
values they have acquired along the way. They have learned to think
critically, to approach challenges with a growth mindset, and to collabo-
rate effectively with their peers. These skills will serve them well beyond
the walls of our school, shaping them into lifelong learners and problem
solvers.
In addition to the incredible academic and personal growth, I would
be remiss not to mention the extraordinary experience of introducing
and overseeing the Junior Dukes programme this year. It has been a
privilege to witness our pupils embrace these challenging tasks and take
their learning beyond the confines of the school. The dedication and
enthusiasm they have shown in these extracurricular pursuits have been
truly remarkable, and I am immensely proud to have been a part of their
journey in expanding their horizons and reaching for the stars.
As I say farewell to this extraordinary community, I am filled with a mix
of sentimentality and pride. It has been an absolute privilege to be a part
of your lives, to witness your growth, and to contribute to this school. I
am grateful for the trust and support that you have bestowed upon me,
and I am confident that the future holds great things for each and every
one of you.

Head of Early Years

Mrs Nargas Gulzar

Laying the foundations…
The academic year 2022-23 has been like a breath of fresh air. The return
to normality has brought additional zeal and energy from teachers,
parents, and children alike. It has been a pleasure to see our youngest
learners be so fully engaged in a broad range of fun, interactive top-
ic-based learning activities.

The EYFS is all about laying the foundations for a child’s learning
journey and we as a staff team have enjoyed every minute we have
spent enabling our children to learn, laugh and love. It has been an
action-packed year with our termly academic visits to places like Piatto,
Andalusia Clinic, and horse-riding at Trio Ranch. Children and parents
(and staff!) have looked forward to the weekly dress-up days and end-
of-topic events across the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Thank you to the parents for trusting us to provide teaching and learn-
ing to your child this year. It has indeed been an honour and privilege.
I remain astounded by how much we have achieved together due to the
strong relationships between the staff, parents, and our youngest learn-
ers in the EYFS. A big thank you to all for your support, partnership,
friendship, and encouragement throughout the course of the year. I feel
privileged and proud to work alongside some very special and talented
individuals (young people, parents, and staff). Your constant support
and feedback has allowed us to constantly improve and maintain our
excellent standards throughout the year.

Good luck to all our Reception children as they move to the Prep School,
and our best wishes to our youngest learners in the Nursery who will
be entering their final phase of the Foundation Stage in Reception. I am
delighted at the progress our little ones have made and are assured that
they leave Nursery/Reception as more knowledgeable and independent
learners.

Happy holidays!

Shining stars are what you are you’ve grown to be so bright.
After all we’ve learned this year, may wisdom fill your heart.
During Phonics sessions, we learned new sounds, how to blend
and read. We applied this knowledge to our writing which I say
is fantastic indeed!

We have enjoyed listening to many stories and learned to
make story maps for our class stories- ‘Ravi’s Roar’, ‘Jasper’s
Beanstalk’, ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and now we are super story
tellers!
We learned about wild, farm and sea animals and made lovely
collages. Best of all, we had such fun going on trips to Piatto,
Andalusia Clinic, The Farm and The Aquarium. It was a great
year in Reception B and we will always cherish these moments.

Year 1B has had a wonderful year, packed with fun activ-
ities and learning.

One of our highlights was our trip to Valley Farm, where
we enjoyed feeding the horses! Another was our Pirate
party, at the end of out ‘Talk for Writing Unit’ during the
Autumn term.

We really enjoyed our Book Week story, ‘The Barnabus
Project’. We painted lots of imperfect pets of our own
and dressed up as them for our parade. We also had fun
planning our class assembly, ‘Superheroes’, and gave an
amazing performance for our families.

Now, we are looking forward to starting Year 2 after the
summer holiday!

Anti-Bullying Week

We marked international Anti-Bullying Monday was official Odd-Sock Day and
Week, and the students of JPGS - from the children happily gathered together
early years right up to our seniors - have with a spare sock to make a sock puppet.
participated in many activities to increase
awareness of bullying and to investigate
how it can be stamped out forever.

The week has been particularly busy for
the Prep children who hold positions of
responsibility (particularly our Wellbeing
Ambassadors), as they have stepped up
to help organise the myriad of activities
the prep school children have enjoyed.
Tuesday had all the Prep school athletes
gather together to compete in team races
on the football field. The younger chil-
dren competed in a mini obstacle course
and amazed us with their skills.

Wednesday brought us all to the library
where friends gathered together to read
and share stories.
Thursday brought another opportunity
for arts and crafts as prep gathered once
again to create some wonderful pictures
to be shared with friends and family
Sunday saw the children coming together alike.
to make friendship bracelets.
There can be no doubt that, along with
the anti-bullying message, new friend-
ships have been made this week and
existing friendships have been strength-
ened. All-in-all, it has been a wonderful
week of wellbeing and a fantastic time
was had by all.

This academic year has been a remarkable journey for our KS1 pupils,
who have developed and flourished in countless ways. It has been
heartening to see their growth, both academically and personally, as
they navigated through their learning experiences. From the first day of
school to the last, our pupils have demonstrated a deep commitment to
learning, an eagerness to explore new ideas, and a willingness to sup-
port one another. It has been a joy to witness their progress and growth,
and staff in KS1 are incredibly proud of all that they have accomplished.
Our curriculum has been designed to inspire and engage our pupils, and
it has been a joy to see them thrive and grow in their knowledge and
skills.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents for their
unwavering support in helping their children throughout their learning
journey. We know it takes a lot of effort and commitment to balance
work and home life, and we are grateful for your cooperation in helping
us provide the best possible education to your children.

As we approach the end of the academic year, I look forward to cele-
brating the achievements of our pupils. I am confident that they will
continue to excel in all their future endeavours, and I wish them all the
best as they progress to the next phase in their learning.

I have served the JPGS community for the past eight years and have
many fond memories that I will always cherish. The children and fami-
lies at Jeddah Prep and Grammar School are one of a kind and I would
like to take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful families I have
met during my tenure.

Thank you once again for your continued support.

It has been a wonderful academic year, and I’m so proud of all
the learning experiences you have had this year! During Term
1, we started our learning journey to find out about Castles,
Knights and Dragons. We visited the Planetarium and learnt all
about the planets in our solar system.

We had some enriching learning experiences in Term 2. We
loved Book Week and read lots of fun and exciting stories to-
gether. The mothers of Year 2 also came along and read to us
to promote ‘Reading for Pleasure’.
It has been an exciting year, we have laughed, learnt, lived and
loved! I am so proud of how you have progressed and devel-
oped this year and I’m sure you’ll continue to impress your
teacher next year. I wish you all the best in Year 3.

costumes at the Book Week Parade, winning the best board
challenge on our class novel: Pests, a lavish Viking Day feast,
and celebrating the King’s Coronation in custom made crowns
and jewels.

Each and every one of you can accomplish anything you set
your mind to! I am so proud of your countless achievements.
Remember mistakes are part and parcel of learning, they are
learning opportunities. Continue to preserve and tackle them
with a growth mindset.

“Education is not the learning of many facts but the
training of the mind to think” – Albert Einstein

Lower Key Stage 2 Coordinator

Ms Debbie Johnson

It has been an absolute pleasure to lead and motivate Year 3 and 4 this
academic year.

Accordingly, we have promoted a love of reading and ensure every
pupil shows a love of words. We expect that all pupils will have the con-
fidence to stop a lesson with a polite enquiry when an unfamiliar word
is used. We use the Talk for Writing framework to develop their English
skills. They read novels, linked to their topic, to enhance their reading
whilst also deepening their understanding of the underlying topics and
their wider knowledge of the world.
Our aim is for every pupil to enjoy and succeed in Maths. Through
White Rose Maths, pupils build upon prior learning. Our inclusive ap-
proach is based on the use of concrete objects, pictorial representations
and abstract methods, which help our pupils develop a secure, long-last-
ing and varied understanding of this subject. We work with pupils to
address misconceptions and aim for mastery learning with a focus on
problem solving and reasoning.
We take a hands-on and investigative approach to science, encourag-
ing our students to observe and ask questions. Our pupils are asked to
suggest ideas and make predictions, which can be tested. They learn
how to plan and carry out their own investigations from which they can
interpret information and draw conclusions.
Our young geographers and historians develop their knowledge, skills
and understanding of the world around them through meaningful and
investigative learning. Hooks are used to draw children into topics,
sparking their curiosity and their interest. The topics are then developed
into local excursions and guest visitors, which draw the learning to a
meaningful conclusion.

As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and
we do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We feel privileged
to be a part of the JPGS school family.

Upper Key Stage 2 Coordinator

Ms Jade Widocks

The children in Upper Key Stage Two have completed their first full
year of schooling since 2019, and what a year it has been. The children
were given the opportunity to take on positions of additional responsi-
bility within the school and they rose to the challenge. Our prefects have
been instrumental in helping support teachers during playtimes and
also helped during key events during the school year, such as parents’
evenings.
The Wellbeing Ambassadors did a phenomenal job supporting other
children’s mental health and wellbeing. They were instrumental in
organising and running two major events this year: anti-bullying week
and children’s mental health week. Both ran over an entire week with
fun games and activities to highlight the importance of these issues. It
was truly heartwarming to watch our older children care for and sup-
port the younger children and act like such wonderful role models.
The children in upper primary have also had the opportunity this year
to get in touch with their dramatic sides. They have acted in Sussical
and also wowed the whole school with their class assembles. Their hard
work and commitment shone through.

It is always sad to say goodbye to the Year 6s and this year will be no
different. However, the Year 6 team are confident of their success in
Grammar and we are looking forward to the Year 5s moving up to fill
their shoes.

As 4A have progressed through the year, I have been
amazed at how much they have grown into independent
young learners. They have reached for their goals, chal-
lenged themselves at every opportunity and built their
confidence and self-esteem. They have blossomed into
well-rounded, successful, life-long learners and leaders
ready to take on the challenges of the next stage of their
school career.

In addition to the academic side of school, 4A have
contributed to the wider JPGS community by engaging in
additional positions of responsibility. Some have acted as
student councillors and eco councillors. While others have
sung in the choir and delighted us with their acting skills
during assemblies and the school production. Well done,
4A for working as a team to build such an awesome and
amazing class.

It has been another unforgettable year in 4B. We have had
some wonderful and memorable learning experiences. We
began the year with the children learning about themselves
and each other. As they journeyed through the year, they have
taken part in a range of activities including creating a volcanic
eruption, designing and making earthquake proof buildings and
putting on a Roman puppet theatre performance for the Year
3 pupils. They have grown in confidence, and they displayed
wonderful acting skills during our assembly on the Romans.
The children have had the opportunity to extend their learning
beyond the classroom when they ventured out into the desert
for their first residential trip. They displayed fantastic risk-taking
skills and thoroughly enjoyed the activities. We have created
some wonderful memories together and I am so proud of them.
I wish the children all the best as they continue their journey
through school.

4c are a vibrant, happy class of eight and nine year olds
ready to learn each day.

They love maths lessons when they use their whiteboards
to test new skills, check their answers and complete the
independent tasks.

The children support each other when new concepts are
difficult and they love reading, listening and analysing
stories.

Year 5 Maths has been an incredible journey this year, full of
exciting challenges and mind-boggling topics! From the world of
numbers to geometry, multiplication and division, and fractions,
we’ve explored it all.
We started the year by diving into place value and discovering
the secrets of decimals, before tackling the fantastic world of
fractions. We learned how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
fractions, making sure we didn’t get mixed up along the way!

Our geometry lessons were out of this world! We explored
shapes, angles, and lines, and even built our own 3D models.
We also discovered the mysteries of symmetry and reflections,
which made us feel like we were looking in a mirror.

And of course, let’s not forget about multiplication and division!
We practiced our times tables until we were lightning-fast, and

learned all about division, making
sure we didn’t leave any remainders
behind! Overall, Year 5 Maths has
been a fun and challenging adventure,
full of excitement and discovery. We
can’t wait to see what Year 6 has in
store for us!
