DIRECTOR GENERAL’S NOTE 03

DR. AKMA BINTI NGAH HAMID Director General of Veterinary Services, Malaysia First and foremost, I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, for their 15th anniversary and for the success of organizing the trailblazing Veterinary Business & Entrepreneurship Symposium (VBES’23). It is a known fact that entrepreneurship is the bedrock of a sustainable veterinary industry, with its importance extending beyond the trading of livestock commodities and products. From providing veterinary medical care to fulfilling diagnostic, pharmaceutical, and nutritional needs across various species, all major aspects of veterinary sciences thrive and function on an entrepreneurial basis. From within the vaults of academia, entrepreneurship allows translating research into commercial products, which often keeps disease diagnosis and management in line with recent advancements in veterinary medicine. Entrepreneurial knowledge and mind-set among veterinarians are therefore imperative for them to understand the fundamentals of the industry’s operation. Hence, the integration of entrepreneurial components into the veterinary curriculum in both veterinary schools in Malaysia has helped to fulfil this need at the very beginning of their professional education. Lest we forget, continuous entrepreneurship education is also as important for practising veterinarians and industrial players to update their knowledge and sharpen their acumens in this fast-paced era. This symposium is, therefore, a perfect academic platform for veterinary entrepreneurs to share their experiences and exchange ideas with other members of the industry, as well as provide networking opportunities to encourage further collaborations. I hope that this symposium will be made an annual event, with its participation expanded by welcoming international panels and attendees. Thank you, and I wish the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, continuous success for many more years to come. VBES’23 | 04

VICE CHANCELLOR’S NOTE 05

PROF. DATO’ DR. I appreciate academicians, non-academicians, students, industrial and corporate partners, and alumni for being together with UMK, especially the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. I welcome all the guests to UMK for celebrating the events. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is the fourth faculty established in Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) and has been launched starting from the 2009/2010 academic session. The establishment of this faculty is parallel to the ninth Malaysia plan and the first and second national agriculture policy (DPN2: 1992 – 2010), which focuses on livestock health and the development of the livestock industry to exploit agriculture in generating a healthy national economy. Owing to the Universiti Malaysia Kelantan motto “Entrepreneurship is Our Thrust”, Veterinary Business & Entrepreneurship Symposium (VBES’23) will be held to share the challenges and opportunities in veterinary business industries in Malaysia. This symposium will benefit the academicians, students and alumni as the symposium will give insight into research, professional services, and industry networking. It is a requirement that veterinary professionals continue to keepthemselves in line with rapid advancements in veterinary medicine that would provide better care and treatment outcomes for their patients. Veterinary Business & Entrepreneurship Symposium (VBES’23) will be extended to Gala Dinner. This lavish event is to honour the founder of FPV, former deans, industrial partners and alumni who have contributed to the faculty. Accolades will also be given to the staff and students for their achievements and the launch of industrial funds. We look forward to conspiring with each other.
